  • Using grain filler to Repair scratches in varnish.
    Dan’s Story
I started my furniture restoration business thinking I would be a small shop and hoped to keep the lights on. We focused on a quality product and accepting the challenges that each piece had. My son Arthur came to help with the work and added skills and talented we needed.
It will never leave my shop until it is good enough to brag about(and I like to brag).
Every time we repair something it keeps it out of the landfill and keeps another tree from being cut down to replace it.
The more we share our knowledge the more times this happens.
We will try and post weekly depending on the work we have.
If you can subscribe, like, comment, share(any or all) you will help us with this project.

I’m going to be honest, I never envisioned my business developing into where we are today.
We have 2 shops, we have worked for museums, rock stars, actors, athletes and were asked to consult on the Queen Mary.
I have my customers to thank for this success and the way we show our appreciation is by giving you back the best we have in us.
I can’t remember my customer’s name or face but when I ask them about the piece I restored for them I can recall every detail about the project.
We have sifted though personnel looking for the people that are natural craftsmen, artisans or just to stubborn to give up until they Get it Right!
This has created a team and attitude that has tremendous pride in the work they do.
Thanks for your time and attention

Great tip. Thanks for sharing. I have learned several techniques watching your videos. I imagine it is a lot of work
to film and edit these clips. I hope you will continue making and submitting them. Thanks!

VERY EXCITED about finding this video! I am working on a desk that has several marks I'm hoping to minimize (on veneer) so I was just given this product to try exactly what you did. Crossing my fingers for good results!

I need this product for my knife handle making. Over 20years since I did any real wood work. Subbed and liked. Cheers from Australia 🙂👍👍👍

I know little about varnish. Other that it's supposed to protect wood. But does varnish itself not scratch? I have seen scratched varnish plenty of times, but I rarely see scratched wood without varnish?

Varnish is the clear coat that is used to seal the wood.
      It scratches.
If you scratch deep enough you will scratch through the varnish and scratch the wood.
Almost all furniture has some form of varnish or wax on it.
      Hope this helps.

Looks tip top! A couple of questions. 1) Will this method work on a 6 panel door that has dog scratches? 2) If so, is there a ratio you use to thin the Crystal-Lac with water and the tint? 3) What grit sandpaper do you recommend?

If it's timber? It will work.if you want a mirror finished look? I use 400 grit until I hit 3000 grit. Then buff.

Yes must be top coated with varnish then sanded and buffed out.

Splendidly to see Woodprix have new plans which helped me save some money and energy for this construction.
