I bought my Front runner from you 4 yrs ago and love it. Have moved down to Moreton bay area. Great tutorial. I have a dicky back and when I am not using the Minn Kota I am going to try this method. Looks a lot easier for my back. Thanks.

Anchoring sucks without a anchor buoy I haven’t pulled an anchors from bottom in 20 years Don’t listen to people theorising watch the professionals who are pulling anchor all day every day 100. % use this method If you don’t tie off to back of boat wait and see what happens when you get hooked up and slow down
Thanks, great video. I just bought my new F115LB from your shop and about to run it in tomorrow. Might need to take you up on your offer for assistance some time for the anchor buoy set up and use! Cheers, T
I live in Florida and have been fishing and boating my entire life and I think your videos are great.Just bought a Yamaha 115 sho and can't believe what an excellent motor it is.Its like a rocket on my flats boat
You’re a stud. Works perfectly. I have a ski fish boat I use at the colorado river and I like to leave the buoy in the water To tell where my line is but can’t seem to do it right. Can you help with that?
Particularly important if the weather suddenly turns. The Anchor holds the stern down and a wave can come over and flood the boat.... however in good Conditions, it's rather convenient
I've seen a boat sink for that very issue. The motor failed in a strong current, the anchor was thrown over the stern and when caught in a mooring chain the transom dipped down and the sea came over the stern and the boat sank in seconds. Admittedly, it had a very shallow transom, but when he talked about an anchor on the stern, that incident from over 40 years ago came to mind. I think it can be done safely in the right conditions, boat and with someone who's watching the weather etc. It made me nervous the speed he was going with the recovery too, I thought what if the anchor is hooked in something and tries to stop you at 20 mph.
Fiveo waf his method may work in the right conditions, but not all conditions. He should have explained that so a new boater doesn’t get the impression this is how it’s done. The Niagara River has about a 13 knot current on a calm day. Try that there and you’ll be swimming before you can utter an oh shit.
It's definitely not a panacea for all types of water, conditions and boats, definitely not for a 13 knot current, that must be a challenge to anchoring and retrieving at any time.
No, because it is loose and floating on top of the water. You have to get the boat moving to make it sink and then it will put pressure on the anchor and lift it out of the water straight up and then follow the boat.
best instructional video by far, thanks. idiots on every site. they are the ones which capsize. Minn kotas are great until they dont automatically retract and the arm gets bent on the way home. i have a crook back & will use this all the time,
Hey you are so lively never seen anchoring done like this. Not sure if this is s joke or for real. Liked the video though and do not think I will use this technique, bit brutal for my taste and in the wrong conditions could go horribly wrong
I too found it most interesting, unfortunately most times when I anchor I'm in a narrow rock canyon and so have to break a lot of the "anchoring rules" to keep my line short enough to keep of the shoe and rocks when the boat swings around. I'm looking for some tips on using stern anchor as well as a bow anchor.
Sometimes too difficult, the cuddy cabs we offer all have large hatches which allows you to access the bow without too much difficulty, yet unfortunately there are many boat brands out there that have a small hatch...
I liked the enthusiasm a lot especially when I found out he actually knows what he's on about, I use this method ecept i tie my anchor line to my painter (my bow rope) and I like to use as little rope as possible so that when the current or the wind changes it doesn't take me to far away from where I was catching fish I use 15meters of 6mm chain on a 5meter glass boat it let's me Anchor in 50meters water with only 70mrts rope out plus chain plow anchor..never moves even with 15knot wind ect
at 1:39 you forgot the most obvious problem with anchoring, that is having a wanchor in the cockpit!, or the 'other' interpritation of the phrase, throwing it over the side, that is chain and all!!
Neat concept. Totally un-usable in a raft-up situation as you would hook everyone around you. But very cool if you're solo or as you say, in a 100m (328ft) of water; but you would have needed a 1K feet of line (as I don't call it rope) for that to make sense (as that's deep). Either way, thanks for the pro-tip.
The concept of the buoyancy of the float moving down the anchor line increasing the pull angle will still work in small areas of water under 20m In 5 m tighten up rope with float at back of boat and drive away Try it Lots of pros use 20 lt plastic drums you buy oil in
@@BrisbaneYamaha Oh, yes. I know. I call them anchor balls or retrievers. I just don't use them at 35 knots and punish them like it's a poor fish hooked in the wake. (Personally, I prefer the circle method to deal with the potential of an anchor hooked on the rocks.) But I totally enjoyed the video either way. So . . . TY!
You do sound like the WAIT THERE''S MORE!!!! guy....all that yelling and all....car salesman? YOU KNOW CHAIN IS EXPENSIVE!!!!! lol good video thanks. And to think....you sound like such a Aussie yobbo....
Using an anchor winch only works on larger boats and larger boats have other issues, like getting them out of the water at the end of the day. Even bigger boats can't leave the water so they need to be docked which brings other issues. Just learn to anchor safely and you won't need an anchor winch, although he can sell you one if you need it.
The point is the chain has to be heavy and long enough so the movement of the boat only lifts the chain and not the anchor That said in rocky reef eta I don’t use much or even any chain
But he’s not offshore, he’s using a reef anchor in the sand in 15’ of water with a 80’ scope, but the tutorial attempts to imply that this procedure will work on a sand bottom in 100’ of water, not with that anchor it won’t. I’m confused. In calmer bathtub water you can side anchor at any depth, but be very careful to not stern or side anchor in a fast current rougher conditions at any depth.

Well I’ve used an anchor float a thousand times and never had your issue that said if you haven’t been hooked your probably got a electric motor for an anchor
1. You're tying off your anchor to the side of your boat. Seriously??? The reason your boat has an anchor well and tie off point at the front of your boat is so when your boat drifts it will turn into the current and the water will go around your boat and it will not tip to the side, particularly in the chop. 2. You pull your anchor completely out of the water for multiple reasons other than safety. BEFORE MAKING WAY. You are making way with the anchor in the water potentially snagged on an unknown which you wouldnt know because it's "still in the water". 3. You are towing your anchor behind your boat, I don't even know where to start with how dangerous that is not only for the people on board your boat but other users of the water ways aswell. ie. boaters, pwc's, divers etc. 4. I would like to see anywhere in any boating safety guide that would allow such bad practice on the water ways. 5. When boating and using any water way there is duty of care to marine life and the other users of these water ways. do EVERYONE a favor and give up your hobby of boating before you do some serious damage. And no I am not an American although I don't see what that would have to do with anything as anyone with common sense and a skipper's ticket would know that you're insane. I strongly advise you remove this video before you cause some damage to someone, something or your business.
@@johnchapman8976 I thought exactly the same at one stage. Boat would be side on to the current. But on replaying vid he says that the rope is run through the bow sprit before tieing off loose rope to the side rail.

Bad advice. !!!!!!!! NEVER tie an anchor to the stern. NEVER !!!!!!! That being said, An anchor buoy can work great. But, Never tie the anchor to the stern?

First is that the boat he is using is ugly and use a plow anchor that one is not safe and that you are not supposed to anchor by Saturn cleat if the anchor snags your boat will get drenched with water and that boat is not supposed to go out in deep water I would not even take it in a lake

A great solution to a long chain is just a heavy iron or lead hunk on the chain about 5 ft from the anchor. The only reason for chain is weight.
Legit, the amount of time spent with that stupid buoy i could've just pulled it up myself.
You had me up until you went wide open throttle to dislodge the anchor. Lol
