- I have never laughed so much at a sitcom in my life. This witty and LOL comedy is by far, the Best of the Best when it comes to situation comedy. This one episode (which I could not find on youtube) will delight those who can claim adulthood when it comes to religious sarcasm. After one of the home's residents (inmates) funeral's Diana tells god she does not believe in him, while Tom looks up to the sky and tells god, forgive her because she's old and does not know what she is talking about... hilarious. :-)
As an American I have never laughed harder in my life than at Waiting for God and Are You Being Served? We had absolutely nothing as good or as funny; I still watch reruns today every chance I get. Kudos to the Brits, they know how to laugh!
FreshFields, The Good Life, and May To December, To the Manor Born, give them a go. Great laughs all of them.
Don't forget the Vicar of Dibley and As Time Goes By 😁✌
One foot in the grave is not to be overlooked.....
@@thomasalexander5322 I love One Foot, Also try Only Fools and Horses :)
And Some Mothers Do ‘Ave Em
Tom is an utter sweetheart. I aspire to be Diana when I grow up.
Tom woke Diana up to a point.
Saw this show one night on PBS and I was hooked laughed so much in a long time
This show, Keeping up Appearances and Fawlty Towers are 3 of the best britcoms ever. Are You Being Served and As Time Goes By are also great. Last of the Summer Wine is another classic and very long running show. The brits really know comedy.
Such outstanding writing and actors!
I remember how funny this was when I watched it in my 40's. Now that I'm 66, I am CERTAIN I will find a whole new round of laughs!
Always loved this sitcom!😂
The Brits have the best sitcoms. One Foot in the Grave is another laugh out load sitcom.
I don't believe it.
@@the51project I had come here just to say that.....but alas I am 1 year too late
@@thomasalexander5322 You stupid boy!
@@the51project "Sod off you silly git". One of my all-time favorites was the one we're they went on holiday and thought they had been arrested but instead were taken to there villa.....also victor made an appearance on Father Ted that was really funny
@@thomasalexander5322 Stupid Boy was Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army. The funniest sketch in history is Father Ted: Type this into YT then click on it: Father Ted repairs a dent
I watched this every Saturday night , even all the reruns and would still if they would only show it again. Love it !!!
Wish they put this series on Britbox
OH MY WORD JUST SAW THIS AGAIN MAIN REASON I FELL IN LOVE WITH BRITISH COMEDYS....SO GREAT😂❤
One of my favorites!
another brilliant comedy still watch this one today another big thank you xxx
could well be the best ever sitcom - old people behaving in a way that is at odds with how society expects them to behave
As my gran said when she was asked if she believed in growing old gracefully:
'Sod that, growing old disgracefully is MUCH more fun'
Have you seen "Mother and Son"? Old lady whose son lives w her. From Australia. Hilarious.
"Oh, I couldn't stand Harry Palmer!" love it!
The funniest ever with excellent actors 😅😍
Tom is fabulous for staying - and introducing himself to Esme!
Love this show
Actually, I live in a place similar to that but here in the US. It's downtown rather than the show's country location but the feel is quite the same. Ambulances appear once or twice a week and we all ask, who is it this time? But it's not at all depressing, as you might imagine, I'm still healthy at 66. Guess I'm more like Tom (tho not senile), but we have our Dianas as well. All I can say is, we 60s kids were never to get OLD. But reality bites, and here we are. Cheers!
Sounds so much like Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Love British humor!
one of my favourites xxx
ADORE! This show. Thank you.
5 truly great series, only thing that made the 5th series a bit of a disappointment for me was that 'Basil the Bonker' (the actor Michael Bilton) died shortly after finishing the 4th series and i really missed him in the 5th series.
This just started back around again on our Local PBS station in Billings, Montana. Along with As Time Goes By. Finally, shows I can identify with.
Grew up in Los Angeles and I love the film industry. But .. gotta say that the English sure do know how to make great, wonderful, and extremely entertaining films and shows. Way to go UK.
STEPHANIE COLE MRS F-F-F-F-F-FETHERSTONE FROM OPEN ALL HOURS
I'm going to look for a picture of S. Cole wo her get up. It's like she was born looking old!
I showed my American brother one on Nan's shows (Catherine Tate). He laughed his head off.
Then I showed him a picture of her sans makeup. His eyes popped out of his head.
He put the picture as wallpaper on his phone, where it stayed until his dying day.😂
Tom was a gentleman.
I'm in love with British SitComs. I do need the caption but what I understand is enough for a good laugh. I've watched quite a few and have been my joy during this pandemic: Are you being served, Keeping up appearances, my fav this one: Waiting for God... Please tell me more. Thanks from Colombia, South America
"The Brittas Empire" is hilarious
'Allo, Allo" about the French resistance in WW2. Best characters ever. My favorite. All British playing French and Nazis, speaking English w French and German accents .
