Make sense. Tiptoeing around and not speaking your mind will lead to lots of suffering and failure in the real world. But it's hard so people tend to cope by lying to themself that it is nice and ok. And honestly if one can not be truthful to another then it will fail for sure.
She (carol's mom) said "its a draw", so she implies that its both his and her fault why she is kinda raised this way. Him for seeing carol just a little sister, her bcs she is kinda the cause carol keep smiling
This was the moment on the Manga where i actually started to like Carol at this point it was more than clear that she is not just a goofy comic relief character

I'm also very happy with her development at the end of the season, as she fully evolved past being the puppet master bitch and genuinely wanted to just be a good friend.

It's really good, from start to the clean ending (unlike others like rent a sxxx, Uzaki and Nagatoro) in a single season. The only bad thing is there isn't more. (especially for Carol and Misuzu).

There a couple of interesting things here one is we dont see Carols face whom were used to seeing with a smile on it all the time, even after misuzu says what she does we only see her from behind and we see tomo Jun and misuzus reactions of utter shock. The Closest we get to seeing something wrong is when Carol is in the Car. We see shes not smiling we cant see much else but SHE IS NOT smiling then we get the full effect when misaki comes to see her and it hits us harder because were seeing her raw and pained and broken
Nah you're good. In the plot, carol smiles through the pain. Her insecurities often get masked often she looked annoying. She look pretty in vulnerable state because its her emotions showing up. Not all people show their vulnerable state to anyone but if someone gave it to you. Specially people who despise "negative" emotion Beyond the snot and goo they'll look glowing.
I've said it once....I'll say it again. Carol is the real star of this show. If not for her, I would have dropped it after episode 3, because the other characters are kinda flat.

Misuzu’s methods here were entirely out of jealousy; she just uses that excuse to justify manipulating people to appear better than them. That’s why she’s so shaken up when she realizes she made Carol so mad. She knows that she did something stupid and that it could cost her Carol’s companionship, but she insists it was to help them just like Jun and Tomo to keep a place in their lives.
