Yeah, I had an n64 but only 2 games and I would replay them to death. But sooooo many flash games were sooooo good and I could be the one saying, "yeah goldeneye is fun but have you played penkak silat?"
The discontinuation of the Flash Player is truly one of the most tragic moments ever known in the history of the Internet. RIP old Friv and Not Doppler. You'll be missed.
the death of flash is such a good spot to launch the conversation of media archiving on the internet honestly. i wish more people were passionate about it
@@Tiny_Koi the whole “everything on the internet is permanent” take depresses me so much 😭 i understand the sentiment and it makes perfect sense in context but we lose so much content every day because people don’t realise that online ≠ backed up. i’m extremely interested in and passionate about archival efforts and internet culture and how these things affect eachother so i’m glad it’s a conversation that’s becoming more available now. reminder to reburn your CDs, DVDs and disc based games. data rot is very real and very scary!
if anyone reading this wants to get involved in archiving, look up ArchiveTeam's website and you can get started on some projects! I'm currently archiving a lot of obscure wikis.
Knowing someone invested money into the “How to Train Your Dragon” game just for the flight mechanics makes me feel a kinship that I’d I’d never experienced before.
Goodness I remember so clearly playing Lif and just wanting to nuzzle a wolf and have a little pup and raise it but suddenly getting absolutely hate crimed by a gang of rabid rabbits killing me instantly
In Rah, it sounds like the looping NPC audio could be 'Gorgeous Nuit' or "Gorgeous Nut', who is the Egyptian goddess of the sky. I've never played the game so I'm unsure as to whether or not there were quests or storylines with the NPCs, but it could either be talking about the goddess herself or the sky looking gorgeous.
The woman npc in Rah making that weird noise is most likely due to programming error. It seems like it triggers the noise when touched but there is no check if the voice was already triggerd, thus it keeps triggering it at lightning speed over and over again as long as you are touching it.
@@misseselise3864 The gorgeous nut guy? That is because something went wrong when trying to make the proximity effect. By default in a game engine if you order something to play audio it just plays it full volume no matter what, and back then licensing others' engines was very expensive, which means they might have had to make everything from scratch, including audio effects. Alternatively they didn't even bother.
@@TRAMP-oline Ig, but tbh that comment comes off to me more as curiosity towards how she *acted* as a kid??? But if it wasn’t meant like that then yeahhhh that’s creepy 😅💀
I think that phrase in Rah is “ankh udja seneb”, usually used after a pharaoh’s name. It means something like “life, prosperity, and health”, kind of the “have a good day” of the period.
I get so creeped out by old multiplayer games that nobody plays anymore. Just going into the server and being alone but you feel like you might not be alone
i am that one person lurking in the shadows behind every object I can watching the one other person in the server because I'm too afraid to approach them but also I want to know what they're doing
@@dionysus8082 The griffons are kind of a grind to get to, but so worth it. The other mounts in GW2 are also really cool though. I still really like the raptor, which you get right out the gate.
I may suggest you to play Sky: Children of the light. It's a mobile game, but if you won't prejudice, you might have a wonderful time here. The game was made by the creators of Journey, so it has similar feel to it, it relies on non-verbal communication with other players using emotes (you still can use chat tho) and the flight mechanics are really fun, check it out, you might enjoy)
I met a group of people on Fly Like a Bird back in the early days, when I was in my early teens. We met over our birds being named after characters from Guardians of Ga'Hoole, which hadn't yet become a movie. I am now 24 and am still in contact with my now best friend that I met in that group on that site. (I was Gylfie, & she was Ruby) I miss the game a lot, but it's crazy to me that without this game I would of never of met my best friend.
things like this are literally the best ways to make friends, i met another girl with a twenty one pilots x roblox username on roblox when i was 11. now, quite a few years later, she’s my closest friend lol
I used to roleplay as a warrior cat, a horse, or a wolf on Fly Like A Bird when I was 9. Good times. I believe my favorite was the hawk and the forest (?) map was my nightly roleplaying haunt.
So as someone with enough game-making experience to solve this mystery, I'm almost sure i know why the game was moving like that. Its a similar mistake to one I've made in the past, they dont use "delta time". Essentially a game determines how long time is by frames, not time. So if you tell it you can only move a speed of 5 meters and your game is going at 20 fps it will be a 3x slower than if its going at 60fps. You need to multiply the speed by the time between each frame or else you'll run into situations like this. tl;dr the game was built for old shitty browsers but since you've downloaded it on a good new computer the game has more FPS, and since this is an ancient browser game they didnt consider you'd be able to run it at 500fps so it causes issues
Yes this is exactly why. Lego island has the same issue, the game has a turning speed that is hooked to frame rate, with higher frame rates making insanely zoomy turning (which is absolutely horrible considering how much of the game is racing/driving reliant). They did, however, cap the turning at 90fps, which they thought was unobtainable, esp considering the avg fps back then was 15-30
@@BoogyMushrooms Even GTAV does this, though at much higher fps limits. Past 240fps one part in the story mode becomes unplayable because a mission always gets disrupted by a car shaking because the physics of the game go weird at such high fps
THATS EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS, except, well, i know nothing of game making and these terms. They were AMAZING for the old computers people had and most of us never saw how a fast high quality Pc worked so it never bothered us, and also well, this game was perfectly made for the old browsers!!
