  • The new conspiracy queen is Marchesa! This is a political creature control deck that tries to tax your opponents all while using Queen Marchesa as a political card draw engine. I already know that I will want more cards from Conspiracy 2 in this list and I needed to add Royal Assassin because ... reasons. So please check out the updated list on TappedOut.

    Queen Marchesa looks so amazing - and from the 5+ decklists I have seen, they all go into different directions, from 0 other creatures to yours, which has 40 other creatures. It will take me a while to figure out my own route but great to see a commander that allows for so much flexibility. My decks so far have been pure tribal so that will be a breath of fresh air!

  • @CosmicErrata
    @CosmicErrata 8 лет назад +10

    I'm having flavor as priority in mind. Making a military themed edh like a kingdom. Creature types like soldier, knight, advisor and assassin.
    Not sure how well it'll work. Queen Marchesa isn't on mtgvault yet.

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад +1

      Oooh! Are you going to use "King Suleiman", "King Macar, the Gold-Cursed", "Tymaret, the Murder King", or "Darien, King of Kjeldor" (my preference)? Or you can include no king cause Marchesa is all the royalty we need (then you must include "King's Assassin"). ... One card slot DONE and only 98 flavor decisions left! Your deck will be sweet.

    • @CosmicErrata
      @CosmicErrata 8 лет назад +2

      Yeah, unlikely to include kings, because HIGHLANDER! THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! (DEMOMAN)
      Also, if possible, I want to make it a girl power deck, just ladies!~
      Also, to throw in the flavor, I'll play voting cards and extort cards. Like a true Queen! Democracy and Taxation!

  • @evilflamingmonkey
    @evilflamingmonkey 6 лет назад

    when I saw queen Marchesa's second ability I basically came up with strategy of have a good bit of removal so you can keep your opponent's creatures little, making the assassin tokens that much harder to block. have some white life-gain mixed in there so players can't take you down as quickly. and finally have red be in pump, further killing off creatures and damaging players with spells like fireball, and giving additional combat steps.

  • @nicholaswong2184
    @nicholaswong2184 8 лет назад +13

    I actually really want you to make that all vampire decklist for Marchesa, for one simple reason.
    Quoted from Wizard's: "Court of the Vampire King/Queen. This disturbing three-day holiday was invented by Olivia Voldaren. A human is identified, kidnapped, and brought to a large vampire estate or castle, where they serve as "King or Queen of the Vampires" for the duration of the event. The mock king/queen, always utterly terrified, of course, is served the best food and drink and is theatrically supplicated. The vampires will follow any order the king or queen issues, except any attempt to abdicate the "throne." At the end of the three days, the king or queen is killed and all present share the blood."
    How badly do I need the Court Of The Vampire Queen Marchesa? So badly.

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад +1

      Oh wow, that's so cool. Besides the vampire host, did you think of any other thematic cards that belong in the story/deck?

    • @nicholaswong2184
      @nicholaswong2184 8 лет назад

      I think the fact that Marchesa herself makes tokens and the vampires are supposed to "feed on her" could be a potential place to go with this- Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet could produce additional fodder to a sac & wreck deck that's just into controlling the boardstate with things like Butcher of Malakir, Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos. While you're at it, you might as well put in Karmic Justice, right?
      As with all the lifegain this deck has with sucking the soul of your opponents, it' basically a cup of wine offered to Marchesa in her time as reigning Queen, so she should be putting that into good use with paying life for effects such as Umbilicus and Blood Clock, Moonlight Bargin, Bonds of Agony, Pain's Reward and Dark Tutelage.
      Long Live The Queen, amirite?

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад +3

      I'm surprised at how many great support cards add to the feeling of the deck. I only have a basic knowledge of magic's story line and so everything you said has been fascinating to me. I wonder if commander players would be interested in a Vorthos video of Marchesa based off of your awesome ideas? Your approach to deck building is underappreciated. Thank you so much for cluing me into this story!

