  • The DEW system, the Distant early Warning Line was a system of radar stations in the northern Arctic region of Canada. They are being dismantled by the government but the extreme remote nature of these once secret facilities makes them hard to supply. Over 400,000 litres of diesel fuel need delivering to these radar stations and in perilous conditions.

When a company hires someone, gives them a promise and then doesn't fulfill the agreement the employee deserves to know straight up why the agreement was broken. If no explanation comes the employee should leave because it will never get better. Bad call for your company Joe.

I used to work for a small general aviation outfit back in the 90's before moving on to another career. We were a full service facility for mostly Lears, Falcons, Hawkers and Gulfstreams. Seeing the politics and drama in this episode brought back bad memories which I have not thought of in decades. For years I missed being an aircraft mechanic but after this episode I have become grounded again. Thanks Buffalo Joe!

It's the people that work for you that makes it go, Joe. It's the people. And that comes before the planes. I used to have a lot of respect for the way you made it work. Not anymore.

Is there a part II for this video? Back in the '70's I had a job flying as a co-pilot in a C-47 and this really hit home with the segment of Jeremy's first flight experience. When I was just a little older than him I went through a similar situation after getting checked out in a DC-3 and my first flight as a co-pilot in the C-47. Very nerve racking, but got though it just fine. What an exhilarating sense of accomplishment when it was over!

When I was in South Korea, I had the pleasure of helping RedBall deliver diesel fuel to our radar(?) site at Palgansan. We used 2 1/2 ton trucks up there and back. We all carried about 21-24 55 gallon drums in each truck, with I believe 4-5 trucks in each trip. What an adventure, but, very scary on the very narrow roads up there. Not sure if rock top is still there, if so, hi up there!

If the near CFIT incident they had in the Electra was real and not staged..... There is nothing worse than hearing the GPWS call out Terrain Terrain pull UP when in IMC ... @@JamRock_Jr. Like I said I'm retired but enjoyed a long and successful career. "Surviving" was the easy part. I did that in addition to constantly advancing. Perhaps what you're referring to as "not surviving," I think of as 'refusing to tolerate.' My working years were spent with deadlines, pressure and competition but professional respect was always shown by my superiors and earned by those under me. Joe's taking his own frustrations out on competent employees I view as unacceptable. I think it kills morality in a corporation, promotes lawsuits from the employee base, and creates hostility in the workplace that leads to people not achieving their potential.

Joe's an azzhole of a boss, typical for small companies. The trouble with these managers is that they treat people like trash because they know they can always find someone to replace whoever leaves. It's clear Juan paid his dues and deserved to go instead, rather than the new guy, but Joe doesn't care about fairness or he has a bad memory or a grudge against Juan. While we all would love to leave bad companies, it's better to have a plan B in place first. They have some nice employees in this company but it's some people in mgmt that ruin it like Joe.

First of all you treat your employees with respect because they are the ones that make you who you are they make sure that your stuff arrives and departs on time and I'm sorry for someone to change an engine like that that's pretty impressive he had a damn good mechanic. To be a good owner or a good business supplier is to listen to your employees your employees will make you who you are or they will turn around and drop you right on your face think of it this way when an employee leaves an employer is because the employer was doing something wrong or the employee felt or knew that the employer had a problem. Is pretty obvious that this employer is a drunk and drinks quite heavily judging by his attitude at work. It is also no wonder that these like guys lost their contract in the United States Forest service and now are no longer allowed to dump retardant here

GPS can get increased errors the closer to the magnetic poles that you are. We in the USA have had aircraft mistake one airfield for another airfield that is in line with the first airfield. Ebarrassing stuff like landing a C-17 or B747 into a short runway general aviation airport that is in line with the intended destination airfield.

Buffalo managed to stay afloat becused if people like Joe....he’s tough...many similar operators have long since went bankrupt. Imagine having 5 m.$ airplanes awaiting contracts....the wait isn’t free...there rent to pay (no not house tent, an aircraft hanger rent, do you know how much it cost to rent aircraft hangers?)....staff to pay....train new staff to replace old staff, insurance, etc. if a staff dings an aircraft....it’s about $180,000 for an Electra’s prop, $450,000 for a turbine engine....just because a staff screwed-up (of course, that staff could say sorry for the $340,000 damage he made). Joe’s under pressure more than any for his staff, who get monthly salary. It makes a $800 air ticket looks ridiculous.....should be more like $2,400 fir the same air ticket, considering what risks the airline owner goes through. No wonder alot of Joe’s competitors are now bankrupt.
