I lived in Cameroon for 2 years and I can tell these guys are natural trash talkers. It’s in their culture to talk trash but in a friendly way I must say. I’m not surprised Joel Embiid adapted to NBA trash talk so quickly...
Humble, humility, tough, aggressive are qualities everyone should possess and use them accordingly and selectively. What I see today with all people of African decent is aggressiveness towards each other with hate and animosity. A lot different from my growing up in Chicago. Everywhere it this hate and I'm more shocked when someone extend themselves in a humble, friendly way. Unfortunately, most of you take this as being a pussy, including women.
Must be really satisfying for Luc to see Joel, a product from his camp, a fellow Cameroonian having that much success in the NBA. Blessings on blessings guys.
Hey ! I am the one in purple jersey and dark blue shorts doing the layup at 03:09. I recall that Sunday when I was recorded for this documentary. I like it so muuuchh !!!
My freshman year roommate was from Yaoundé Cameroon, I dated a girl from Yaoundé, and now my favorite player on my favorite team is from Yaoundé. LEGGO
This is why I like foreign players. They don’t care about being in la or going to big cities. They play because they love the game they don’t care what city. Too many American players see an opportunity to go to a nice sunny place and jump on it instead of being loyal or building a contender
It's not always that simple though. You have guys that attempt to settle in a spot and be loyal like Isaiah Thomas, Kemba Walker, Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Then for various reasons management can't build a contending team, or they're kinda stuck trying to attract players because of the city they're in. Then you have dudes like Joel who landed in a fortunate situation in Philly or Siakim. My point is players can have all the loyalty in the world but management gets the final say.
I did an ancestry test last year and it connected me to Cameroon and the Ewondo/Yaounde people. So seeing this brought joy to me. I had always planned to visit Yaounde but to see this makes me a fan of these ancestrial countrymen.
Jo's mother and father are just _incredibly_ strong people. Wow. I feel so, so blessed to get to watch Jo play for my Sixers, and as such I'm grateful to Luc Mbah a Moute, his foundation and those running it, Jo's family, the coaches that gave Jo his shot, and _Jo himself_ for taking it with everything he had to give. Philadelphia loves this man, but _every_ NBA fan should love him, even when he's dominating your team on the court. The guy transcends the sport in a way nobody else ever has -- not to say he'll ever be as universally known as Michael Jordan, but it's true -- he absolutely transcends basketball in a _unique_ way, and if you're a basketball fan, you're truly privileged to get to watch this man play this game. It's unequivocally beautiful.
His mother's voice is so pleasing. Like, she could just talk and you'd fall asleep blissfully. I always knew growing up in the 80's after watching players like the Dream and Dikembe that African players would one day really vie for basketball dominance against African-Americans. They have the genes, they just don't have the resources and experience. But things are changing. There are SO many stars of African ancestry in the NBA from Oladipo, Bam Adebayo, Joel Embiid, Giannis, Biyombo, Luol Deng, Ibaka, Al-Farouq Aminu, Siakam, Evan Fournier, Ian Mahinimi,etc...
captain clutch They are athletically gifted in their own way. If we are talking about long distance running for example then they are the best in the world. But when it comes to more explosive sports, west africans dominate.
No disrespect to Embiid or anybody but nobody will ever match Eto’o from Cameroon. The best striker of the century and the top 2 African player of all time, alongside Eusebio. Eto’o, Milla, Geremi, N’Kono, Abega and Lauren are the biggest Cameroonian legends in sports.
Doubt it. You’ll see incredible players that’ll set the world on fire like Eto’o, Drogba, Essien, Abedi Pele did in soccer, but they lack the infrastructure to produce quality average players. You have to be really, really good to make it out and to the US to begin with.
Joel is my favorite player, I watched him play his first game in 2016 against the thunder and I said this guy is great not to mention I've been a sixers fan since 1990 but alot of people hate on Joel he's the best big in the game, hopefully he gets a new coach next season to further show what he's made of

I don’t understand how someone could be so cold as to make fun of a guy, living without his parents who are all the way in Africa, not knowing the language joining a huge high school trying to pursue his dream when he’s 16. Like honestly Americans need to grow up and learn that people are going to be a different race aside from you and also realize moving from somewhere whether it’s a different state or continent and they need to accept that because there is nothing anyone can do to stop that from happening 🤷♀️