    • @sertaki
      @sertaki 7 лет назад

      This is an amazing and very flavorful deck idea!
      I remember reading that little vampire lore tidbit and being quite amused by how well it fits vampires, but I didn't think of it. Merchasa simply looked the part of a legitimate ruler (insofar as killing her predecessor makes her one) and not a mockery.
      But if you surround her with the right cards, it works very well!
      @Jumbo: I am a huge Vorthos at heart and would enjoy storyline focused commander decks very much!

    I have gotten some great feedback and a lot of nice words. The most common feedback is that my videos are too long .. yeah, I can get carried away but commander is so exciting. I made a Selvala, Heart of the Wilds Video (ruclips.net/video/OEXTvvXE-Bk/видео.html) and a Grenzo, Havoc Raiser Video (ruclips.net/video/6a8LW8_cdZg/видео.html) that are about half the length. Are they better?

      If you're using Darien, there is a SUPER cheeky little combo you can use. Soulwarden, and Soul Attendant. For each damage you take, you get a 1/1, and for each 1/1 you get, you gain a life. Either one of them out with Darien means they have to OHKO you, or you just get creatures, and with both of them out, their either OHKO you, or you gain creatures and life. I suppose Suchur priest is also worth a mention since the deck has a tax theme to it, the priest gives you life for creature you get, and makes creatures your opponents get cost them a life. personally I say why not all three, but that'd just me.

    I love this Marchesa and this deck's philosophy, but alas I have little money, and the mana base for this is really expensive. Despite the demanding costs would it still be viable after taking out the $10+ fetches and duals?

    • @valentinsteinerberger6173
      @valentinsteinerberger6173 7 лет назад +2

      I dont play 3 color decks myself but I think every deck gets online with not more than 5 tap-Lands or so. There are many duals in magic that could come into play tapped but generally don`t.
      Nevertheless I would build the deck first and than make the mana base. Maybe run a Shockland in your core-colors, but Fetchlands in EDH are goodies. They don`t make good deck-thinning and in three colors you get your colors anyway. It´s not like modern or so.
      However Painlands, Manlands and lands like sunpetal grove are awesome! These do stuff and don`t forget the triland.

  • @padremitch

    Just a bit of an update: I've constructed this deck with a few minor tweaks of my own. I have a few more creatures, and a few more removal spells. When I played with my local group this past Monday, I took 2nd with only being defeated by a deck that swept 42, 16/16 trample & haste tokens at the entire table. Creatures with flying prove to be a bit of a challenge too but, otherwise, it's an amazing deck with a fun twist to playing commander. It's my favorite EDH deck to play.

I hope that one day some of the awesome people you mentioned will be fans of my work and promote me because they want to. I also think it would be genuine if a fan of mine said to them: ”Hey, check out this jumbo commander guy; have him on your show!”
      I’m probably naive but I would hope that other people promoting my work would come about naturally through a genuine desire to collaborate rather than me making a deal or asking for a favor. Does that make any sense? Am I being stupid and ignoring how the world really works?

    Just a quick note: Trample and Deathtouch have a great synergy, because you can trample over blocking creatures with all the damage not needed to kill it. A 3/3 Trample/Deathtouch being blocked by a 4/4 results in BOTH being dead and 2 Damage to the opponent. I am sure you knew that trick, but because many players do not know, you should have pointed that out more clearly.

    I like the idea your tossing out here for her. Though I'm not into the idea of running a lot of stax with her. I think she has potential as a control commander, you said it's all about not noticing you for control which is what she does in a sneaky political way. First she brings the monarchy to the commander game, which shines in a multiplayer match. You want them to kill each other for the crown. Everyone knows card draw is good, so ideally the one with the monarch card gets targeted. Like passing the Aggro to someone else. And unlike everyone else you get something out of it regardless, whether it's a second draw or an assassin token. I think people were missing the point with her abilities, cause there are waaaay better ways to pump out tokens or draw cards. instead of focusing on just on just one side of her, think of the bigger picture. Have cards that make being the monarch matter for you, but don't fight hard to keep it, let them take it, while you sit back and get your stuff in order then take it back when you choose, with unblock able stuff. Like a big game of hot potato. Except you control who gets the crown and when. And hopefully while the others kill themselves over card advantage you hang out with answers to whatever they play that you don't like, and remove it. She's balanced like that, and while I've seen people hate on her compared to her older card, I think people have over looked that she's set up to benefit from being and not being the monarch. Or at least that's the deck I'm building for her. Treat her like the queen she is, control with a splash of Aggro and stax, play the politics game like a real monarch would. lol tho I admit I don't know how competitive I could get with the deck, and it would probably suffer in a 1v1. Regardless nice video man, don't worry about the length, I also get excited for edh and tend to ramble, there is just so much to point in commander.