the treatment of gamevial as they tried to monetise their work really broke my heart, its such a painfully common sight to see. it is unfortunately a biproduct of video games becoming more common, accessible and advanced, lots of people especially kids just cant comprehend the work and love that goes into even the smallest thing. ive seen a rather big uptick of it on tiktok that never fails to boil my blood :
Listening to that just completely broke my heart. They had so much love and passion for their games, making these wonderful unique experiences, and their fans were just furious they dare try to make a living off of it. I can only hope that wherever they are, they are doing well
The sheer horror and dread I felt when Izzy reminded me Miniclip was entirely based on Fladh Player was immeasurable, I feel like I've just been told that a relative has been dead for years and I was unable to say goodbye. BRB I'm just gonna sob uncontrollably for a few... years...
I still can't believe I'm watching a video that involves Fly Like a Bird, whereas a child I would play non-stop. I would just walk on the in-game streets and roleplay as an actual pigeon, saying stuff like I'm going to eat bread now. Your videos are like non-stop nostalgia trips of my childhood! ❤
LOL i love this. That game was also a huge part of my young life. Me and my sister would play for hours. It was so unhinged sometimes, I loved every second
I miss fly like a bird so much, I remember one time where someone managed to mess up the chick and every time someone fed it it would get bigger and we all spent ages trying to make the chick huge and I remember I got as big or bigger as some of the houses, it did eventually stop growing though. but that will be a fun memory I will never forget 😊
I don't know if I had commented this before but Izzzy definitely needs to do an kids MMO iceberg or tierlist some day; the amount of MMO that existed and that Izzzy has played is amazing.
Oh my god i was OBSESSED with fly like a bird! and yes, i was one of those warrior cat kids. Id always play as a swan and just glitch into the city houses to avoid griefers. what a time to be alive lmao
I'd never heard of Gamevial or any of their games until I watched this, but I loved flash games. My website of choice was Cool Math Games and my absolute favorite flash game series ever was the Papa's series. Papa's Pizzeria, Tacomia, Burgeria and so on. I genuinely played those games non ironically just months before flash went offline. I genuinely love those games and find them so fun. My runner up would have to be the Fireboy and Watergirl series. I will miss flash forever, so many cool things were created with it. R.I.P. to those lost games.
Same, I played the fuck out of papa's bakeria and taco mia months before flash went down but sadly I had to format my PC and I lost all of my progress there :(
Lol, my weird obsession as a kid was trying to find games with good tail animations/psychics. I still find myself criticizing games for having poor tail animations.
I remember finding Gamevial as a kid and not knowing english at the time I thought I was on some forbidden secret government project site or some cult's website and an ARG basically started playing out in my head, I might have been about 8. I was a lot more into classic Mario and Sonic flash games (and papa cooking games), I used to have a pretty short temper as a kid and I couldn't be entertained for very long by a buggy game with no objective. I started appreciating weird things only a bit later in life.
I love that you were obsessed with flying games as a kid because I was the same way but with swimming mechanics. I can distinctly remember playing Spyro for hours and just swimming in the pond and not doing ANYTHING to progress the story.
@@skullchimes Wait, I remember playing the exact same game!! I also had a game on my DS Lite where I played as an orca escaping from captivity (huh, I wonder who that's about lol) but I can't remember the name of either of those games for the life of me
I remember playing Lif and Fly like a bird. The freedom to just do whatever without any objectives while being an animal just scratched something in my brain, it was amazing. And I was also obsessed with 3D flying games and spent so much time finding a good one lol.
I remember fondly when suddenly everyone started playing fly like a bird at the library computers. So many people where obsessed with it (me included)... The discovery of that game was like an entire school event for a week or so.
This hurt on a personal level. Back when i was small i remember playing these games, i was all over games like feral heart, animal jam, and gamevial games. I loved lif. Fly like a bird and butterfly game. I liked to play as the swan or hawk on that weird russian looking winter map? And i was so happy to find ravenwood games. It was weird going back to those old games, when i was younger and imagination filled in the gaps they felt like amazing triple A games. But even now they feel more sad then scary, mainly cause of the silence of them.
We loved same games ^^ on flab3 i used to always play on islands or cityscape as a macaw or starling. I truly love that ravenwoods are keeping the games up ans running and even making special versions of them like flab second wind which is in open beta. I wish the games still had playerbase though..
