    Usually I do these on the bench, but I couldn't wait to get this installed so I went ahead and did it. The radio is a top notch SSB radio with all the features I'd eve want in a mobile install. I can't wait to take a day and see how the range is on AM and I really can't wait to see how the range is on SSB! I've got it set up with the best antenna location I can get. Big Tram 3500 right in the center of the roof. Low SWR so I should have a great time.

    Thanks for the showcase Erik.

    Received this radio and hooked it up to a Solarcon A-99, without the Ground Plane Set, as per your suggestion. Set at 37 & 1/2 feet. Getting lots of skip, not so much local. That sucker is way up there.🤪 Thanks for the videos. Oh, yeah, I am using it as a Base Station. See me raise the mast by myself at Ron’s Radios. I think I did okay for a 75 year Old Timer.

    I've been lookin at the president line of cb radios and came across this one a time or two and was fairly impressed! You've done a superb job at showing the features of president radios including this one, and this being am and ssb with a front firing speaker and all the key features you'd normally find in high priced mobile/base unit seems to be just the right size radio I've been lookin for. I use a cobra 29 that I bought new in 2010 in Cheyenne Wy, installed it and has been working flawlessly ever since, but it is rather big and the space it uses I now need for something else, so lookin for another radio with similar features but not nearly as big is a plus, the McKinley looks to be just what I've been lookin for. Thanks for your informal videos and your knowledge within the cb world is much appreciated!

    Great review! Thank you very much.
    I put the President Electronics "Maryland" RW CB antenna on my McKinley. That antenna is very easy to tune to an SWR of 1.0 using the two rings on the bottom load. It's nice to simply set the radio to SWR and listen to it as you tune the antenna until you get that solid tone. The antenna is a 58" long steel flexible whip and is the best antenna I've ever used. It's a bit expensive though. I had to replace a six-week old name brand fiberglass top-loaded antenna that I was having issues keeping in tune and then snapped at the base even though it was mounted on a spring from the same company. That automatic squelch control is a nice option to. No fumbling with the squelch while putting around in your vehicle. It would be great if that function would work on SSB too.

    Hearing that skip rolling in on SSB, where we can hear them, but they cannot hear us, brought back happy memories. I'm about to build a small house this Summer, in Poland, which l will move into next Spring. I have held onto my Nato 2000, for almost 40 yrs.
    Would love to set it all up again, with a serious beam antenna , and heavy burner , as l will have no neighbours for the very first time. Back in the day l ran it off a Sigma IV omnidirectional, in the UK, and had to wait until 1am to use it....Just in time for all that USA skip.

    Love your videos! I remember back in 1968, I had a Knight Kit C540 23 channel tuneable receive and crystal transmit CB radio. The microphone was hardwired. So I soup it up. I replaced the hardwired mic with a 4 pin mic connector and added a Tuner Plus 2 desk mic. Great audio! If I can make a suggestion, could you do a shootout video comparing the President Mc Kinley CB vs. the Uniden Bearcat 980 using the same antenna. That way your viewers can see the advantage of why the President is higher prices.
    Greetings from the Sandhills of North Carolina.

    Great video. So I can actually have 5 channels to scan? I like 19, 20, and 38. If I hear someone (scrambled) on 38 I will switch to LSB. My preferred channels make 3 + the 9, and 19 make a total of 5. That's what I'm seeing on my radio. I hear people speaking Spanish on channel 9 similar to the Channel 6 Super Bowl. Is there anyway to do away with channel 9 and replace it with something else. Or, is there a way to just scan my preferred channels of 19, 20, and 38?

    Great clean install Eric. Impressive job!! Looks good. Sounds good. Luv the tone option. Now my question from 1 cheap farmer to another is if you take the ssb option out of the equation is this radio really worth the 2-3x the price of a Cobra 18?? My needs are really scan and weather channels. Looking forward to the range test.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  5 лет назад

      I'd say that if you don't need the SSB you can skip it. The 18 is available used and that helps with the cost as well. These Radios are REALLY nice, but they are feature packed and that is why they cost more than a AM only radio.

My first cb I set up little over 10 years ago I remember it was skipping and was picking up people in Texas, Tennessee and I think someone said they were from Montana... Anyway, I lost interest because every time it sounded like the same black dude using the same lingo repeating the same things. Plus no one in my area at the time use cb. Now, I got a modded jeep and I am putting this President in there with a 4' Firestick so hopefully this time around things are better.

    Yah... mostly who I hear on the radio these days are black people talking about BS stuff I could care less about. Total turn-off for me. Very rare do I ever hear any intelligent conversation going on any more these days. If I didn't use channel 19 for my trucking business, I wouldn't even own a CB any longer. But even on 19, a lot of bitchin' about fellow drivers and 4-wheeler's. Again , rare to ever hear decent conversation. Some truckers now call it the bitch box. Only good to have it on for reports of traffic jams and road mis-haps. But that's about it.