    I play infinite aristocrats with this commander. Teysa, orsov scion+Darkest hour or infinite persist with anafenza+murderous redcap/apparition. Dmg comes form zuluport cutthroat/blood artist/impact tremors. Outpost siege is great because early game its a draw card and late in the game it could deal additional dmg in dragon mode.

      +Jumbo Commander theres room for both! one of the best parts of commander is the massive deck sizes. both cards have decent draw ability but outpost seige is seems less threatening to opponents so it tends to stick around longer. id prefer outpost seige for that reason if i had to choose. reap more benefits over time

    I just started really drawing an interest to commander and made a really fun Grenzo, Dungeon Warden EDH deck; however, it can't really compete in friendly games against my other friends I play with.
    This is exactly the type of deck I want to play and the scheme/mechanics of this deck is awesome! Any substitutions on some of the more costly lands?
    Loved the video, regardless of the length. I appreciate the depth that went into it. Subbed! 😄

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад +1

      What kinds of commanders do your friends play with? And how intense are their decks?
      To make the mana base more manageable cut the fetchlands (arid mesa, bloodstained mire, marsh flats), Cut the Fetid Heath too. The shocklands lose some value when you can't fetch them so they could end up on the chopping block as well saving you close to $200!
      An easy replacement is the painlands (caves of koilos, Sulfurous Springs, battlefield forge). The springs is the most expensive at only $4. And you can consider adding something like an eldrazi displacer if you want to use the colorless mana the painlands produce. There is also nothing wrong with bouncelands (orzhov basilica, boros garrison, rakdos carnarium) there is a reason why they are such high picks in limited. I shy away from them a little because my playgroup LOVES to bounce them ... but they are asses so I say run them until they become a liability. Also consider trading for shambling vents and needle spires; they are both under $3 right now and they are just collecting dust in many binders (but if you want to wait until rotation they will drop a little more). Man lands have a lot more value then you think; I often find myself firing them up to threaten a planeswalker post wrath or deterring an attack just with the threat of activation. I hope that helps a little. Obviously there is no absolutely right way to build your deck so if you want to go even more budget don't stress about it. Cheers.

    • @padremitch
      @padremitch 8 лет назад

      Some of the decks that they run are: Maelstrom Wanderer, Kaalia of the Vast, & the Mimeoplasm decks.
      Obviously I can compete if I get the right things out but, I don't have anything in terms of counters, or removal in general. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy my Grenzo deck, I would just like something that could keep me into the discussion of the game.

    • @padremitch
      @padremitch 8 лет назад

      Also, how would Grand Abolisher fit into this deck? I really like the card & I feel that it has a nice taxing place in this deck.

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад

      That sounds familiar. I'm not surprised good old grenzo has a hard time with those commanders. I have a Grenzo, Dungeon Warden infect deck that can just maybe, sometimes, eek out those last few poison ... sometimes. It's such a loss in tempo when you pay two and flip a land into your graveyard. I end up using Grenzo as a way to refill my side after a board wipe. The successful Grenzo decks I have seen are goblin tribal (powerful but a little boring imo).
      If you want to have a commander that plays in a similar style to Grenzo you can transition to an Alesha build. It is MUCH easier to manipulate your graveyard than the bottom of your library. I also think adding white (in Marchesa or in Alesha) would help a lot. Your opponents need their commanders (especially Kaalia and Mimeoplasm) so a well timed swords to plowshares or path to exile can give you the time to bring your strategies online and punish them for having powerful but liniar and inflexible strategies. Some people hate these effects but Nevermore can also punish these strategies.
      I think Wanderer is your biggest problem because he is so much value and your opponents can play him in very different ways. And if you kill him he can often be immediately cast for more value. I have found that Blind Obedience and new Thalia can slow down a hasty Wanderer turn and hopefully the table can react to his plays.

