@@andrewn.5117 Just completed 266 hours and still running extremely smoothly.. Of interest, Yamaha only gave us a 3 month guarantee. Fortunately, we have never had any issues but I am fairly sure that Yamaha USA are far more generous? Thank you for enquiring!
We have never once had a yamaha have a problem from not being run in properly My own land cruisers have used oil and been more issue than all the Yamahas we have sold I love yamaha just the best
my second boat. current one bought new. When boat shopping I felt the Suzuki was a better motor BUT, in the past on other things learned a lesson. That being said I went with the Yamaha because thats what virtually everyone else is using on the Southern Gulf Coast in USA. I figured I should get Yamaha because EVERY shop around here almost are certified techs on Yamaha so I could take the boat most anywhere to get serviced but concerned I'd not have many choices to where to take a Suzuki to get serviced
I got a question. I'm looking at a 2003 yamaha hpdi 250hp. The person had it rebuilt block, posting, rings so on and so forth. My only concern was the compression was 95 to 100 on all cylinders. It will need to do the break in prosses. Will the compression numbers get higher after word's. It sounded good running as he did start it up for me. It's only ran about 10 min since the rebuild.
Will applying full throttle momentarily harm the outboard, the dealer said they need to water test the boat at full throttle to test everything works as expected?
You don’t Don’t get too concerned about run in procedure and rev ranges We just never ever seen problems Just vary revs and keep under load so don’t baby a new outboards No trolling no letting idea for long times You will not have an issue because nobody ever does
Can you elaborate on the warm water coming out of the tell tale when you are in the idle position. I have a brand new Yamaha f90 and pees pretty warm in idle. When I bump it up a little bit it starts to cool down. Thank you for the video I appreciate it!
The water temperature is just an indication the motor is warm Like all combustion engines it’s important to worm the engine before high revving I have know friends with big bite motorcycles to wait what seems a life time before taking off I think it’s way less important with outboards because they only rev to 6000 not 12000 like some bikes and normally we don’t do performance engine work to make the outboard go faster unless your a racer I wouldn’t be concerned about warm water at idle that normal until thermostat opens F90 is a bullet proof motor and will last thousands of hours of absolute abuse so normal recreational use the motor will last you your life time of boating True
No you shouldn’t In short term better than running with no water Your local dealer is an idiot Go elsewhere I’ve had customers tell me they have run motor for years when flushing with freshwater wash More an indication of how good Yamahas are rather than a good idea It’s eazy just do what Yamaha says
Maybe need to see how much would indicate fuel issue Take to yamaha dealer and put on computer We’ve never even had a warranty on a f90 So can’t see why you’d have an issue
I wish you would do a video on 4 stroke outboards making oil. I have a 2013 Yamaha F70 that I purchased new. Broke it in just like the manual said. Never had a problem for the first three seasons. Then last year after winter I hooked the hose to it and started, let it run for about fifteen minutes. I turned off and when I pulled the dipstick the oil was all the way up the dipstick. I drained the oil into a bucket and the changed the filter and put new oil in it. The used oil smelled like gas was in it. This engine has about a 100hrs on it and it doesn't stay in the water. Found out from the mechanic at the dealer they had the same problem on their rental pontoon boats because people just put and never run them hard. Now I run it at higher RPM's for the first 15-30 minutes and it does seem to take care of it. This is not just a Yamaha issue but happens to many manufacturers. Any thoughts?
Love your work Aaron. I live in Mandurah W.A. and I believe my local dealer Mandurah Outboards is your nephew. I want to buy a yf 7000 which they sell the problem is hes a Mercury dealer and I want Yamaha. Not sure what to do yet.
hay guys like your boat review's but i would like to see a review on the Quintrex dart series with a Yamaha, and its price so that i could get a good entry boat for my son.
working on outboards is pretty easy, everything is right there and east to access. If you can work on cars in cramped conditions then you can work on outboards. The technician colour coding things yellow is just to line their pockets, servicing is where they make the money. Learn to do it yourself.
I would prefer you did 20 hours before long periods of low speed but No shouldn’t When running in an outboard the worse thing you can do is low rev and not changing Revs I would prefer you go flare out rather than really low revs But it’s a yamaha and we’ve never had any issues with damage through improper break in
Most yamahas have a hose fitting on side of motor which you run water through with motor NOT running If your doesn’t use a larger enough bucket for leg to fit it so water covers at least up to bolts that holds leg on
You need to avoid using anything with Ethanol(E10), as the fuel and ethanol can separate over time which is not good for any outboard. We recommend using 95.
Did you know I was an evinrude dealer? In fact at the end was the largest in Australia. Well warranty claims for yamaha was 1 in 43 outboards sold against 1 in 5 for evinrude. That’s why I keep on about yamaha...they really are just the best.

Nice job ! That was a great explanation of break in !
Does the whole run in process have to be done in one run
No
Thank you for your video it was way more helpful than the dealer where I just got my boat from!!
That's why you should buy from Brisbane Yamaha!
I agree!!! Cheers from Nashville, Tennessee ! 👍

Thank you very much, my dear brother.❤❤❤❤
This is good info. I just put a deposit on a Yamaha 2.5 four stroke. Im going to follow the break in as described.
You've made a great choice, look after your Yamaha 4-Stroke and it will last generations.
Does brisbane yamaha sell the silicone spray and do I need to use it for freshwater use

My Yamaha 70 has a gas smell to the oil as well. All you can do is run it hard and keep an eye on the oil level.
Check the thermostat, could be locked open, causes making oil.
