Lewdix, in the beginning of your video, it looks like you're in the air flying with no hands, flaps down, and the door open! Hahaha! The ground looks so far away!
I didn't stall on my discovery flight, but the instructor let me do some 0G stuff and some really, really tight turns, you could definitely feel the Gs during that
He did great, you can definitely tell he did his studying to prepare for his first flight. That shows dedication! He will do great and I'm sure he will earn his certificate with that attitude.
I have about 15 hours toward my private now....I was the same way when I started....sweaty, cramped hands, and I would be completely eshausted at the end of 1 hour of flying. It gets better every time you go up. Stick with it, it will be worth it in the end!
This brings back so many memories. The fear, the nausea, thoughts of imminent death 😂, etc… Trust me it gets better! Just did a long solo XC two days ago. Still get the occasional nervous moments but no where near as bad as before.
I've watched dozens of Disc flights, and I have to say, you are BY FAR the best instructor. You might be a LIIIITLE lax but that sort of emotion allows the student to be that much more relaxed. I love how you allowed him to push himself as far as he wanted, when he wanted. You weren't pushy and you weren't judgy. You gave confidence when he was doing it all himself. Good god I hope my disc instructor this weekend is as good as you are.
That's all very kind of you to say. There's a common misconception about flight training that the instructor has to be strict and on your back about every little detail that you do wrong. That's a fundamentally flawed way of operating. I prove on a daily basis that you can achieve great things in aviation with my instruction style and I'm so glad that it resonates with you. If your discovery flight instructor isn't someone you can get along with, I highly recommend finding someone else. Remember, flight training is about YOU, not them. You deserve the best so make sure you get it!
The 1st step of a great journey. It's been 24 years since my initial flight training and I can still hear my CFI's voice in my headset - "Head on a swivel", "Step on the ball", and my favorite after she would reach over and turn off the engine and ask - "Now what?" and if I wasn't adjusting my pitch for best glide speed within about 10 seconds, my favorite - "Oh no we're going to die!!"
Hello from France ! I were hesitating for months to start my private pilot training, I saw many other youtubers here and there, but you are the one who made me take the final decision ! After a discovery flight 2 weeks ago and the discovery of your channel I finally will start my journey tomorrow ! Thanks again for your videos and the way that you share your passion to your students and here !
Spent that entire video smiling. Brings back memories as I had my own intro flight a few weeks ago. You CFIs really are a different breed, just handing over controls to complete unknowns and sitting back like you do. To Seth, the stomach thing may get worse before it gets better but don't let it discourage you. I threw up on my third flight (insert excuses here), but have been pretty fine since. Once you get the scan worked out, anytime the stomach feeling comes on, you do a scan and the feeling goes away. Before you know it, you stop getting the feeling and get to spend more time enjoying / being overwhelmed by the other parts.
Just did my disc flight today!! I was a little nervous the first 5-10 min , it was kinda windy and bumpy, rainy. After a little I started to feel confident in the air , my instructor was very confident and that is key! I can't wait to start flight school! Thank you for this video!
During my intro flight, I was more scared on the ground than I was in the air because rudder pedals are weird AF when you use them for the first time. I thought I was going to run off the taxiway lol
I just started my flighttraining in April (I'm in Switzerland). I was pretty confident going into the discovery flight, my biggest fear were that I would discover that I had some unknown fears that would pop up as soon as I'm in the air in a small plane. Luckily it was a beautiful day (great early morning light) and no turbulence at all (I only found out later in my first few "real" flights that that was not the "normal", but still nothing I can handle.) The flight definetly sealed the deal and made me register at the school right then and there...
I had my first intro flight last week and the winds began picking up speeds to 18kts crosswind and damn my first ride was pretty wild but made me a lot understanding about the forces, And my instructor gave me the handling for around 30 min and i did pretty good. After some time i was into it and those forces weren't bothering me that much. Enjoyed it a lot. Proud moment and my instructor was happy about it. Lots of Miles to go baby❤🔥
I wish I had you when I was learning. Id be a pilot today. My instructor was a nervous screamer. Made me nervous all the time. Finally gave up when doing departure stalls and I would leave out rudder and we would roll over in a spin. He said you will never be a pilot. Quit and never went back. 15 hours and didnt solo. Now Im old and have vertigo so never will be a pilot. I was an aircrewman in the Navy with 7000 hours as EW Op and Flight Engineer. Lots of stick time, but still forever regret not finishing. Was in Guam at the time and no other instructor was open.
Tell Seth to keep it up. I remember those days when I rolled into Warbird adventures and went up with Kevin in the Citabria. Less than 2 years later I am a PPL w/instrument and almost 250 hours now and will start my commercial. If he keeps watching all of your past videos like I did he will be a PPL easily by the end of the year!
Another terrific video! Seth did a great job despite being nervous! This channel is helping my lifelong fascination with aviation overtake my fear of flying. Hoping to get the courage to book a discovery flight someday.
Just do it! Once you’re up in the air you forget about EVERYTHING else. And remember, planes are literally made to fly, and they’re very good at it. You just tell it how and where to fly
I’m in the same boat as you! Terrified of heights, but fascinated with flying! I’m hoping soon I will book the discovery flight and never think twice about it.
