- For a time in the 2000s, Ben Stiller dominated big-screen comedy. As a charter member of the "Frat Pack," along with people such as Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell, Stiller had an incredible string of blockbuster hits, including Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Meet the Parents, and the Night at the Museum franchise. In recent years, Stiller's stepped away from comedy, moving behind the camera to helm acclaimed limited series such as Escape at Dannemora & Severance. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity, we take a look at his career, from his early days on The Ben Stiller Show, through his breakout in There's Something About Mary and beyond.

Tropic Thunder is still one of the greatest comedy movies of all time.
No it’s not
@@MrCostaC Sure is. Even Cruise is hilarious.
@@MrCostaC yes it is
@@MrCostaC why
I watched it recently for the first time, having huge expectations, and I was horribly disappointed. A lot of characters felt miscast, the pacing of the movie was too slow for half of the time, the dialogues taking place had little weight or depth, and just generally, the humor felt like was tailor-made for 13 yr olds. I kept waiting for the big funny thing to happen, and it never did. When JoBlo hinted that there hadn't been a comedy movie as good as Tropic Thunder since it released, it really took me by surprise. There's tons of movies that are funnier than this movie. Heck, even some non-comedy movies have been funnier than this one.
Just my two cents..
This guy will never leave Hollywood, he has too much talent
Nah he was born into the business. Not saying he isn’t talented, but nepotism and knowing people is what got him where he is.
Not sure what would a talented person be doing in hilbilllywood. Probably washing dishes.
If Mike myers can disappear into thin air then ben stiller can, the world needs them both NOW!
@@mrfreeze2446 why? Will they cure cancer? Celebes are just people too. They only entertain.
@@creationlabsinc.189 celebs in general & then specifically mike myers & ben stiller is something different, you wouldn't know though, see ya mr personality!
The dude's brilliant. He IS a great actor, but his turns in the director's and writer's chair have been amazing as well.
He's got a six pack in every one of his movies. Most unassimg humble badass. This is a cool channel also!!
He wrote and directed The Cable Guy all back in 96'!
He also wrote+directed and produced "Tropic Thunder" which probably was my most hilarious cinematic experience I ever witnessed lol
Did he write secret life of Walter Mitty
Tropic thunder is the most cringe , deflated humor I personally have ever been through. I'm moving outta state just to not know the people I sat through that with.
@@dannysanchez4383 No, he directed and star in that movie
I love Ben Stiller, and like that he's still active in show business, and frequently shares the screen with Owen Wilson, who has a similar comedic style.
Agreed. He was definitely fantastic especially with Owen Wilson💯💯💯
They not similar, they just played together a lot, in similar roles.
I think Ben Stiller has had a pretty good career in front of the camera and even behind it, I grew up watching Ben Stiller comedies and looking back, his movies still hold up
This type of appreciation for Ben Stiller is so rare. The man is truly underrated. One of the most talented people in Hollywood and you’re right to say it. Cheers for making this video.
It's impressive to go through Stiller's work. He's been brilliant, consistently... and doesn't get the credit he deserves. Bringing joy, laughs and genuine toughing performances no matter what the role is. And damn hell he's a fantastic director!!!!
By far, Ben Stiller is one of the best things that ever came out of Hollyweird!
Agreed. He was definitely fantastic
It is indeed hollyweird lol 😎🌟👍🏻
Henry Fonda was on 12 angry men 1957 With lee j cobb Martin balsam Jack Warden
There’s Something about Mary is a classic.
Just watch happy Gilmore or dodgeball or night at the museum.
Hilariously the word “Focker” would not show in the caption! Lol
Ben Stiller is definitely the kind of guy who will come back and have some big hit TV show or streaming show I should say. He is an extremely talented actor comedian and director. Nobody can stay on top their entire career and he's had some pretty good ups and downs already. I don't think we've seen the last of Ben.
Severance is excellent. I was watching the first episode and really struck by the direction and cinematography, only to see Ben Stiller's name pop up in the credits! The whole series is great, but his episodes make them pop just that much more. I didn't know about his cancer diagnosis, I'm really glad to hear he's doing well now!
Thank you for narrating this one Taylor! Great watch after a long day.
