When I came out at 16 I met a couple of 'old queens' just like these two. Both in their 60s,which was ancient to me,lol, and they seemed to spend all their time bickering back and forth. A mutual friend told me, " Oh darling boy, they've been like this since the day they met, they adore each other ". The fact that I was 16 in 1976, and homosexuality had been partly decriminalised just 9 years before, and the age of homosexual consent was still 21 back then and they'd been together 40 years made me realise that together they'd been through such troubling times, probably witnessed many awful attacks on gay men and ran the very real risk of being arrested simply for gathering with other gay men in a pub for instance. Freddie and Stuart are indicative of a specific generation in LGBT history and McKellen and Jacobi portray the folk from that generation in 'Vicious'.

I wish this had ran longer. Two series just wasn’t enough. This is good old school British comedy that we need more of. I’m so glad I have the complete series on DVD as it’s always hilarious 😂

Their reaction when Ash opens the curtains reminds me of an old aunt of mine: she was a widow living in a lovely elegantly decorated groundfloor flat in Bucharest, but she NEVER opened the curtains. I tried once and she protested. Turns out some squatters had made a camp outside and the area was quite devastated. She wanted to remember the area as it used to be in the 50s, not full if garbage as it was now. I always found the way she was clinging to memories both fascinting and kind of sad...

We watched this when it originally aired on PBS and fell in love with it. Then rewatched it a couple of years later and loved it just as much, if not more. I remember seeing this when it was on the television regularly. The sheer amount of sass in this series is absolutely delicious, especially when delivered with such masterful acerbity by Sir Derek and Sir Ian.
My husband really doesnt care for Brit tv and he was home on leave earlier this year and I just on the off chance was like, i'm just going to play it. I really liked the series and had watched it like 2 years ago when I bought it on Amazon Video. So anyway, i'm in the living room and he's in the kitchen and he starts laughing like after a minute or 2 into the first episode. We ended up watching all the episodes in about 3 days. It was so fun, being able to enjoy a show with him and have us both in fits of giggles and telling our furbabies to be quiet. A ton of doorbell ringing, lol. And finally like into the 2nd season, the furbabies realized it was just doorbell noise from the tv. But seriously great show, I wish there was more episodes, we both wished that. And then to my surprise husband was like I really loved that show, I downloaded it all so I can watch it again. LOL.
Hahaha, I am Dutch and never realised this was funny. After learning the language and married a Welshman my English got good and the humor got mastered. Now it cracks me up 😂😂
I can watch this over and over, and i laugh every time. This show is absolutely delicious. How these two absolute legends managed to be ever more brilliant... They've actually topped themselves. The show works so well because it's not just about an elderly had couple. This works so amazingly because Ian and Derek genuinely love and respect each other so sincerely. God it's really like the best year ever.
The scene when Freddie apologizes for all that viciousness and Stuart accepts immediately made the entire episode for me. (Jacobi nailed the voice, the cadence perfectly.) That's their relationship in a nutshell!

I saw the tiniest clip of this show on a completely unrelated video essay about different personality types and their interactions in film, and I just HAD to find the original. I think this is probably going to become one of my top favorite shows of all time.

I watched this series before Iwan Rheon was on GOT-or at least before I watched that season, so I knew him as Ash first. When we got the disks, my husband began watching first and when I came in and saw Iwan, I said, “Awww-it’s Ash, he’s so sweet!” My husband just looked at me. I was corrected quickly 😬
Gosh, Stuart really reminds me of Mr. Humphries from Are You Being Served! Same sense of humour, and they look quite similar as well! Love this comedy!!
This is so very good and so very funny ,our 2 finest Actors in the lead role's wonderfully supported by Fances de la Tour, plus of course Iwan, Marcia and Philip. All in all a brilliant creation superbly cast..
I'm watching the series for the second time in 3 days. I absolutely loved it. Annoying, disturbing, slightly creepy as they are, but still incredibly sweet.

A long time ago.
I know what you mean. Theres an uneasiness to be found here with all the yelling and bickering, it reminds us of real people who are not entertaining when they behave this way. but the skills of the actors keep it interesting and funny and real. Not easy to be this believable and funny.
Loved Derek Jacobi as Brother Cadfael. Actually read the books first and enjoyed his portrayal. Love Ian McKellan. Didn't know he was gay till one Oscar night when he and his companion were holding hands. Found out still later on from that revelation that Jacobi is gay. My favorite actors are pretty good comedians! Enjoying this. Thanks for the upload.
Sir Ian said he got heaps of female interest when he "came out" some years ago. Lots of suggestive letters and gifts. Said he rather enjoyed the attention!

The U.S doesn't know good comedy! Why do they think we love British comedies so much..I have to order these!!

I saw a clip of this show in a Good Omens crack video and now I can only see these two as very old and married Crowley and Aziraphale.

I forgot how funny this show was!!! And Derreck Jacobi, WOW!! I'M not used to see him in this kind of role!!! Both of these men are two of my all time favorite actors!!!!
I cannot believe how amazing this is. I really can’t. I saw the tiniest clip of this show on a completely unrelated video essay about different personality types and their interactions in film, and I just HAD to find the original.
I think this is probably going to become one of my top favorite shows of all time.

I watched this series before Iwan Rheon was on GOT-or at least before I watched that season, so I knew him as Ash first. When we got the disks, my husband began watching first and when I came in and saw Iwan, I said, “Awww-it’s Ash, he’s so sweet!” My husband just looked at me. I was corrected quickly 😬

This is so very good and so very funny ,our 2 finest Actors in the lead role's wonderfully supported by Fances de la Tour, plus of course Iwan, Marcia and Philip. All in all a brilliant creation superbly cast..

@@sirandrelefaedelinoge I don't know exactly what I meant by "creepy" at the time. I guess their endless bickering gave me an uneasy feeling. to tell the truth, I'd hate being insulted like that. They have this talent of touching exactly the spot that hurts the other most.
and their endless talk of death. as I get older, death gets more frightening.

I know what you mean. Theres an uneasiness to be found here with all the yelling and bickering, it reminds us of real people who are not entertaining when they behave this way. but the skills of the actors keep it interesting and funny and real. Not easy to be this believable and funny.

Bunch of old British queens, hilariously entertaining.
Loved Derek Jacobi as Brother Cadfael. Actually read the books first and enjoyed his portrayal. Love Ian McKellan. Didn't know he was gay till one Oscar night when he and his companion were holding hands. Found out still later on from that revelation that Jacobi is gay. My favorite actors are pretty good comedians! Enjoying this. Thanks for the upload.

Sir Ian said he got heaps of female interest when he "came out" some years ago. Lots of suggestive letters and gifts. Said he rather enjoyed the attention!
