I watched this movie for the first time with my brother in law on LSD years ago and every bit of dialogue just seemed like a jumbled mess of words and that's the only thing I remember.
I always thought this was a pretty good scene and captured his thoughts pretty well, it's basically all the known interviews he did from 69-70-71 paraphrased into a 2 minute scene. A lot of Morrison's predictions of the future couldn't be more accurate in 2020, almost 50 years ahead of his time.
The bar is Barney's Beanery on Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles. It isn't to far from the Doors Studio and the record company Electra. When i was in living back home in LA, i was in process of making a Beatles/' Rock tour. The studio is now a fancy restaurant. Janis Joplin made one of her final appearances also at Barney's..

Anyway, Barney's is at 8447 W Santa Monica Blvd. Open with same restrictions.. Also found out that The Whiskey, Rainbow an Roxy is closed due to the stinking Covid! Can go to Google Map and find a lot. Before the Northridge quake threw me to a different world, I was putting together a Beatles. Rock tour. Had around 200 places. Would take me weeks to put together a video. That time I don't have. Am now existing in Phoenix. Where are you?

I like that scene where Morrison (Kilmer), the Lizard Shaman King, shows up drunk, at somebody's birthday party, and hands out copies of a little red book he has written, titled something like, A Native American Prayer, and then he passes out. Reminds me of Thanksgiving Day, Anytown USA, where they seem to celebrate the mass murder, and intended extinction, of an indigenous people - the Native Americans. Frankly, this movie, and others like it, help justify the existence of Hollywood. For artists are able to say, and sometimes do say, what politicians and preachers refuse to say - the obvious. "You underestimate the audience" he tells the reporter (played by Michael Madsen), "they are looking, for something, sacred".
Donald Newton this movie is such crap. It's an American prayer. Don't believe every thing you see. If you are interested in Jim there are lots of research on him. Some of that is also false.
I think Oliver stone did an amazing job on this movie..who knows that's real and what isn't I love the movie personally. I think it should have made much more money than it didn't.
it's an awful movie with an awful screenplay. You should take time to view some of the interviews Jim gave that are on RUclips. They give you a much different picture of the man than the one Val Kilmer portrayed.

He HATED this movie because he said the same thing, it made Jim out to look like an asshat, but at the same time he said "it wasn't too far off." Now I know he wasn't a member of the band and what have you, but he saw the Doors play 4 times and said it was as wild as the movie depicts, and that Jim was out of hand more than not. I think the movie is false, but itat least paints faint strokes of what he was really like.
Such a waste of life. No wonder he died so young. All that smoking and drinking caught up with him. Who knows what more Jim could have done if he was still alive. Very talented man

It's located a couple of blocks away from the Alta Cienega Motel that Jim lived in, and another block from where the Doors recorded LA Woman. According to the staff at Barney's it was real. This also the last place Janis Joplin partied the night she died.
