The reason why steel wheels stayed around so long was that aluminum shattered if it hit the wall. I am very interested in how the new rims got around this.
Australian supercars have had aluminium wheels for years, they have been a control rim since 2010 and was increased to 18" back in 2013 (I think) broken wheels can happen but if you hit hard enough to do that then you will have broken something else as well

Jerimiah makes me want to become a engineer, I swear the way he explains this stuff makes it super easy to learn Edit: first nobody said being a engineer was easy, second why y’all hating so hard, I swear people in comments be assholes. Ok for you A’holes in the comments, I think Jerimiah is a good teacher, he makes someone that knows nothing about something, have insight into what he’s saying, for people that don’t know, he could be a great introduction to engineering teacher. It’s not easy to but he puts a lot of things into lamest terms, so people that’s here for the first time can understand.
Explaining general concepts will always be easier than doing the actual math. Once you're eyeball deep in physics and math classes it's probably less fun. (But still fun for people who like it, I guess? Yay engineers!)
As a die hard F1 fan who only a couple years ago added Indy Car to my following, you now have me convinced to give NASCAR a chance finally now as well. Great B2B as always!
Funnily enough I was the opposite order. Watched NASCAR religiously as a kid and slowly started watching Indy, then got into F1 just in time for the 21 season to start, and oh boy was that a great one to watch.
@@Zwidawurzn they’re moving to a more mixed road course/oval lineup this season so I’d think Nascar would sort of approach the type of stuff that goes on in GT3, but I don’t watch that much so I could be wrong

@@boeing777pilot5 yeah Gen 3 was meant to come in for this year but because of the Pandemic its impacted getting these things built and ready to go. Even though the mustang will be continuing after this year its being redesigned and alot of the aero is being taken off the cars.

I want the equivalent of USTCC-- US Touring Car Championship a la JTCC or BTCC or whatever. ACTUAL road cars with high homologation requirements. Like take a freaking 2022 camry/civic/escape/bolt/model 3/jetta/whatever, remove interior, add safety stuff, and tune the shit out of the stock motor. Include hybrids and electrics-- just let 'em go wild as long as it's the original frame/unibody and block. That'd be so fun. Add restrictions on fuel and/or tires to keep things fair and encourage efficiency/power balance. I wish I had a bajillion dollars to fund such a thing.
@@mcky_msh Don't think that would work so well with bump drafting and pack racing at super speedways. That's a lot of different shaped front and rear bumpers. There would have bumper and chassis modification to make the nose of the cars similar.