Good on Tom and Jane for being such caring souls. If only more were caring like God.
When the Americans try and do their versions of British sit-coms, they make a right mess of the job because they don`t really understand the type of Brit humour.
Tell that to Norman Lear and "All in the Family" as well as the producers of "Three's Company", Both are American TV series that that ran for years, which were based on British sit-coms !
They do, they just make American versions, wh aren't as good bc American English isn't spoken in the same way as British is.
Wouldn't be much sense in making the same show, would it?
It's the phrasing, isn't it? Americans speak more plainly, Brits more colorfully.
thank you for posting
“Burning rafters crashing down on your bouncing bum!” Hahaha
Stephanie cole was only in her early 40's when she took the part as a woman in her mid/late 60's.
She was born in 1941, and the show started in 1990. Hence, she was 49 going on 50 when the show aired.
20 years younger than Graham Crowden!
Not true. She was born in 1941. This show was made in the early 90s. That would put her in her mid 50s, not early 40s.
this was on american tv when i was a kid if you were up at 3am, which i am
Loved her in open all hours
A great show from the BBC, when it wasn't trying to replace white English history with Jamaicans and Nigerians.
Love the shows.
At the end in the write up I'm not sure I agree with the description of Tom as having mild dementia. In the first episode he said:
'They think you all go ga-ga once you hit 65, exploit it that's what I say'
I'm convinced he had a firmer grasp on reallity than the other characters thought and it was only Diana that saw through his act.
He actually was feigning dementia to get back at his daughter in law for the most part, who he couldn't stand.
Tom was Dianna's opposite in so many regards, but they both had a bit of a trouble-maker in them. When you compare and contrast them, they are actually very interesting and complex characters.
I love this sitcom 😊
Britcom is the proper term.
Agreed: my favourite Britcom for sure!
Love it
Loved this show ❤️
This was filmed at Oaken Holt nursing home nr Farmoor Oxfordshire
As a former Thai (old, little thing, school) Buddhist monk; I love the Buddhism comment.
Why was this video cut off short? Let us get our act together!
Diana was radical.
Very funny indeed.
Please share more
Would like to live in Britain.
me too ❤
Best sitcom ever??!!
So British the golden girls?
No, that was called 'The Brighton Belles' and was as funny as foot rot. It was cancelled and dropped halfway throgh the first series.
Asks to share respect for the dead and rudely walks off hahaha
Well she did say she couldn't stand Harry Palmer
Well she did say she couldn't stand Harry Palmer
It finished on Wednesday on the drama channel.
❤
Martin Clunes, Auntie Joan from Doc. Martin. Both programs are funny.
I remember her as the doctor in Tenko as well as Mrs Featherstone (aka the black widow) in the original Open all Hours
I love Doc Martin. And what a beautiful location they shot that show in. It's a very popular place to visit because of the show.
I miss it
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Volume to low!
it was ok but the funniest sitcom ever produced? No hun it wasn't lol Nowhere near it. Better than Only Fools and Horses? Blackadder? Fawlty Towers? Porridge? I could go on and on lol Was nowhere in the top half of any top sitcom every published.
I loved it, but I loved nearly all of them. Still one of my favorites .
cant even hear it
What? Says who?
Sad these a child dyes ...there still barley anyone there.at services!!!
As funny as this series is, it has been eclipsed by Mrs. Browns Boys in spades.... The out takes are left in and the main character Mrs Brown plays with the camera men and other support staff of the show on regular occasions. Very funny no matter what side of the ocean you are on..
Not alike.
@@accidentalpatient4152 Agreed. It's absolute rubbish. TV has not been funny since the early thousands.
@@turingmochi6282 `You should see the stage plays of Mrs Browns Boys. So funny.
No it wasn’t... aside from the rise and fall of Reginald Perrin, this is probably the most depressing Britcom I’ve ever watched
Try watching ant and dec that really is depressing comedy.
@@rickyj5547 I don’t know what that comedy is, maybe it was never offered in my area, but I have no interest in depressing comedies. The best British comedies are the ones that are the most stoic, such as yes minister or, private Shultz, which was hilarious, Or the ones that are the silliest, such as “‘Allo,’Allo” Which was unbelievably stupid but absolutely hilarious.

If you don't know what it is and have not watched anymore than this one little clip, you have no right to give an informed opinion because you have not watched it. @@journeymancellist9247
Maybe if they used sign language. This sucks.
Meh.