Spotting the Gamevial logo in this videos thumbnail triggered so much in me. I used to play Lif so much it was unhealthy, not to mention their other games like Fly like a bird. I spent so much time with Gamevial games as a kid and completely forgot. I love Izzzyzzzs channel, they also go in deep on everything my childhood stood for
i was SO obsessed with FLAB and some of their games scared me so much to the point of nightmares (cough cough egg scramble) and i loved LIF so much I used to pretend I was a little wolf and raised pups and such (ironically when i was 14 i had a furry hating phase... looking back it was just friendly fire)
I used to play this game that was a weird bird simulator that my siblings would also play, so (since I haven’t watched the vid yet) if it’s in this video that would be one of the best things of ever. I loved that game!
fr, i remember russian hackers that would come on and they had chat hacks or smth that would SPAM the chat with huge paras that would completely take up the entire chat box so no one elses msgs could be seen and this would last on for literal hours until they left the game,, there was alot of curse words and alot of fights that would happen on the game as well and occasionally robin hackers that would fly around and mass poop on a bunch of people out of fun and also insult or bully people in chat or chase after particular players. i also remember there being 'no names' which where players that would put in symbols that they copied and pasted as their nicknames which would appear blank or invisible in game so that way when they typed or flew around the game they would take it to their advantage to attack others and cause chaos tbh unless there would be some righteous hero to defend them off the game until they rage quit. there'd also be people who cloned others to make it look like they were trying to ruin their reputation by pooping on their friends as a way of betrayal or smth lmao i specifically remember how robins and sterlings had some sort of thing against different types of birds in the game too, they'd usually target birds like pigeons, eagles, ringnecks and most of all swans (im guessing its because of how large they were compared to other birds so it was probably more easy to poop on them and it was fun to them ig) even if they weren't being a threat. being also able to glitch into walls and buildings by going through the corner of them was also a thing, and being able to type in different fonts and colours as well.
omg i loved gamevial games!!! thank you for making this video edit: to make knight of the dragon even more creepier, when another player picks up a ring near bridge they turn into a pair of red glowing eyes
oh my gosh so surreal to see a video about gamevial and fly like a bird ToT such childhood staples I think I remember liking the snowy map best? I can't remember much about the other bird add-ons, but I liked the parrot and classic pigeon. I wasn't around long enough to see the swan omg that sounds lit
I've never played it before, but from the footage in this video Rah seems horrifying. It seems so surreal and... unknown? I feel like theres something missing in it, like something went wrong. I feel like something or someone might pop up at anytime
I love seeing Gamevial be talked about, especially their other games other than Lif and Fly Like a Bird. There were so many games that used to freak me out as a kid but helped me to get into the horror genre in general, I was so sad when they announced their departure. Great video.
There was this one game, I forgot the name but I used to play it the most. You played as a futuristic ball, and you could roll around shooting other players by having the ball on a stance where it would pull out machine guns. Something like Bakugan. Edit: it was Nanoball!
Oh my god I feel like I was the only person who ever remembered Lif. It’s so crazy hearing that game name again and learning even more about the company!
I would love to see a video about, “cool math games”. I’m pretty sure it was another mainly-flash website. I’ve never really used it, but it was pretty popular at my school ( you may know them from their game, “fire boy and water girl”) I don’t know much about it unfortunately because as I said I didn’t really play it, but I wonder who else remembers it
We always used to play that, the space blob parkour games, papas pizzeria, and the duck games in the ict room on a Friday afternoon when they let us play all on cool maths games
Fun fact of the day: Crows will actually swarm and harrass birds of prey in pretty much exactly the way you described the griefers doing! Although in their case, it's to keep predators away from their nests.
Omg I would spend countless hours on fly like a bird. The multiplayer was always chaotic but I remember one time this random person started helping me and we built a nest together and laid an egg (can’t remember if the eggs hatched or not). It was a truly magical experience until I accidentally shit on them and they died. Rip.
@@mortober it depends. We were both pigeons in the city map and the nest was built in that building that had an open bottom with two columns and we built it at the base of one of the columns. (Idk if I’m describing it great but that’s the best I can do)
For the longest time, my mom was absolutely against having any video game consoles, so online games were all I could play when I was young! Love hearing about the different corners of the internet.
The death of flash was the death of An Era, I remember one sick stick animation I absolutely loved, had amazing animation, music, even bullet time aaction. Wish I could find it again. Pretty sure it was a series I never got to finish
I've been trying to remember what 'Lif" was called for MONTHS! Thanks Izzzyzzz! I remember a really strange glitch I found when playing Fly Like a Bird 3. It was the city-scape level, and this small bird chick (which didn't appear to be controlled by any player) started slowly growing until it was taller than all of the nearby skyscrapers. It was actually really cool to see!