Thank you for noting how criminally under appreciated Mystery Men is. Easily one of my top ten favorite movies of all time
Thanks for reminding me how much I love Ben Stiller. Tower Heist is one of my favorite movies that nobody's ever heard of, I've seen it several times.
This was very well done. I never knew much about his early years, so thanks!
I think he doesnt need so many new movies, his latest roles in Licorice Pizza & Hubie halloween were great and he has already a legendary career full of phenomenal comedies, excellent underrated movies, forgotten flicks and great serious roles
ben stiller was in licorice pizza??
but it's nice to watch new Ben stiller stuff
He wasn’t in Licorice Pizza?! 🤨
Your videos are so positive. I really admire your outlook.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is wildly underrated. It’s an incredible movie.
He is an amazing comedian. I love his films. He is extremely funny.
I’ve always been a big Ben Stiller fan. I didn’t realize how many great movies he was in until this video. What a legend
1992's The Ben Stiller Show was my first intro to Stiller.
Absolutely f**king hilarious show. My big brother and I loved it. Bob Odenkirk was spectacular in that show as well.
I didn't have much expectations for this video but it was SO enjoyable - thank you for your efforts!
This was very well done! Thank you! I love Ben Stiller!
I actually really enjoyed his more serious roles like The meyerowitz Stories, Walter Mitty, While we're young, Permanent Midnight & Reality bites....
All really excellent movies that are so underrated
Henry Fonda was in my darling Clementine 1946 with ward bond Walter Brennan victor mature directed by John Ford
I know Pet Sematary has been beating like a dead horse, but if it were to get remade for a 3rd time, Ben Stiller should play the father.
Yes, I really like Walter Mitty.
I love comedians in serious roles, but Ben is a tremendous actor!
Absolutely loved watching this episode from you ❤
Fantastic Compilation & Commentary!* 👍
🎥❤️🏆
The watch is one of the most underrated comedy’s of the last decade . I love that movie
along came polly, starsky and hutch, dodgeball. literally 3 of my favorite childhood movies and I'm just realizing now its bc of Ben lol well done sir
Going back and covering all those movies in the 2000s, man, he was a HUGE star at the time. Whether you like it or not, Frat Pack was a huge thing.
Thank you for this. 🙏🏼
As a Gen X'er, I loved the film "Reality Bites." And I've been a Stiller fan ever since. From "Zoolander" to "Topic Thunder," "Dodgeball" to "Something About Mary," "Meet the Parents" and even his superb cameo in "Happy Gilmore" the man has created some of the biggest laughs of our time.
Loved this 1 👌
Spectacular writing on these as always!
The stock music playing in the background made me thing I had another tab open somewhere playing another video lol This song is everywhere lol
Thank you for this video I love Ben Stiller
I'm really digging this more subdued, natural sounding approach to your read Taylor.
You sound comfortable.
I already knew he was doing just fine but it was great to see a video on it! That seen with him sliding across the wood floor with a fake dog in his hands from “There’s something about Mary” is epic. God Tier
I’m actually totally ok with Ben switching to behind the camera full time. There’s something about Mary, mystery men and even the secret life of Walter Mitty are some of my favorites from him but somedays gross out gags in big Hollywood comedies get tiring after a while lol. I wish him the best of luck in the future. RIP Jerry and Anne 😎🙏🏻
he's a complete douche bag in real life.
Henry Fonda was in the grape of wrath 1940 with ward bond John carradine John qualen oz whitehead Charley grapewin directed by John Ford fall safe 1964 with Walter Matthau Edward binns Larry hagman Dan o herlihy Frank Overton dom leluise sorrell booke Russell Collins John Connell directed and produced by Sidney lumet

@@John-Doe-Yo plenty of people have and there are some nightmare stories.
@@purefoldnz3070 oh joy
the speaker on this video seemed to have reeled in his inflection compared to previous videos and it sounds so much better. sounds like a super professional.
Without a doubt my favorite comedic actor. He made the 2000s funny.
if Mistery Men came out today it would've been a bigger success
it was too ahead of its time
I need more vids like these
"But why male models?"
And no movie is funnier than Apocalypse Now...
I was lucky enough to be an extra in the Ben Stiller movie "The Marc Piece Experience." I say a few rows behind him in the theater climax. He was very nice.
There was a period between 2000 and 2005 where Ben Stiller made at least an appearance in every comedy movie.