I love how f1 and nascar are changing for aerodynamics for "better and clean racing" which makes racing really intense and more fun to watch! Can't wait to see the cars out in action! 👍
f1 is made up cars. nascar is supposed to be modified production cars. not f1's lol. different fan base and different types of racing. not that i dont like f1's they are awesome.
@@mymarsrobot40 I think F1 is the peak of race engineering. Stock car racing as to be moulded and based around a existing model (which is okay) but I think theres something to be said about a competition where the best overall (cornering and straights) cars are allowed to race. I get Nascar has toyed with circuit racing but itll never be what F1 is. F1 is global. Its one of the most luxurious sports in the world where as Nascar is seen as "working class" (I say that just becuase of the reality of the sport, both realities suck. If I, the son of an immigrant working class would have wanted to race F1, it would have been impossible - which sucks...) But F1 will always be more interesting. I know its a running joke, but the left turn reality of Nascar just takes away so much of what racing is about. You make moves in the corners, something about going 150-200km/h through a corner and taking someeone over is thrilling to me, that nascar cant provide. I just find F1 to be much more exilerating, the drivers are the best in the world (in my opinion) and the racing is always class. I know politcs play a role, richest teams often compete for the top spots, but hopefully there will be more disparity next year with the new cars. Sorry I rambled lol, nobody will read this but that was just my opinion. I do appreciate your sentitment though. Like what you like, love what you love. Who am I to tell you Nascar is better or worse. Enjoy what you want. Its the beauty of being a human!
I'm very excited about the Clash race. It'll be cool to see these cars in a different venue. The Coliseum racing on iRacing has been crazy. 2022 is going to be a great year for NASCAR.
I disagree. I think it's too tight in the turns. It's worse than Martinsville and I think it'll be very one laned making it either a bumper car race or a train race. Iracing is full of unprofessional. NASCAR is full of guys who can't afford to wreck these cars right now.
NASCAR is clearly working towards having road races in their calendar. Which would be pretty cool if you think about it; big oval track, cars ripping around it, shoot out of the stadium down some road course, back into the stadium. Or, just alternating oval track races with road races. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday!
I think that's how the roval at New Hampshire Motor Speedway works, it circles around the outside of the track and actually has some decent elevation changes
These changes are DEFINITELY going to cost NASCAR some fans, but I’m DEFINITELY willing to watch it now, particularly on road courses. I bet they gain a few more than they lose.
@@charlesincharge.5161 while road courses have more corners, on ovals its a lot of work to not only be precise to keep the optimal line over a large corner, you also make tons of micro adjustments to keep the car on line. Both styles are a lot of work for different reasons.
Yeeeeah thats just simply not true, multiple corners is more work. Plain and simple. Every corner requires micro changes to keep the perfect line so multiple corners = more work. Also set up requires far more work when dealing with multiple corners..
Did we have to mention electric cars? Imagine going to a NASCAR race with all electric vehicles. You could whisper to your friend next to you. How exciting.
It’s still not stock car racing. I want actual mustangs, Camaros, camerys, and Chargers going around the track. Otherwise, I’m just going to keep going to my local drag strip, because those are real cars. I want to see a ZL1, a gt 500 , and a red eyed hell cat race. If nascar wants me to watch, then do that.
I've been a lifelong NASCAR fan, but started getting into F1 about 5ish years ago, and full time in 2020. Indycar too since about 2005. Really the fighting between the racing leagues is dumb. The more racing options I have, the better! No series is better than the other, they're just different and it’s the charm that each have that make them all equally fun to watch for me
I'd love to see a video like this about the upcoming IndyCar Season. I'm from Germany and it's going to be my first ever season following the sport after I've already been a huge F1 Fan for years. Starting this year, all the way through 2024, it's running on the biggest Sports Channel we have here with Sky so hopefully they can get some grip in the fanbase over here as well.
I'll elaborate on this. The Busch Clash had been held every year at Daytona since it started on 1979 and is a big part of Speedweeks leading up to the Daytona 500. Not only is it not at Daytona for the first time ever but it's not a part of Speedweeks this year. That's why the moving the Busch Clash to the LA Coliseum is not a popular decision.
Thoughts on it being a 1/4 mile track? The turns look TIGHT. Is it going to be just a lot of slow moving traffic? If so, that would represent LA very well - maybe throw in a 20 lap bumper to bumper crawl behind a hypermiling Prius pace car?
Race cars that more resemble the cars we can buy and drive? Looks like "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" is making a comeback! Another great vid Jer! ...that shirt tho.
Who remembers when b2b was only one car they broke down everything from one bumper 2 the other bumper then they would start it up and we could hear the beautiful motor rumble 😢
I really miss that, and I always wanted it to be more detailed (think Doug DeMuro, except actually fun) , but I like this too. Maybe just call a spade a spade and change the name of this show to Science Garage. I think we can accept Bart's gone for good at this stage, and with someone as good as Jeremiah instead it's a very worthy replacement for original Science Garage. And then also get *actual* Bumper to Bumper back on, and look at some real physical goddamn cars from one bumper to the other, like you used to. Or, alternate. One week is sciencey and themed, the next is what makes a particular car interesting. Doesn't have to be a super awesome car, either, it could be a piece of shit (a final model Thunderbird would be a great subject for this) and the episode is about why it's a piece of shit; with the awesome hosts Donut has, that could be very entertaining. Maybe have the sciencey episode play into the following car tour, e.g. the week after Jerry talks twinchargers, we look at a twincharged car. Or maybe Up To Speed ought to take the role of oldschool Bumper to Bumper. When James is talking about a great car's story, he can give us a tour of it at the same time, not unlike Jason Cammisa's Revelations series on Hagerty (except James is funnier).
@@Maverick9k Most of these things bring them closer to "stock". Alloy wheels and independent rear suspension are mainstays in stock cars these days. I grew up watching NASCAR and Australian V8 Supercars. 2020 and all the isolation at home got me back into both so hard, especially NASCAR. A video showing how similar and different the the two series are now would be amazing. Seems to me like NASCAR is following the AV8SC trends with sequential gearboxes and etc.
Still, 5 lugs is what distinguishes NASCAR from every other motorsports series. It'll be hard to live without hearing the frantic whirring of the pit guns
I love Nascar AND Formula. Both for different reasons. Grew up a hard core Nascar fan so I can appreciate the difficulty of turning left non-nascar fans wont understand. Yet. When I saw the logistical dance the Formula series has to perform on top of the highly technicality of the car, hooked me on a different level Nascar can. But they are both fun to watch.
I'm not a fan. But I can imagine that turning left, while racing like a maniac (it's so tight and crowdy!!) At 250km/h can be "a bit" tricky :P Where I live in Poland we have "żużel". It's also an oval speedway but on motocross and not on tarmac but on special kind of slag (mostly from from the coal mine :) It's very popular also in Czech republic, UK, Denmark and Sweden.
Both F1 and NASCAR have ruined themselves over the past decade or so. So you are looking forward to a lesser version of what both racing leagues once were. Go watch old videos and you will see for yourself or ask long-time fans. The F1 organization is more corrupt than World Cup Soccer/Football, and NASCAR sold itself to the woke corporations. Enjoy? Both series are part of my Sunday routine and I don't like when one series thinks they are superior to the other. F1 is the Pinnacle, but tbh, nascar is more fun to watch with more battles on track
I agree the on track battles in nascar are more often, but the on track battles in F1 feel so much more intense. Just knowing that the slightest tap could mess everything up. I love nascar more tho because I feel it provides better racing. And I guess that's just my southern coming out lol