If you ever want to play another fliying game, Magic Carpet by Bullfrog studios is MASSIVELY unappreciated. Flying on a.. You guessed it.. Flying carpet. You collect many spells, and get this.. Even the terrain was alterable. It's an incredibly addictive game, there was a multiplayer mode, vs being the most popular... It's just great fun! Lobbing comets at bad guys, leaving huge craters on the map never got old 😊
26:37 I was so excited to see someone out there to take these games under their wing, and help preserve them. Unfortunately after the months passed RavenWoods proved how toxic their team truly is. With nasty threats towards innocent people and their desire to have all control over the Gamevial community. I've Unfortunately seen the RavenWoods team go out and make nasty comments towards other games such as Wolfquest and even GTA5 due to them "stealing" flab / lif's idea. They spoke nasty about these games Infront of the Gamevial community on their Discord... Flab was one of the most famous games on Gamevial, and RavenWoods took that "special" taste out of it. They killed the original flab by making the controls, poo fights, and animations worse on a whole nother level. When people started commenting on their Discord server, even to give ideas, the RavenWood team would kick and/or ban a lot of people. Soon enough, RavenWoods removed the classic flab and replaced it with a completely different game. They striped that game out of almost everything that set flab apart from other bird simulators. Due to their staff team showing this extremely toxic behavior, the once bright flab, lif, and other games, have gone dark and depressing.
It fills my heart with joy that someone is talking about Gamevial!! I've been OBSESSED with those creepy 3D games since I was a literal fetus. Hurts to see them fade away into the interweb graveyard. Another creepy flashgame era was Mateusz Skutnik/Pastelgames who is still actively making games! Anyone remember Daymare Town and Covert Front?
When they announce the shut down of Flash Player, I was in denial to be honest, and when it finally shut down I had to grief a little. Friv and Dress up games was like a third of my childhood and even if I didn't know how to play most of the games there, I loved them to death and would play almost everyday after school in my mom's laptop.
16:16 pretty sure it's saying "gorgeous Nut" because of the while Egyptian thing. Nut is the goddess of the sky. Alternatively it could be "gorgeous nuit" which is French for night apparently. So it seemingly triggering at night that might be the reason.
I absolutely understand with sites that existed to basically upload indie games or didn't have a lot of funding for programming overall, but the bigger sites that relied on Flash and acted like it was this huge shock in late 2020 when it wasn't going to be supported anymore was ridiculous (looking at you, Neopets)--the original announcement went out in 2017, which still just isn't enough time to convert everything, but more got lost than should have
Back in 2009-2011 I would roleplay edgy wolves with other kids on fly like a bird 3. I miss those days. I mained the eagle because big bird = wolf in my eyes lol. Thanks so much for making this video, it brought back a lot of memories I didn't know many people shared.
tbh eagles could be considered the wolves of the sky. rather large but not too large, beautiful and imposing, predatory, fascinating to humans and often used in symbolism.. bunch of things
@@skirtdinkas7216both names sound very familiar. unfortunately i cannot tell you which name i had, because every time i played fly like a bird, i would change my name to various different flower names. does rose, petunia, sunflower, dandelion, tulip, etc etc ring a bell?
i got thrown back into being 7 years old when you were talking about flying games, i remember FEVERISHLY searching up dragon games to find a flying one, and i got super obsessed with the guardians of gahoole game for the wii because it had such satisfying flight mechanics, i should replay it soon! it was one of the first video games i ever played start to finish :)
Omg Gamevial! It's been so long, I had nearly forgotten about them... But as a kid I loved them, I would check their website everyday, hoping for new games! They made a lot of awesome memories for me and I am definitely grateful for that. So sad that they ended up like this, but the memories will always remain. Thank you Gamevial
does anyone else remember when the animals in lif looked like they were carved out of wood? I think that got changed pretty early on but the handful of people I've found who used to play it said they just remember the normal looking models
Yeah I was wondering if I was remembering some of the graphics differently. I remember the water looking so beautiful, and the sunrise and sunset. But yeah they were carved out of wood
I'm a game design student and it drives me nuts how people treat game developers. "Mobile games shouldn't have ads" "I hate microtransactions" "Why isn't this game free" "This free game isn't good enough" "UBI is a bad idea" Like jfc, you think game developers should work their whole lives and not make a single cent off it? I've been trying to work on a free game and I'm terrified to start a development blog on it or anything because I know people will shout at me for not doing it fast enough. (Most of the other people I got to agree to work on the game are also students, since I can't afford to pay people, so they don't have much free time either.) I appreciate Izzy coming to Gamevial's defense for that reason even though I know nothing about them beyond this video.
I would like to thank you for reminding me of the one game from my childhood i had been trying to remember for years. I downloaded, played and uninstalled Istaria on a single day while my sister wasn't home (she didn't let me download games on her pc, though i did anyway) and ended up forgetting what the name of the game was, I only remembered some parts of the character creation screen and recognized the game through that. I was literally so shocked when I heard you talk about your flying game obsession because that was literally me at 12-13 years old (I also had a horse game obsession phase but let's not talk about that) but anyway, I get really happy watching your videos about 2000's obscure internet stuff, it just feels so good knowing other people also had that sort of experience! I don't even know if you're going to read this, but I just wanna say I really like your videos, not only because of the topics which most of the time hit really close home(idk if I used that expression right), but also because you're so charming and have such a great charisma!! I hope you can keep creating stuff like this for a long time, you deserve all the happiness an success in the world for creating such great content and making so many people happy, just, thank you!!! :) (Sorry for any English mistakes!!!)