178 likes and zero dislikes. cant be more clear than that, this video said it all. nothing like it in the world, and it only gets easier with practice. Great video Lewdix!
ive been on 2 flights years and years apart....very nervous and uncomfortable both times but i keep hoping next time i go up i wont be terrified. nice to see other people are nervous too
So glad you won the Flying Eyes competition to Osh Kosh!! Thanks for the great video. Seth. Great job man!! Careful, this stuff is addictive. Lewis, I want to take a lesson with you. Maybe just before my PPC checkride. I'd really love to fly with you, bro.
My discovery flight the instructor asked what I wanted to do...of course power off and power on stalls! Had them mostly mastered in a few minutes. Such a blast...Even did the old "float the phone out of my hand" zero G trick. Now...about ready for a checkride. It's been a blast so far and it's only the beginning! Awesome job making him feel at ease and explaining the "whys and hows" of things. Good instructors are getting harder to find these days, but luckily, I think Seth has found one of the best! (Even if you do hate on the Cessnas! HA!)
Great job, Seth! Really enjoyed your flight and sense of humor. You obviously have a great foundation of aviation knowledge. Hopefully we'll be able to follow your progress on this channel. Good luck.
Ah summer... you should visit Arizona. Highs of 120 degrees this coming week. Besides the supreme discomfort in the cockpit, recently overhauled engines are not a fan of the warmer air. CHTs of 425 and above on rear cylinders are not uncommon in the climb in my Cherokee 160. You can pretty much kiss afternoon flights goodbye during late June, July, and early August out here. Fly in the early morning and be back before noon, or else wait until evening/nightfall are your options. Plus, the thermals become extraordinarily aggressive as the day rolls on. Great video mate! 👍
Man I just had my own intro flight a few days ago in a 172. I've been waiting all year to do it and it was the most amazing feeling ever to finally experience it - even though I was almost gonna throw up with the nerves before it 😂
I can’t wait to go on my discovery flight ! I was a horrible kid, I never finish high school. So, at the moment im studying at home to take the ged test and I can’t wait to start flying. Mark my words.
I was also nervous starting out with plenty of death grip - now I've completed all my flight hours and solo cross country time and will do my flight test this year hopefully! Nice intro flight.
Loved how you discretely kept your fingers on the throttle on climb after Seth grabbed the yoke with both hands. Awesome confidence booster for Seth. Loved the enlarged instruments. Have fun at Osh Kosh, Wish I had the confidence to go.
I love your channel so much! Thank you for doing the videos you do, I'm going on my first discovery flight today and hope to get going on flight school soon if this goes well
Now that is a good instructor. He lets you control the airplane by yourself. I still haven’t done a take off yet after my second flight. He doesn’t even leg me taxi by myself. After watching this video next time I’ll ask him to let me control as much as possible.
there are multiple kinds of nervousness. i bet he was excited-nervous more than panic-nervous. i never flew a plane but whenever i fly as a passenger, i get so excited. my hands start sweating, my breathing is different, my body is kinda tense. i just love that takeoff feeling of an airliner :D so props to him for starting his dream, but i guess he could benefit from a more serious training environment ;P
Congratulations, Lewis - hope you enjoy your trip to Oshkosh! Not sure who all was involved but I'm assuming you beat out Josh Flowers, Dan Millican, Christy Wong and more heavy hitters. Very impressive (but not surprising), my brother!
I puked out the window and lost my glasses on my discovery flight and this guy stalls the plane! 😂. Good job and enjoy the training. It’s a great feeling!
That was one value for money discovery flight! Love the zoom in elements lets see more of these.Seth now understands so much and will be comfortable and confident going forward. Well done on topping the Flying Eyes completiion. Though I didn't help being in the UK shipping adds so much. In fact we now have a guy "Rory on Air " doing the discount in UK, have you seen his channel?
I thought he did great! My first discovery flight, I looked over at the wing and imagined it falling off and us nosing into the ground 3000' below. Now, I don't have any concern about that happening. I just solo'd yesterday.......stoked! He'll probably learn much faster than I. haha
He did a very good job on his first flight. You can tell he has been doing some studying, cause most people would not be has knowledgeable about airplanes on their first flight.
Congrats on the trip to Oshkosh. Glad you are going to get to finally experience it. I work at Sonex Aircraft on the airport and will be working our both all week so hopefully I will get a chance to meet you.

If you look at the intro closely, tell me if I’m wrong, but does it look like he’s at 32k ft with door open and filming himself just because of where they patched the apron

Just realised he wasn't in the air! Wow
Compared to me this guy is a legend. I panicked on my discovery flight and asked the instructor to not perform any maneuvers.
So...... I'm not the only one that was terrified during my discovery flight?
I wanted to do a nose up power on my discovery flight (152) and it didn’t stall it was fun!
Why did you stop posting
I didn't stall on my discovery flight, but the instructor let me do some 0G stuff and some really, really tight turns, you could definitely feel the Gs during that
