Dad doesn't know I'm a licensed pilot, so I took him flying!!

  • I started flight training on March 20th 2020, on July 20th 2022 I finally completed my Private Pilot Check Ride. The thing is I never informed my dad that I did and decided to surprise him by taking him flying under the ruse that it would only be a High Speed Taxi for maintenance.

This is so good. You didn't leave him to think you were flying a plane you weren't supposed to and make him panic. Had the papers, and that made it all very clear. It makes it a lot trickier that your old man is in the industry, but he never knew. You thought of everything you needed to. Congrats on the license!

I did the same back in the early 90s. My parents, aunt and uncle were on vacation and stopped by to visit. I took my dad and uncle flying. My uncle recorded a video. Even though dad could hardly see he could still fly the plane. He never finished his license in the 40s. Mom had no idea what we had gone to do. We played the video when we got back. Mom cried. It was dad’s stories that got me into flying and they paid for much of my aeronautical engineering degree. What a memory. Thanks for bringing it back.

It’s scary when you can’t control your own emotions. I say this to WHOEVER reads this that if you ever see ANYONE bummed out sad or crying, take the minute to stop and let them know you see them and you care.
Seriously reading your short, to the point response meant EVERYTHING to me. Im trying to figure out what direction I have to go in life now I lost what meant most to me. My was a Nashville country music recording artist in the late 90’s - early 00’s. But I wanna say RIP 🪦 to my poor, sweet, lovely, beautiful wife Lyndsei Tuttle. I’m so sorry you had to live through that pain for so long baby, I’d of switched places with you no hesitation doll. It’s just Me and Our son who missses you severally babe and could really use your guidance you blesssed him with when he was only 6 months old. BTW my sons mother walked away from us when he was only 2 months old and I promise I haven’t heard one word from her since. He is 19. cause I would not let her get an abortion lis 19. She said she was too young to have a kid. She was 19. Now my son Jeff the 3rd is 19 years old. And a HUGE RIP to the best father a kid could ask for. Big Jeff Tuttle Sr of Monroe Mi. We didn’t have everything at times growing up BUT my dad always let me know he loved me every phone call or conversation and never let me go without And those memories I’ll never forget. My father was the DJ at the radio station here I. Our hometown of Monroe mi. 98.3 Nash icon. His saying was (Playing the music that made country great). Check him out if anyone wants to read further into my fathers illness. He was a big deal I. Our town and they basically shut the town down for his funeral. Hurts me ever more seeing how much my dad actually meant to people. Makes you appreciate everything more. Thank you all for listening. I’m Jeff Tuttle Jr of Monroe also if anyone wants to put a face to my comment. Lol. I pray 🙏 whoever reads this will truly be blessed today. Especially taking the minute to read my book I just basically wrote 😂. Kiss your wife for me and call or hug your father. You only have 1 actual father. And my life’s plans were devoted to my wife when we married so how the he’ll is it even gonna be possible for me to even wanna think about dating again. I’m 37 and was married for 14 years. I TRULY devoted all of me for all of her for the long run and I SWEAR we NEVER ever fought argued anything. We was just happy to be able to wake up next to each other everyday. Anyone Diggs up my dad and wife’s obituaries you will see. 14 years later I was STILL personally writing her notes like we did when we first started talking to each other. She told me never stop writing her love letters so I TRIED to write her daily but I missed some in between but just that little note meant the world to my wife. Life ain’t fair at times but like my preacher preaches to me, you gotta have Faith, you just got to. I don’t ever want anyone to feel how I do and did when trying to grieve the loss of my wife then have to grieve the loss of my father 1 year later. I still got the LAST voicemail my wife left me on my phone and the last voicemail my dad left me so I am gonna upload them to RUclips so everyone can hear their voices. I lost my mum 6 years ago, she was my best friend, my confidante and my saviour. I still feel her with me, I know she’s hanging around spying on me 😂 three years ago, I lost my 18 year old cat two weeks before Christmas, and I lost my dad two weeks after Christmas, then the pandemic hit. It’s been an awful time, but I’ve survived and so will you. You won’t get over the loss you’ve experienced, but you’ll learn to live alongside it as each day comes and goes. You’re still young. You don’t know what the future holds, and my advice is to not think too far ahead, take things one day at a time, and allow your emotions. You may feel ok today, but be a blubbering mess tomorrow. Allow it all. I’m in the U.K. I live alone with my cat Ziggy. (You can see him in the videos I’ve posted) life is hard, but we have to be harder. I hope you can get comfort from your son and any other family and friends you may have. I hope you have hobbies, because they will really help. LOVE IT!.....When I took my Dad up for the 1st time in a Cessna...he knew I had a license, but
on climb out he said "LET'S GO BACK, TURN AROUND" 😄 ...(small plane climbs so slow compared to an airliner) he did not like that.
Your Dad was great, no fear, only happiness.

I’m so happy for you 🥳
On the 4th April 1990 I did my first solo in a Piper PA38.
I didn’t tell my Dad that I was going to do my first solo that day so not to worry him.
When I got back home with my proudly owned solo certification he was in the living room watching the telly, I stuck my head around the door and armed with a big smile I said “dad, I’ve just done my first solo” he replied “so you’ve got your license then?” I said “no! I’ve just flown an airplane to 1,000ft and landed it on my own” he replied disappointedly “Oh is that it?” 😢

I did a similar thing to my mom in 1998, 3 weeks after earning my license.
Took her for a ride in a 152. Ya know the cheap plastic vent tubes just above each seat in the corners of the ceiling? Well, they regularly rattle out and fall on the floor. My moms just happened to fall in her lap about 1 minute after liftoff.
I proclaimed, "Hhuuuh! Wing bolt!" I was 32 years old. The look on my moms face right before she grounded me was priceless.
