- Hi all
Using SSB can be a little confusing, so thought I would post a video on some items that will help you if you are just starting out. Get these three items and have a good listen around the bands, follow stations around and learn their division numbers it will help you a lot in the long run.
Hope this is of help, any questions please ask.
73's!
Very informative. That Royce is a beauty. Not seen one of those before
No its a fairly rare radio, its from late 70’s. I have just modded it and added the Lo’s & Hi’s as well as the UK40 and a switchable 5 &10 kc shift, next job on my long list is to add FM and open the clarifier on tx to allow me to move this to get the UK fm on frequency.
Very nice radio your very lucky to own this radio.
Thank you, yes its unusual with the three meters and it was very cheap to buy at only £15, it wasn;t working but it didn;t take much to fix it.
A remote frequency counter is a handy extra
yes it is, although you have to be careful which one you buy as they don't all cater for the SSB offsets and some only show the correc t AM frequency. My newer superstar 6900N has a frequency display built in which is ok, but the tables work and can fit (A5) size up omn the sun visor in the car when mobile ok. Sadly I do know some of the frequencies off by heart, shows I have been SSB'ing too long!
Great video.
Just got a sideband rig.
Many thnaks, and welcome to the world of SSB you won't regeret it! Any questioons at all please ask and if i can answer I will be happy to help. Hopefully catch you on the air one day when the skips running!
I pick up my first ssb radio this afternoon. I can hardly wait! It's just a galaxy 959 thats turned up to 32 watts AM and not sure what ssb power is. But hopefully it's enough to get heard. I can't afford to run amps and hundreds of watts on AM so I hope ssb is better for me
Hi Johnny Good news and congrats on the radio, 32 watts should be good enough to be heard I have got to Italy on that before from the UK. Are you running it mobile or from your home. I have posted several ssb videos so have a look they may help.
@@britishcbradio1055 thank you very much, sir 👍. I got my galaxy 959 yesterday and put it into my pickup truck with a Wilson mag mount on top. My first transmit on 38lsb I made contact with Ontario Canada from Kentucky USA. I was shocked! I talked all over the country like it was easy lol. I could never do that on AM with barefoot radio Mobil. I'm doing 32w peak and on ssb it does the job . So I'm hooked ! 😎👍
@@JohnnyRebKy Brilliant contact to canada! The skip is due to be at its best agiain in 2026 so you got it just at the right time as in the lead up to then it can only get better! The wilson is supposed to be a very good antenna and looks like you have just prved it, good choice on the equipment!
Hi what antenna are you using on this video? 26-CT -3654.Jerry
On this one it was only a DV27, a mobile antenna from memory I believe.
Sounds like Max mountain world calling from 14 division in France.
Hi Stuart, have you spoken with this station. A lot of the 14 divisions are very strong stations into my location from the southern part of france. 73’s.
@@britishcbradio1055 No I haven't spoken to Max. He has a RUclips channel called max mountain world. He is Scottish but lives in France and does a lot of dx videos and driving his Jaguar in the heavy snow 😁
@@StewartL ah ok cheers Stewart, i will see if i can catch him at some point.