Also Vince Vaugh
Amazing video, he's truly a film Dad to us and Tropic Thunder is a piece of ART!!!!
You totally sold me on Escape At Dannemora, going to watch it right meow 😺😺😺
He is so good, and has cheered me up sooooo many times, that I even got emotional with this wtf. Well done my friend
Heavyweights is an absolute treasure of a movie. And Walter Mitty is criminally underrated.
Anything he pops up in it makes the film or show alot better.
You forget to mention this genius as Fast Eddie in Miami Vice 1987. Thanks for a cracking vid about Ben Stiller
He's the Director/Producer for the show Severance on Apple TV. When I saw his name on the end credits my mind was blown. Hats off. Standing ovation.
Thank you Ben Stillar for making me laugh during my covid illness, you made me laugh so much and really helped me through isolation, Robert de Niro very good in comedies, love ya all🥰
Meet the Fockers, Starsky and Hutch, Along Came Polly and Dodgeball in 2004 is amazing. I think Jim Carrey in 1994 is the only comedian that had a better year only by an edge.
Henry Fonda was in night flight from Moscow 1973 with yul brynner Fedora 1978 with William Holden home to stay 1978 with James d Morris directed by Delbert Mann the red pony 1973 with Richard jaeckel jack Elam Ben Johnson
Dude I remember the first time I watched starsky and hutch. The part with him using the cocaine is sugar for the coffee was fucking hilarious. I literally laughed so hard I could not breathe and thought I was having a heart attack 😆
He is directing one of my favorite shows right now "Severance"
Permanent Midnight was the first Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson teaming. You didn’t mention that. That’s a good movie, and based on a true story. Jerry Stahl, on whom it’s based, has a cameo.
Love most of his work
This is great! I actually didn't even know that he directed that many movies. Tropic Thunder will always be one of my favorite comedy movies. You could never pull that off today.
You forgot to say in 2004 he also did Anchorman & Meet the fockers, not only Dodgeball, Along Came polly and Starsky & Hutch
Henry Fonda was in the wrong man 1956 with Harold j stone spencer mountain 1963 with Donald crisp dub Taylor James MacArthur Fire creek 1968 with James Stewart Shyanne social club 1970 with James Stewart
You forgot Heavyweights
I would give Jim Carrey the edge for 1994, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and The Mask but Ben was king in 2004.
When you think of fun movies no one will even mention those 3. Maybe on a top 1000 someone will mention dodgeball but I doubt it
I love Ben stiller! He was great in Night at the museum films and in the Madagascar movies
Henry Fonda was in the rounders 1965 with Warren Oates Glenn Ford chill Willis doodles weaver Barton maclane edgar Buchanan Casey tibbs Denver Pyle directed by Burt Kennedy midway 1976 with charlton Heston Robert Mitchum James coburn cliff Robertson Hal Holbrook Robert Webber Gerald mcsorley Ciaran hinds Edward Albert glenn Ford Glenn Corbett Gregory Walcott Christopher George Ed nelson directed by jack smight
Heavyweights is such a 90’s kid underrated classic
thanks. this really made me appreciate ben
Ben Stiller is one of my favorite comedian actors I would love to see a comeback from him in the future
Henry Henry Fonda coming mother
Jerry is infamous for being a real asshole in real life. There are numerous horror stories of people that have worked for this asshole.
Sadly, those comedies from the 1990's/2000's wouldn't get made in today's culture.
JoBlo, I would love for you to make a video on
WTF Happened To Daniel Day-Lewis? PLEASE! 🙏🏽
Never realized he directed so much, and his ability to just fall into any role is quite amazing. He never really feels like a one note actor, his range is crazy impressive.
Hahah heavy weights was my introduction to him as well!
I don't remember much about Mystery Men, but it was pretty cool. I do remember that.
Lastly saw the series of Severance. Its awesome!
Great career, glad their marriage was recaptured; hoping to continue to more awesome stuff from Ben.
May someon please tell me what songs star at 5:50 thank you very much
my favorite actor/director ben stiller. I grew up watching Madagascar, night at the museum. in my teenage days I started watching ben stiller's rom coms (Something about Merri, heart breaking kid, meet the fockers...). now I am in my 20's, Secret life of walter mitty changed my life. I watch this film in every 3/6 months. Ben stiller is my hero since my childhood.
