Explore the Edit: Foggy Journey

  • If you've ever wondered how I edit my photos of pets, but don't want to sit through a long tutorial because you're already familiar with Lightroom and Photoshop, Explore the Edit might be the perfect solution. Explore the Edit is one of our regular features over in my Learning Journey membership, and I wanted to share with you what it's all about!
Because the Learning Journey Pro membership now includes SO many full editing tutorials (I think 7 to begin with, and two new tutorials open up every month you're a member, up to 20+ tutorials by the end of the year!) I didn't want to keep making more and more 1-2 hour tutorials!
But, my members were always asking how I edited this photo or that photo, and I didn't want to just say: "Sorry, follow one of the other tutorials!"
So, I created Explore the Edit - short 'n sweet, 20 minute videos, where I dissect my editing process for some of my most popular photos. All the way from RAW file, through my Lightroom edits, to all the layers I used in Photoshop & how they affect the photo. From using curves layers, colour-grading, dodge and burn and so much more.
This video is just ONE of a library of ever-growing Explore the Edit videos (as well as the HUGE library of lessons, behind the scenes, editing toolboxes, critiques, hot-seats, challenges and more) in the Learning Journey membership! You can check it out here: inspawrationph... - doors open May 1st!

This was super helpful. I'm not going to have a photo exactly like yours, so understanding the thought process behind the edit, rather than the step-by-step of the edit itself was great. Thank you!

I love this type of video... this is exactly what I look for when I'm trying to edit... the "why" you make certain adjustments not just the this is what I'm doing. Thank you!

Yay! So glad you liked it! I looooooove explaining the WHY of my edits - otherwise how can you take that knowledge into your own editing process? Though I know the general advice is to not share the "why" on social media (or maybe only the why and not the how... hmm) but that never makes sense to me. How can I do one without the other? 😅 Obviously my members get a lot more detail & explanations and other Explore the Edit videos but I thought it'd be fun to share one here!

I have to admire your approach of thinking about why people are asking for more of what it seems like they already have available and what else you might be able to offer to satisfy what they're actually looking for. Well done and thanks for the video!

I can't even help myself! After teaching for 5 years in a primary school, I learned to listen to what my students were saying and what that meant about my teaching and the knowledge they needed or were lacking... and then implement that into my lessons! So it makes sense that I'm still doing that... just with adults 😂 So happy you liked the video and the idea!

I have just discovered your channel and let me tell you I am so excited to watch all of your episodes ! Your photos are amazing! I have more of a cinematography background but would like to get back into photography. My only question is do you think I can get anywhere near as sharp of images with my old crop sensor? Canon t3i? I do at least have a sigma art 18 -35 f 1.8 lens that I love . Once again thank you for all the amazing content. At least in my opinion what you have done is more than enough. I only wish I lived closer and was able to hire you.

Thank you! So glad you like it! I'm really enjoying making them for the Learning Journey for members who already know my tools and process but want to know how an edit came together!