I remember reading about Fly like a bird in a magazine back in high school, the concept sounded really appealing to me, unfortunately I forgot the name by the time I got home and my search for "pigeon simulator" turned up nothing
Man I remember spending hours playing flab, the life games (serengeti and the forest ones especially) and some other rpg games on their site. It was so fun, I really miss it.
I haven't heard of gamevial, but speaking of weird creepy games, I used to have a huge horse girl phase and thus I looked all over the place for games where you can ride horses and take care of them etc. I kept returning to this very weird dreamlike online game with unfinished looking 3D graphics. The only things I remember is that the horse and the rider were both dark in color (both undetailed, I don't think the human model on the horse was more than a vaguely human shaped black blob) and the game would start with you already riding on a landscape that was really empty and vast, and sort of dreamlike. It could change too I think, there were certain events in the game that would make the landscape change from regular realistic-ish field to bright and colorful field (there could have been another color palette for it, but I forget). And sometimes the game would prompt you with choices (either if you found landmarks or just randomly I don't remember) and your choices would influence the landscape (sometimes) and one choice would make a giant appear that you had to defeat (I think the rider had a bow and arrow they could shoot with). I could never do it because I was scared shitless of the giant. I'll try and look for it, but since flash is no longer up I don't know if I'll find anything. This game was my first liminal space experience I think. I unnerved me but I kept coming back to it.
Maybe I'm just projecting because this was a game I just recently refound after thinking it was lost, but could this game be Nimian Hunter? You can still play it on Addicting Games
@@AmieOkami YES THAT'S THE BITCH Thank you so much, kind person. I'm really surprised you could figure it out from my description of it, I don't think I was really specific.
spectatorsatori no problem, glad to help! It was honestly the description of the giant at the end that made me go “fuck wait a minute I recognize this”. I had the same experience as you of playing any game with horses or animals in it lmao Also totally this game freaked me out so bad when I was like 10 or whatever but it’s pretty tame after replaying it. Very liminal though
I rarely leave comments on videos, but I clicked on this out of curiosity, and got hit with a MAJOR wave of nostalgia seeing the Fly Like a Bird series. I used to play FLAB 2 RELIGIOUSLY as a kid, and I had completely forgotten about it until now. It was such a shock, but a welcome and exciting one!
I loved fly like a bird and was really fascinated by these kind of liminal space games I think mostly because I was obsessed with finding low cost or free MMOs/virtual worlds to spend time in. The game like this that I spent the absolute most time with but still haven't seen many other people talk about was Miuchiz. Originally I got it because I couldn't afford Toontown haha but god it was so funky. I really hope someone does some kind of deep dive on it one day because I have so many weird memories about it.
I played fly like a bird once when I was a kid, and closed 5 minutes in 'cus I was so creeped out by it lol I always hated wide empty spaces and that's pretty much the whole vibe of the game
I literally yelled out loud "WHAT?? I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THAT LOGO EVER AGAIN" when i saw this thumbnail. I've thought of Gamevial so many times over the last couple of years, but never remembered the name, only some sort of chalice-symbol as a logo. THANK YOU IZZZY
27:55 I loved playing old flash games from Cartoon Network. My favorite were the mads magazine mini games. It’s sad to know I’ll never be able to play those again though.
IDK if anyone else has said this but at 16:20 I believe he's saying "Beautiful Nut" Nut being a primordial egyptian sky goddess, her body is literally THE sky and her consort was Geb whose body IS the earth itself
You've been consistently covering tons of things i was obsessed with when I was little, and doing them justice. Thank you! Though i do half worry youll cover catspawisland or wolfhome in the future and explode those communities with the spotlight
@@frogberriez its still up and running, just wayyyyyyy less populated. The most they get is like, 30 people nowadays it makes me so sad. I check in maybe once every month or two
w h a t I had convinced myself that fly like a bird didn't exist. I remember that I used to play it ... it bit too much. My go to bird was the Robin. Fly like a bird had a really big impact on me. Since I would always play the Robin and since I thought it was such a pretty name I'd always name my bird 'Robin'. And well, that's butterflyed into something else entirely, online I always go by Robin. That game basically created the basis for my online identity. I'm so glad that I had finally found out what that bird simulator I'd used to play as a kid.
I can’t believe I never knew about fly like a bird, or gamevial for that matter, i would have absolutely adored it, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are my favourite childhood games because you could fly in them
I worked as a Flash animator back in the early 2000s. When Steve Jobs announced he would no longer be supporting Flash, we thought he'd made a big mistake and would come crawling back. Erm... To be honest, I do not miss the all-Flash, unnavigable websites in shades of grey that for some reason liked text to be really tiny and blurry. It was a strange time in computing, pre-usb drives but post-floppy. I digress. Memories...
My flash game site of choice back in the day was CoolMathGames :) The death of flash really did hit hard, and it's awesome to see at least some of the content from that time being preserved. I didn't even know 3d games like this were possible with flash, since most of my interaction with them were 2d works.
One of the games that I used to play all the time on Miniclip back in the day was this driving game that was in 3D. Man, I used to play it a lot. I checked some time go and it's archived on Flashpoint, and there's even a version without the Miniclip branding.