I'd definitely run a taxes package as well, heck even run rakdos lord of riots, obzedat ghost council, angel of serenity, iroas, purphoros, Erebos, do any sort of attrition ping for attacking, mogus seems really strong. So I'd run aggressive offense and tax players. Seems legit

      So if you run any of these you can adjust for that in your mana base by running the bounce lands from old ravnica in marchesa's colors. Have rupture spire, and command tower. Even anything like guilded lotus to tap for 3 of any color you need :)

    Just wanted to say I love the video but I have a quick question, given this list how many lands would you want to play? I have a bad habit for putting too many lands in my EDH decks haha.

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад +1

      I always aim for 37 lands. I have heard from several sources to begin with 40 lands and then cut a land for every two pieces of ramp under 4 cmc. I honestly don't know where that math comes from but it is something I have heard so I'll pass it on. I have seen a lot of competitive french lists that run 37-40 lands so I'm pretty confident that if you are in that range you will be great. If you find your self flooding try adding cycle lands and scry lands. They are only a small tempo loss but they give you flood insurance in the late game.

      It's good advice. I think sometimes it's easier to make something longer than shorter. I have watched a lot of deck techs where people just read their decklist and I wanted something more. I'm going to put out a 20 minute deck next week and see how it feels. I'd love more feedback. Cheers.

      I love this playstyle too. May I suggest my favorite deck -- Braids Conjurer Adept (ruclips.net/video/R0FZfSawZjU/видео.html). The only thing about that is, he included the white Archetype, which gives those 1/1 DT'ers first strike, which is more than enough to take on virtually anything because the opponent's creatures get hit first because of the first strike, and then die on the spot because of DT. There's also the diplomatic side to this deck which is very prominent, and Norn paints a big target on your back. If you can't protect her, the opponents are surely coming after you.

      I like your choice of disruption. Your inclusion of Darkness is pure style (I always run Darkness and Withering Boon in mono black decks). Great job!
      As for cards you can add, I believe that you need some more fast mana like signets. Restoration Angle and Zealous Conscripts can also combo with your Kiki-jiki and they are also just great cards on their own. Rest in Peace also combos with Helm of Obedience.
      I’m wondering if you can cut sneak attack? Or maybe your equipment package? Your creature count is really focused (only 12) and they seem to have utility rather than combat. If you are winning with a combo then you don't have to attack as much.
      Let me know how the deck plays!

    • @Leoninrus
      @Leoninrus 8 лет назад

      Thanks!
      Testing list is really hard, but i made some changes. Dont have enoth time to say everything about deck, but i trying to built great synergy of cards. And i will! =)
      Kiki is not only a combo (can be played with Village Bell-Ringer, its cheap and helpfull) but can be used for such technics as sacrifice for using Archangel Avacyn.
      Sneak Attack is a good for using it too, but also with Academy Rector in hand.
      Zealous Conscripts is good, but i dont know how to play with such big MC without any mana ramp. Deck need to have answers on different sorts of threats, some part of generals can be such threats by itself. Titania and etc. All MC in deck is about 2-3, and as you can see Avg. CMC is 2.52
      Rest in Peace!!!! My fault, i forgot about it. Really! For this card i will find a place. Thanks a lot!!!!
      Deck can win different ways. Control with our opponent concede, combo with helm or kiki, or just using our general with Equipment or even other creatures.
      Darkness is good! Now trying to see how Orim's Chant will work.
      So, i can say that this deck will have multiways to WIN, but i am working on it. =)

      I have a version of this deck. At it's heart it is a control deck without counterspells. I have had a hard time properly disrupting the more powerful decks but at an average table the deck performs well. It performs best during board stalls (the deck is designed to slow the game down) where your opponents are relying on combat. What kinds of decks do you usually face?