Donut media is like the hip car company we've always wanted: *some godly content, amazing ideas, awesome ads, AND the chillest hosts you've ever seen (just like the CEOs in the company!)*
I think the best move NASCAR can make from here is to race at some more diverse tracks, like racing at some more challenging short tracks ( 0.5 - 1 mile) and maybe even a few flat tracks, just make the racing harder and more exciting for drivers and fans.
It's also a bit sad that it's the end of an era but exciting that they're moving to a 5-speed sequential gearbox this year when before it was a 4-speed H-pattern. It'll probably make road course lap times even faster
We’ll probably never see anything close to a stock body again, but I’d like to see a return to stock engines. All three constructors have perfectly good V8s ready to go. They don’t have to be bone-stock. They can still use titanium rods and whatnot, I mainly just want to see stock blocks, fuel systems, and maybe heads. Who wouldn’t want to see how the latest LT stacks up to the Toyota UR, or the Coyote fares against both? Returning to stock-ish engines would also lower costs for race teams and the barrier to entry for constructors. Lower costs and the ability to use existing engines (rather than frankensteining a pushrod like Toyota had to do when they got involved) would make the series more attractive to other manufacturers. Seeing Honda enter some sort of twin-turbo V6 would be sick. Don’t poo-poo it. You loved it when Buick did it in the ‘80s, and Honda has a long and successful history in just about every other realm of motorsports. Nissan is technically making the RB series again. How amazing would it be to see the spiritual return of the car that earned the GT-R its Godzilla nickname? That was in a series fairly similar to NASCAR, the Australian Touring Car Championship, where it won three straight constructors’ championships in the early ‘90s. The rules could be like they were in F1 for a while, with different limits on displacement for NA and turbo engines to even it out.

I personally would want a 1.25 to 1 bore to stroke ratio for 5.9L/360 cubic inches(105.4mm/4.150inch bore and 84.5mm/3.325inch stroke) or a 1.3 to 1 bore to stroke ratio for 5.5L/335.5 cubic inches(104.4mm/4.110inch bore and 80.3mm/3.160inch stroke). Both would allow for a aluminum block, for better handling and better cooling for drafting. The current 5.9L V8's redline is 8500rpm(could be 11,000 rpm with an exorbitant budget), though for a 5.5L V8 it should be 9000rpm. Also a 5.5L V8 would be the same limit as in IMSA and WEC.

