  • Most 17-year-olds are not 7'2". Zach Brown is, and that's one of the reasons he's a top 25 prep basketball prospect in the class of 2017 who recently committed to Uconn.
Most 17-year-olds don't grow up in Overtown, one of the roughest neighborhoods in Miami, before being adopted by a wealthy teammate's father, moving to Coconut Grove and converting to Judaism. Zach Brown has, and it's all part of a fascinating journey to the NBA that's just getting started.
He takes us through all the ups and downs and introduces us to his two families in this VICE Sports Special.

So his adoptive father may have a big heart to help him out, but its obvious to me that he's investing on Zach to cash in on his NBA career. He talks about all the endorsements in the video with a huge grin, that's probably the most excited he sounded/acted in the entire video. Also, he took his son to the inner city to recruit top talent in Miami for his AAU team. This is an obvious ploy to gather top talent and keep them close to the vest until they make it big. I commend him for taking Zach in and helping him, but I still think he's shady.

My dad is a high school football coach and he coached at a place called Santa Fe which is in Alachua Florida. Andrew lived in a home with no electricity or air conditioning. So, we raised him. We took him in, drove him to school, gave him food and air conditioning and his own room. We gave him a phone, extra clothes and shoes and even his own XBox. He went on to go to Fork Union Prep School to play football. He's a 6'3 280 pound DT. After a year, he signed with Savannah State and is playing football. He's not even a senior in high school...how many 7 footers in the NBA today were remotely coordinated, let alone 'athletic' halfway through high school? Have you seen footage of Hibbert in high school? It's honestly just about the same. The best college scouts in the world have him as the best center because there is the expectation that you can easily develop someone who is that big. I can't think of any 7 footers that actually went to a competitive basketball high school that failed to do well in college...and the only one's that really failed to make it in the NBA were either injury prone or came from another country which meant the scouts got a fraction of the insight they get when looking at college players (cough Darko cough). Honestly, he could be much less athletic than he is now and would still succeed in the NCAA. There are ranked teams that have their tallest player at 6'8"-6'9"...it's not surprising he had offers from most top tier schools.

After, his first mistake he should've stopped. He had the opportunity to play in college, and was a shoe in for the NBA. We never know what this young man was dealing with in his life to make bad decisions. The greatest he had, and what should've happen. Where he should be at right now playing pro basketball. Maybe, he couldn't deal with the attention. Did he lacking self confidence. His game on the court proved that he was skilled. He had the size, agility, and quickness for a big man.