Oh man, I remember CoolMathGames, that was my class's favorite site in elementary school We mourned greatly when the school blocked it, but people just moved on to those game sites named "tyrone's unblocked games 32" or whatever
Either because 1- liminal spaces or 2- fly like a bird looks like Superman 64(?) Or maybe you seen someone play it on your computer lab, really specific but I just thought of it
@@carobell8486 I'm not sure if this was possible with gamevial games but I remember other game sites resharing these games onto their game sites because I remember playing fly like a bird as well, but not on gamevial. I may be wrong though.
@@gravegoth8617 No, you're right. It was really common for sites to host any assortment of games they could or that developers wanted to share. Frequently, games would show up on places like Newgrounds that were put out by a publisher who had their own site where the same game could be played without Newgrounds
Aaaa, It's so wonderful to see you talk about this! Gamevial, back when I was a kid, was one of the few places I could play with friends, or make new ones. I adored playing the Lif games, and Fly Like a Bird! Did you know they actually made a butterfly game, too? I played it a few times, pretty interesting! But, still, Gamevial was my favorite sit to play flash games on! It was fun, and I adored meeting people there, or playing with my friends. I remember than in the Lif games (Serengeti, I think?) a lot of the male animals actually had little balls-- it was always so funny when I'd see them lol
seeing the fly like a bird gameplay for the first time in at least a decade gave me whiplash! i used to play that game every day after school as a kid along with stuff like neopets and the my little pony creepypasta games. watching this made me remember some other games that i played religiously and im curious if you ever played any of these... the endless forest, wolfquest, ib, transformice, and the attack on titan game where they looked like blocky little chibis are just a few that come to mind. they all definitely have that liminal feeling to them!
Oh god. Lif Serengetti was a game I had seriously locked away in my “child of the early internet” box. I feel like I’m 8 years old again on my family’s computer.
I still have a knock off flash player and was able to save a decent handful of flash games like flow and the papa series. I should go through my archive one of these days and see if any are worth submitting to an online one.
how come izzyz's videos hit my nostalgia every single time also seeing lif reminded of how wonderfully weird it was, like you could crossbreed a rabbit with a wolf and the game would be like sure! :D
I’ve never heard of gamevial games before this video, but it’s very fascinating nonetheless! I mostly played on the various mainstream flash game websites and poptropica. Great video as always!!
I have so many fond memories with this website. I remember playing the first fly like a bird so much and keeping up with all the sequels and updates. I also had a blast with this tank multiplayer game they had, I think it was called Team Tanks or something?
I'm literally so excited that you talked about this! As a kid, i always liked animal simulators and that's how i stumbled upon Fly like a bird and Lif and was introduced to Gamevial. As u said, there were a lot of griefers and i vividly remember how people would create gangs as wolves in Lif, which would kill any newcomers lol i also remember how fun it was to play Rah and Knight of the Dragon with other players, it was like a whole different experience. Also, there was that one game (i think it was called Butterfly?) where u could play as a larve and then as a butterfly, it was really cool! Anyway, I'll always miss the feel of these games when literally all the servers were overloaded with people. Maybe that's because of nostalgia, but these games will always take a special place in my heart
omg yes!! I used to be obsessed with animal simulators and I found FLAB and Lif on the playstore. I remember the wolf packs lol, I’d try to hide in the little rabbit den at spawn. I played a little of the butterfly game too. Those games made my childhood lol
Oh lord. Gamevial. Memory activated. I used to love playing fly like a bird 3 and lif back at the time those games were still pretty popular. My favorite birds used to be macaw and a starling and my fav map was hillscape btw. I also tried playing Rah back then and it felt like a fever dream to the point that until this video I was quite sure that it was one lol
Izzzy if you're still interested in flying, you should definitely try out the mobile game Sky: children of the light. Basically you're a child that flies through realms to collect stars. The flying is amazing and the graphics are gorgeous. It's such a beautiful and calming game that people just hang around listening to the calming sounds and enjoying thier time with friends
Such a shame they couldn’t update Lif properly, I swear all I want out of life is a decent (doesn’t even have to be fantastic, just decent) shapeshifting game. Flying mechanics, swimming, burrowing, different shapes for different tasks. I was really excited about that one game, Wild, where you’d be a shaman who could spirit walk into other animals, because that looked the closest to what I want, but even that’s been cancelled now. Just let me be a cat that’s also a bird, devs, come on. I’m not asking much.
16:15 I'm pretty sure that NPC is saying "gorgeous Nut", which is the name of the sky goddess in Egyptian mythology. He's basically just admiring the night sky
i used to play dragon of the knight a lot as a kid almost every day after school, and just a few months ago i was desperately trying to look for it using so many keywords because i forgot the games name... just flying around as a cool ass dragon in that game was such a unique experience and i dont think that ill ever feel something similar again seeing some game footage in this video really brought back so many memories and i am so happy to be reunited with these core childhood memories...

