I remember when Lewis used to look at me with that level of fondness & excitement. Now he just throws stuff at me. Oh, and we’ll done JD! I think it’s safe to say we’re all very proud 😁
That moment when you're a student and your instructor is filling out your log book before/during a flight, its like that hot girl signing your school yearbook and you know she's leaving her phone number
@@LewDixAviation Best way. I learned that when it stops being fun its time to bounce. You can get your ass kicked the whole time by your CFI and it be enjoyable
1:10 hey man, good job. but in my school we never put back the drained fuel in the tank as it might contain impurities, the glass is usually not that clean.
Congrats to both of you guys. It’s such an amazing day. It’s interesting how we can feeling all the emotions of the solo flight again watching this video. Great job @LewDix and Welcome to the Sky @JD.
Congratulations JD! That's a cliché but also true: you'll never forget this moment! And congrats to Lewis too for a very well trained student. Very disciplined - and that despite the "non-serious learning environment"! :) Hugs from Brazil to both of you!
Congratulations JD! Buuutter! An A+ on your first solo landing! You should have exited the plane and never fly again! haha .. "yoke-drop". So satisfying to see, when people unlock their potentials. Wish you all the best and great flying experiences!
Congratulations JD and well-done for sticking at it.....Keep in touch with us all and let us know how you get on in the future. I think you've made Lew a happy man..😊😊😊😊
Unfortunately due to my medical getting deferred, I’ve had to wait to solo until the FAA decides to move faster than grass grows. In the meantime, I’ve continued taking lessons and building up time to hone my skills, and I can’t wait until I finally get the chance to takeoff with nobody else in the other seat, hopefully sometime soon!
Congratulations JD from across the pond. I'm just under 4hrs into my PPL and watching your first solo was so inspirational, can't wait till I get the chance to do mine. Awesome video as always lewdix keep them coming, the music you've added to this one was epic😎
It puts into perspective how incredible our 'Spitfire' pilots were after basic training - bobbing, weaving and diving at over 600 m.p.h. and ripping apart the hun with machine gun fire. Maybe give them a minute's prayer?
From this 69 year old CFII with 36 years of flight my sincerest congratulations. I work in healthcare in MI and have a doctorate. You have just entered a very exclusive club. I am so thankful and grateful to be able to see students solo. Lewis is beaming and is so happy for what you have done. What I see and know is you have a fabulous instructor who instills knowledge, decision making and fun. The feeling of accomplishment and self-confidence is hard to describe. Fun stat for you: what you have done is only accomplished by 0.009% of the world. Great work sir.
Love these solo videos, Lewis - and it's very evident they mean a lot to you too, brother. Great job, JD - congratulations on your solo and wishing you continued success in your flight training!
Congratulations. A day you'll never forget. Are they still cutting off shirt tails? Mine is framed and on the wall, signed by my CFI with the date, runway #, ATIS and tail #.
I am going thru the same thing right now as what JD was dealing with .... landings. In my light Sport ... I can nail them sometimes not even feeling the touchdown and then the others are all over the damn place. I was offered my solo a couple logbook hours ago but until I can get the round out and flare to be repeatable .... Thankfully insurance mandated I get 15 hours dual in my Remos before I could solo. Im home in FL till Tues and hopefully I will have the confidence and it clicks like JD end of next week back in Oregon where my plane is
As a fellow Brit (Blackpool) living here in the USA for 24 years I applaud your videos and your students are lucky to have an instructor with the skills to train and relax them. My first solo was in Chicago 07/26/1998. Great job guys ;)
0:11 - "Measly solo"... You are logging Pilot-in-Command, Solo time - acknowledged by the FAA. Nothing minor about that. Major congratulations on this accomplishment, JD!! 3:31 - But... if anything ever happens, make sure you tear out any logbook pages with Lew's signature... LOL! Note: My first CFI told me that, so I'm not being original... ;-) LewDix: Epic editing effort. Thank you for creating this storyline, as it's inspiring for all future aviators.
Thank you so much for your content Lewis! My heart accelerates when watching any of these solos videos! If I might ask, which camera do you use to film in the cockpit? And how do you record audio? Thinking about recording my own solo 😬🙏🏽
Congrats! The first solo is always such a great experience for pilots in training. My instructor didn’t tell me in advance that he planned for me to solo when I did. We went around the pattern twice, then he had me taxi off the runway, I thought we were through for the day. He had me stop on the taxiway, gave me his critique, then sent me up on my own! He didn’t give me a chance to get nervous! I’m not sure I could have relaxed if he had! But it was a thrilling and successful experience for me, and getting to watch this solo brings back such great memories for me! Thanks for sharing. 😁
Can't wait to see his solo XC!!!! Or any future XC you two do. I should hire you to take me up and fly the boat to get familiar with big women again.....I mean...sorry.
Congratulations JD. So cool up there, keep up the flying & the great banter. Very entertaining to watch and also encouraging as I work towards going solo soon too hopefully
I noticed that, too. Possibly full tanks and some fuel coming out the vent as he went around the corner? The centripetal force as it turned could have pushed the fuel to the outside of the tank and pushed a bit out the vent.
Congratulations JD! Thank you for sharing your moment and reminding those of us who’ve been through the same excitement and accomplishment. You’re so blessed to have Lew as your instructor and I’ve yet to see anyone more passionate about being an instructor. Lew needs to start an instructors school as well. His gift to aviation needs in my opinion is to train the trainers too.
Congratulations JD - nice work! From all the videos I watch, if I’m going to fly over to Orlando executive, I don’t need a map, there is the lake, the downtown!
Well done JD. I shit my pants on mine, forgot instantly that the field was +1600ft asl and panicked because I thought the altimeter had broken even though I'd done about 50 circuits that day and the day before. You nailed it Brother. Welcome to the sky . .
We were on QNH obviously coming back in from the practice area when the instructor just jumped out and said "Go for it" My bad for not setting QFE. Big learning opportunity as it turned out 😰
Amazing! Proud for you, JD. Can't wait until I'm at that point. Lewis is obviously a great instructor, and the banter between you two makes it entertaining to watch. Thanks Lewis for sharing this.

Absolutely beautiful moment for JD , and true you will never forget your 1st solo.. and I think every solo student ‘Talks Aloud ‘ the circuit pattern.. the check etc etc. God Bless you fellow pilot 👊🏼👊🏼
Great Job!!! One question: Why don´t you retract your gear in the traffic pattern? Because you don´t want to overstress the student or to protect the undercarriage?
The boy did it!
Being close to my solo, finally starting to grease my landings, know how frustrating it gets at times, good job JD 👏👏👏👏