    • @simonecasolo3122
      @simonecasolo3122 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply! My meta is pretty casual not too much control: no infinite combos allowed and no PW. I have been trying to build a QM deck for a while but it is just "meh". • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад

      What do you like better Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath (tax life) or Ob Nixilis Unshackled (tax searching)?

    • @neverending5591

      +Jumbo Commander depends on the meta. If your meta is competitive Ob Nixilis, Unshackled can be a good pick.

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  8 лет назад

      Rafiq of the Many: I agree. If you have a group running lots of fetchlands Unshackled goes up a lot but in a newer group they won't always have tutor effects. Also in a less experienced meta I sometimes I feel like a dick when I cry out TRIGGER and dome them for 10 when they just forget about my little old demon. The best though is ambushing an opponent with it in response to their search (My Shadowborn Apostle deck is sweet)!

    I'm currently working on a sort of theme deck for Marchesa.
    I think playing Exquisite Blood on it's own doesn't automatically mean you're playing Bond and people know that. It's a good card on it's own so long as damage is being dealt where as Bond is only really good if it's in the combo or build around. Most players should know that and if not you could always just be clear up front before the start of the game you play Blood, but not Bond because that's stupid and you don't roll that way.
    I do find it odd that your reason for not including them is based on it being politically a bad move as people will zero in on you, but you you're playing two different grave pact effects. Pact effects are unfun as hell and absurdly unsymmetrically in multiplayer and any good player or table of players will grind you into dust if they know you're going to not just do life taxes and mana tax but being playing multiple pact effects in a deck with tokens. That seems just a unpolitical a decision as including Blood/Bond combo.
    Also...don't people get fucking tired of winning with Exsanguinate in basically every black EDH deck? It fits in this deck fairly well but I just so tired of that card. Same thing with Insurrection and Rise of the Dark Realms. There are so many win conditions in magic; why do we have to play the same few in each color in every EDH deck in those colors in a format that is supposed to be about variance, originality and deck identity?

    • @JumboCommander
      @JumboCommander  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the well thought out comment Nate. I think a lot of the differences we see is going to be based on our metagame and our playgroup. For the Blood & Bond combo I could include only one and my playgroup would believe me (so guys feel free to run one like Nate suggests) but I can't expect the same treatment everywhere. Also a disclaimer if I play one, I'm playing the other. I have no problems with this combo or other infinite combos. But when you have a powerful deck you need to have some self control when using it so everyone has fun (I have a video in the works on infinite combos so I'm kinda excited about the topic right now).
      The pact effects are really interesting and I'd like to talk about them because they are powerful for sure. I think, like I mentioned above, a lot has to do with who's at the table. If I'm playing against a voltron player he is going to hate that pact effect but the token player or the spells player might be really happy I kept good-old-voltron in check. One element that I have seen (again my meta) is that the average voltron player has their deck tuned to be ruthless and fast but in doing so left themselves fewer outs to an enchantment that punishes their strategy.
      For either of these two examples, if playing a powerful card is going to put you at a huge political disadvantage then the right decision might just be to keep them in your hand. Hopefully the deck has enough card draw to make up for this huge loss of a "dead" card. I find the different dynamics of a deck in relation to a table of commanders fascinating.
      Great point about these overused finishers. I think the mindset that enters into a lot of deck-builders' thoughts is: "I want to do something cool ... but I also want to have a chance at winning." So people "tack on" finishers that don't have a lot to do with the theme but they will free up other card slots. I think that people who "always win with craterhoof behemoth" might have a powerful deck but the qualities you listed " variance, originality and deck identity" make commander so satisfying win or lose.
      Thanks Nate. Again, very compelling response. This is what the comments are for! Cheers.