It seems like it triggers the noise when touched but there is no check if the voice was already triggerd, thus it keeps triggering it at lightning speed over and over again as long as you are touching it.
but what about when the noise doesn’t stop no matter how far you get from the npc?

@@misseselise3864 The gorgeous nut guy? That is because something went wrong when trying to make the proximity effect. things like this are literally the best ways to make friends, i met another girl with a twenty one pilots x roblox username on roblox when i was 11. now, quite a few years later, she’s my closest friend lol
I used to roleplay as a warrior cat, a horse, or a wolf on Fly Like A Bird when I was 9. Good times. I believe my favorite was the hawk and the forest (?) map was my nightly roleplaying haunt.
I did all of that too! It's so weird how likely it is that we played together with some of the commenters on this video.
are you me because i did the same lmao, i think i was around 9-10 too
More like cringe times YIKES
They did, however, cap the turning at 90fps, which they thought was unobtainable, esp considering the avg fps back then was 15-30
The Grand Theft Audo: San Andreas PC port effect
I think most bethesda games have this too, even the most recent fallout games. If you play them without a 60fps cap wacky stuff starts happening

Yeah, I remember last year I opened up Miniclip as a joke only to be shot through the heart realizing all my childhood memories have been deleted.
There are a few archival applications that saved most of the catalogues of popular flash game sites. Personally I use Flashpoint.
Flashpoint has pretty much everything, and Ruffle should be able to emulate most games.
Pale Moon is a browser with native flash support.
flash is slowly making a resurgence thanks to Ruffle emulator. Whithin a few years I think most flash games will be playable in browsers again

It really wasn't, I still remember people saying completely unfiltered shit.
fr, i remember russian hackers that would come on and they had chat hacks or smth that would SPAM the chat with huge paras that would completely take up the entire chat box so no one elses msgs could be seen and this would last on for literal hours until they left the game,, there was alot of curse words and alot of fights that would happen on the game as well and occasionally robin hackers that would fly around and mass poop on a bunch of people out of fun and also insult or bully people in chat or chase after particular players. i also remember there being 'no names' which where players that would put in symbols that they copied and pasted as their nicknames which would appear blank or invisible in game so that way when they typed or flew around the game they would take it to their advantage to attack others and cause chaos tbh unless there would be some righteous hero to defend them off the game until they rage quit. there'd also be people who cloned others to make it look like they were trying to ruin their reputation by pooping on their friends as a way of betrayal or smth lmao
i specifically remember how robins and sterlings had some sort of thing against different types of birds in the game too, they'd usually target birds like pigeons, eagles, ringnecks and most of all swans (im guessing its because of how large they were compared to other birds so it was probably more easy to poop on them and it was fun to them ig) even if they weren't being a threat.
being also able to glitch into walls and buildings by going through the corner of them was also a thing, and being able to type in different fonts and colours as well.
Gamevial's final message has the same energy as being broken up with
omg i loved gamevial games!!! thank you for making this video

I was so excited to see someone out there to take these games under their wing, and help preserve them.
Due to their staff team showing this extremely toxic behavior, the once bright flab, lif, and other games, have gone dark and depressing.

i got thrown back into being 7 years old when you were talking about flying games, i remember FEVERISHLY searching up dragon games to find a flying one, and i got super obsessed with the guardians of gahoole game for the wii because it had such satisfying flight mechanics, i should replay it soon! it was one of the first video games i ever played start to finish :)
Well, judging by your username your Google searches haven't changed much 😂😂
i remember having to move on to shitty dragon simulators on android to make up for it 😭
Lif serengeti was literally one of my favourite games as a kid omg
Omg Gamevial! It's been so long, I had nearly forgotten about them... But as a kid I loved them, I would check their website everyday, hoping for new games! They made a lot of awesome memories for me and I am definitely grateful for that. So sad that they ended up like this, but the memories will always remain. Thank you Gamevial
Flash player being disabled was the real pandemic
These games were my childhood and you are flooding my RUclips fyp with nostalgia! Thank you
youtube fyp? bruh
im sorry - fyp? your recommended bar, you meant; sorry again
does anyone else remember when the animals in lif looked like they were carved out of wood?
(Most of the other people I got to agree to work on the game are also students, since I can't afford to pay people, so they don't have much free time either.)
I appreciate Izzy coming to Gamevial's defense for that reason even though I know nothing about them beyond this video.
(Sorry for any English mistakes!!!)
Same. Those games were my childhood.
You can use flash, there's some applications which can let you play them.
Maybe I'm just projecting because this was a game I just recently refound after thinking it was lost, but could this game be Nimian Hunter? You can still play it on Addicting Games
@@AmieOkami YES THAT'S THE BITCH
Thank you so much, kind person. I'm really surprised you could figure it out from my description of it, I don't think I was really specific.
Wow it's a lot less creepy with sound (and the fact that I now speak decent english which at the time I didn't lol).
spectatorsatori no problem, glad to help! It was honestly the description of the giant at the end that made me go “fuck wait a minute I recognize this”. I had the same experience as you of playing any game with horses or animals in it lmao
Also totally this game freaked me out so bad when I was like 10 or whatever but it’s pretty tame after replaying it.