Horsepower restrictions were added when flipping cars got dangerously close to plowing through seating areas, especially on speedway tracks with minimal turns and high banking. On road courses, top speeds are generally lower, so there can be less restrictions.

I recommend taking a tour if your ever in NC!!
Jeremiah we want motorcycle content on donut media ❤️🙂
Definitely!! That would be great
You mean Motorcylce.
The real question is, will the Next-Gen NASCAR be in GT7 to play at Daytona Speedway?!
Hopefully
I’ve watched nascar my whole life. After COT & staging and playoffs nascar forgetting it’s roots I fell out of nascar. I do watch F1 now which is odd because when I was young I thought cars that never seem to pass each other or be able to lean on each other that wasn’t racing. Boy I had no clue about F1 as I love that sport now.
You know what would make NASCAR interesting for the first time in 40 years? Homologation rules.
Exactly what i want to see. Id love to see GT500 mustang or challenger demon to be a homologation car, not just a badging
@@drhanifp they just announced a GT3 spec Mustang wit 2 factory cars and a minimum of 20 customers cars for IMSA sportscar racing. Drop a Camaro and Challenger GT3 into the mix and now your are getting somewhere.
Remember the good old days when teams could innovate without all these restrictions? No one will *EVER* break Bill Elliott's 1987 Talladega speed record of 212.8 MPH. No one is allowed to even try to innovate to that level anymore.
I do think they should get off teams nuts about messing with the cars, cheating these days isnt even crazy anymore its just tuning officials don't like
Back then they played around with restrictor plates in the carburetor.
Best intro ever. Thank you for the subtitles! That's up there with pop up up and down headlights.
tldr: nascar is finally incorporating tech/features that every other real race series has been doing for the last 20+ years
NASCAR isn’t getting weird, it’s getting desperate. They’re still beating the bubba smollet incident for publicity snd have done everything in their power to pissss off their core fan base
And I can see why, look what happened to Brandon Brown proves this point.
Grew up watching NASCAR as a kid, then got into F1, Lemans, Dakar, Baja as I got older. Glad to see NASCAR finally evolving out of the Stone Age.
They based this track off my home track Bowman Gray Stadium and yes it's literally a track around a football field this track is a little different but they tested these new cars at Bowman Gray Stadium to get a feel for how they would be at this track but in my opinion this race is going to be a Cluster F***
You have a legendary name
@@Eduardo_Espinoza I don't really think so but thank you
@@brandonhayes6764 You haven't heard of Hayes Brakes!?
Finally you’re doing Nascar videos again, I’ve had enough of you destroying F1
@@slampimp don’t replay just report them. Reply’s make them think it’s working and they make more bots.
Don’t worry the FIA is still around to destroy it
@@NR_88 Yeah no it’s liberty media who are destroying it.
This is what i been waiting for. Its gonna be a nascar sponsored demolition derby. If this dosent excite you nothing will.
id hit that
That had it, it was called Bristol. Then they changed it
This has me interested in giving NASCAR another chance. I am actually looking forward to seeing if the racing is interesting now. Especially with the new look of the cars and NASCAR finally bringing in some new tech.
3:44. Is the best part of all this. Video. That tire has a mind of her own.
3 minutes in. Donut please do up to speed on the hudson hornet.
good to see nascar is finally embracing modernity. maybe we can see 1 day where german dtm machine going head to head with nascar.
Growing up watching NASCAR and F1 got me feeling like Thanos
Formula 1 has been my favorite for a few years while now. But besides IMSA, I don't watch any other series. I knew all about NASCAR cause I'm an American motorhead, but until these recent changes I was never interested. If NASCAR becomes more like IMSA or F1, I definitely find it more appealing. Still too many ovals though.
I’m also a Nascar and F1 fan. As long as it has good old ICE engines on them it is worth. Let’s enjoy before everything becomes Formula E…
NASCAR will never sound the same in the pit lane…
Can't wait to watch Brandon Brown race this year! Let's go Brandon!!
I'm gonna be rooting for Brandon this season. Let's go Brandon!
