Barney Fife was the funniest and most lovable character ever on television. And, I can watch a show and start laughing knowing what is coming up. Thank god for this show.
I love the last little bit of the episode, where Barney's cleaning the cell. Little Clint Howard has just entered the office, and Barney asks him to shut the door. Clint steps over and shuts the cell door, locking Barney in. Barney is exasperated, and wordlessly, little Clint offers him his peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Andy advises him that that's not allowed.
"Yeah and we dont even know what that means." Nobody ever knew what Barney meant. That's what makes every thing Don Knotts did a master class in comedy. "It definitely is no fun when that iron door clangs shut." Oh, yes it is. Fun to watch that is. The Three Stooges, Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy combined never found so much anguish. To say they dont make shows like this anymore is the understatement of the century.
That kid wanting to know how come you can't have peanut butter in prison... LOL!! I know why, some inmates in the Walker County, Alabama jail used peanut butter yesterday afternoon to change the numbers on a cell door. When they called to "unlock cell so-n-so," the new guy in the control room looked out, saw the number and opened the door. Unfortunately, the prisoners had changed the number to the number of the door leading out. 12 inmates escaped. Yes, it's true. So THAT is the reason you can't have peanut butter in jail! LMAO!!
Andy must be the best friend a man could have. Barney's neurotic behaviour would drive most people away yet his buddy Andy, sticks by him saving his incompetent little ass and covering for him over and over again. What a mate !
Barney is what ppl want. He won 5 Emmys in a row until he couldn't take it emmy more. it was getting emmmybarrassing. Truly. No flatfooded american with 10 fingers and at least 9 toes could win a fart contest except him. Ugly to the max is boxoffice gold. He'd brag about it if he could. You can fix dumb, you can't fix pretty.

The Andy Griffith show is just classic TV at its very best!
They cut the clip off too quickly. He locked himself in the jail cell and Andy had to usher the kids out before Barney was thoroughly embarrassed.