The highlight of my day is here let's go!!!!💓💓
I played fly like a bird once when I was a kid, and closed 5 minutes in 'cus I was so creeped out by it lol I always hated wide empty spaces and that's pretty much the whole vibe of the game
Legit same here ! I fell out of my chair when I saw it. Was almost starting to believe it was a fabricated memory.
27:55 I loved playing old flash games from Cartoon Network. My favorite were the mads magazine mini games. It’s sad to know I’ll never be able to play those again though.
IDK if anyone else has said this but at 16:20 I believe he's saying "Beautiful Nut"
Nut being a primordial egyptian sky goddess, her body is literally THE sky and her consort was Geb whose body IS the earth itself
You've been consistently covering tons of things i was obsessed with when I was little, and doing them justice. Thank you! Though i do half worry youll cover catspawisland or wolfhome in the future and explode those communities with the spotlight
holy crap catspawisland dude. that was my biggest obsession in middle school
@@frogberriez its still up and running, just wayyyyyyy less populated. The most they get is like, 30 people nowadays it makes me so sad. I check in maybe once every month or two

I had convinced myself that fly like a bird didn't exist.
I can’t believe I never knew about fly like a bird, or gamevial for that matter, i would have absolutely adored it, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are my favourite childhood games because you could fly in them
two uploads in less than two weeks, you truly spoil us izzy 🥺
I worked as a Flash animator back in the early 2000s. When Steve Jobs announced he would no longer be supporting Flash, we thought he'd made a big mistake and would come crawling back. Erm... To be honest, I do not miss the all-Flash, unnavigable websites in shades of grey that for some reason liked text to be really tiny and blurry. It was a strange time in computing, pre-usb drives but post-floppy. I digress. Memories...
My flash game site of choice back in the day was CoolMathGames :)
The death of flash really did hit hard, and it's awesome to see at least some of the content from that time being preserved. I didn't even know 3d games like this were possible with flash, since most of my interaction with them were 2d works.
YES! I loved raft wars and learn to fly. It was so fun playing their "math" games lol
i think its still alive
@@MEOWMIX3DS they are still up and running yes :)
One of the games that I used to play all the time on Miniclip back in the day was this driving game that was in 3D. Man, I used to play it a lot. I checked some time go and it's archived on Flashpoint, and there's even a version without the Miniclip branding.
Oh man, I remember CoolMathGames, that was my class's favorite site in elementary school
We mourned greatly when the school blocked it, but people just moved on to those game sites named "tyrone's unblocked games 32" or whatever
I’ve never heard of of gamevial, but some of the games look familiar.... is this what an existential crisis is like?
SAME I just used to play flash games like papa’s pizzeria but I have a weird feeling that I played gamevial before
Sounds like Déjà-vu
Either because 1- liminal spaces or 2- fly like a bird looks like Superman 64(?)
Or maybe you seen someone play it on your computer lab, really specific but I just thought of it
@@carobell8486 I'm not sure if this was possible with gamevial games but I remember other game sites resharing these games onto their game sites because I remember playing fly like a bird as well, but not on gamevial.
Oh my god seeing a video about Gamevial and Fly Like a Bird 3.... That was my childhood I feel so touched, thank you
I totally recommend doing that! You could possibly have a game that became lost media due to flash being shut down.
I will never forgive chrome for getting rid of flash.
Also nice sponsor, It's great to see a RUclipsr sponsor something that is actually good!
UR VIDEOS R TOP TIER IVE WATCHED THEM ALL
how come izzyz's videos hit my nostalgia every single time
also seeing lif reminded of how wonderfully weird it was, like you could crossbreed a rabbit with a wolf and the game would be like sure! :D
16:14 probably "Gorgeous night" but the way it kind of cuts off makes it sound like "Gorgeous nut" and the splat sound doesn't help
Sometimes I forget Izzzyzzz is a real person and not just something my brain made up to help me cope
i miss fly like a bird i used to play that game so much and got so heart broken when i couldn't play it anymore
Oh my god I remember the lif wolf packs so vividly
omg yes!! I used to be obsessed with animal simulators and I found FLAB and Lif on the playstore. I remember the wolf packs lol, I’d try to hide in the little rabbit den at spawn. I played a little of the butterfly game too. Those games made my childhood lol
Omg the butterfly game was honestly so hard to control lmao but you could customize your wings and some people had some really pretty designs!
Oh lord.
My partner loves this game, it's so cute 💜
I really hope she sees this! That game is soo cute and beautiful!
He's basically just admiring the night sky
i used to play dragon of the knight a lot as a kid almost every day after school, and just a few months ago i was desperately trying to look for it using so many keywords because i forgot the games name... just flying around as a cool ass dragon in that game was such a unique experience and i dont think that ill ever feel something similar again
seeing some game footage in this video really brought back so many memories and i am so happy to be reunited with these core childhood memories...