After anyone gets Lyme disease, as Ben did, maintaining a level you were operating at, takes tremendous effort. Granted, he has massive resources to call upon for treatment, that others don't. Give him credit, just for working at any level.
Tropic Blunder was the best comedy of all time. 😂
I hope Ben Stiller does comedy again down the road.
I grew up just outside Dannemora 39 years ago. The great outdoors!
Man i gotta watch Starsky and Hutch again .. such a feel good movie
Thanks for reminding how awesome Ben Stiller is.
You guys should do a retrospective on Cheers. :-)
He's crushing it once again with Severance. So good.
Escape at Dannemora is one of the best TV series I've ever seen, absolutely love that show and have watched it multiple times, now have all the books as well because I got so invested in the story. Freaking amazing acting, cinematography, and script as well :) Plus an awesome soundtrack
His part in Happy Gilmore is still one of the hardest times i laughed watching a movie
Ben Stiller has given us so much. He will always be one of the best comedic actors in history.
whats the title of this background music? 8:00
Haha Tony Perkins!!! I remember seeing a random episode of Miami Vice recently and seeing Ben Stiller in it lol. It would be awesome to see WTF Happened To Sharon Stone!
No mention of Heartbreak Kid? Hugely underrated and possibly his best comedy all time.
I just formed a new found respect for Ben Stiller
Love Ben, he is so funny and talented.
Edit: You reminded me "Tropic thunder" exists... gonna watch it now, thanks.
Although he did a lot of comedy movies way funnier than 99% of the comedians today "The secret Life of Walter Mitty" changed my life and my perspective of how see the things. The soundtrack, the character, the photography...unfortunately Oscar had bad sight of light comedies like this movie.
Just rewatched there’s something about Mary with my girlfriend who had never seen it before and I had forgotten how original that movie is. I wish Ben would star in more big comedies lol
Edit: I’ve been watching Severance and it is pretty good.
That thumbnail though - I remember those times, when smartphones were getting smaller and smaller - I wish I still had my old Xperia Mini to show the young un's today :D
His cameo in The Cable Guy is by far the best
Damn, short bus is taking some real hits
I had to pause this to go search for the Tom Cruise MTV skit, and I'm SO happy I did. It's absolutely hilarious! 🤣 How had I not seen that before.
Yes, you said it right. He's a genius. But, like any comic actor, he is often considered a lower caste or a pariah compared to actors who have made great dramatic movies like Kevin Costner and Leonardo DiCaprio. In my opinion, comedy actors should be awarded twice as much as other kinds of actors because it's simple to make people cry, but very, very hard to make them laugh. You need extreme talent and ability to do so. And I'm saying this as a former movie director, artist, and arts expert.
also during 2004, he also starred in the flop, Envy, alongside Jack Black and Christopher Walken and directed by Barry Levinson
Henry Fonda was in battle of the bulge 1965 with Robert Ryan telly savlias Dana Andrews Charles Bronson Robert shaw James MacArthur Ty Hardin Hans Christian blech Robert rietti William Conrad directed by Ken annakin
U never mentioned his early film roles Empire of the sun, Hot pursuit and highway to hell.
You didn't mention my favoritr ben stiller movie. The heartbreak kid!
New eps should include Clive Owen, Gerarld Butler, Colin Ferrell, Luke Wilson, and Vince Vaughn
Oooh Gerard Butler is definitely a good one . He was in “300”, then kinda took a bit of a nosedive after
@@TanukiOkiyo you are actually wrong. Gerard Butler just did Olympus has fallen & London has fallen. Two really fun action movies and also Greenland was a surprisingly great disaster movie, Den of thieves was fun and a decent heist movie, Copshop was one of the most fun movies I have seen in a long time. So he didnt disappeared
Kind of disappointed that you didn't mention heartbreak kid....underrated rom-com
I really miss the old Benjamin :c
I think he was 1 of the best comedy actors across the 2000's (Excluding"Zoolander 2") But im also really excited to see what
Ben will do next
Tropic thunder is like apocalypse now but even funnier. Great quote
Stiller had to grow on me. I think he and Wilson were friends before Zoolander.
Henry Fonda was in warlock 1959 with Anthony Quinn Richard widmark don red barry deforest Kelley whit bissell Regis toomey
