    To me this system review is more valuable than individual component reviews, especially when it's so hard for us to go out and test with our own ears what set-up gives that great "synergy" that you can find just as part of your daily experience.

    Great video concept. Not enough reviewers/seasoned audiophiles break down system-matching. This is a hard concept for newcomers to wrap their head around, especially having very limited experience with different brands and their different products.

    Nice one Jay. These system reviews are a great help for a noob like me. People can get up and running without even breaking a sweat. I know time is of essence, but a sound demo in the end would cover it all. Just an idea, since your reviews are great as they are. With a demo though, impeccable

    Hi Jay. Truly enjoyed your take on a full system. FYI on your recommendation, I just purchased the DOGE 7 Clarity DAC to connect it to my, you guessed it, NODE 2i. Great device but the DAC inside this streamer just doesn't give me the imaging or soundstage that I love. I know the Denafrips and Holo Audio DACs are amazing, but I do have a budget. Would appreciate any comments or observations. Keep making these awesome videos!!!!

I like that warm, and laid back sound. Tell me what you think. Also, keep up the great work, I think your channel will grow quite nicely.

    This r800 looks so tempting. I've never seen a tube integrated with tube rectification in the front end, it must be novel at this price point. Although it looks very much like the Line Magnetic l805, not surprising as they're made in the same factory.

    Thanks Jay for inviting us along with you and and your musical journey. Last week I paired the Heaven 11 Billie amp with the Perfect Set (2-10's). I only had the amp for two days before I sent it back (30 day trial period ended). I played Spotify through Bluetooth. I experienced the presentation as grainy, laid back, lacking in presence (kept wanting more despite turning up the volume). I next paired the Tekton's with a PeachTree Nova300 (usb connection through my iPhone). The presentation was sweet (tube like) with decent resolution. Given the right speaker placement the bass was tight, balanced (relative to the upper frequencies), but I wouldn't call it powerful. Treble lacked sparkle and shimmer. In terms of the soundstage, everything is presented behind the speakers. I'm going to try the PS Audio Strata next. I'm hoping for better treble, more powerful bass, and voices/instruments that jump out at me.

      Did you find the right amp for the 2-10 Perfect Set?

    • @keastcw
      @keastcw 2 года назад +1

      @@JPWinters Hello JP.
      I settled on the Willsenton R8, which is a stellar amplifier at its price point. I found the R8 more lively and articulate relative to the PeachTree Nova. The PS Audio Strata was also a big step up from the Nova. However, at the end of the day I prefer the warmth and beguiling midrange of tubes over solid state. And the Tekton’s sensitivity (95 Decibels) pair well with low watt tube amplifiers like the R8.
      A year into ownership I’m looking to replace the Tektons with a horn loaded speaker and am saving up for the purchase. The Tekton’s have been a lot of fun to live but have certain limitations.

  • @westernartifact580
    @westernartifact580 3 года назад

    This is an interesting approach and I like it. Have to say though that your statement about solid state being better at imaging than tubes is news to me. Generally, it’s the opposite, and more specifically, when you take certain tube amps you will get the very best holographic imaging (by a long ways too).

    I have the Bluesound Node 2i connected to Schiit Modius - a pretty affordable DAC. Compared to the internal DAC of the Bluesound I found the Modius opened up the sound a bit with more high end extension and tighter bass. With the Modius there was more separation between instruments and the stereo image felt wider. I wasn't expecting such a noticeable difference and the and if I had never tried using an external DAC I would have thought the bluesound sounded fine. If anything I found the Bluesound's internal DAC to be a bit muffled in comparison. I can only imagine what upgrading to an even more high end DAC would do for the sound.

    Jay,
    I bought the Tekton 2-10 Perfect Set (bi-wired version) a few months ago and when I first put them into my system (replacing KEF LS50's), they were ear-bleedingly shrill. Sibilance was uncontrolled. After about 400 hours of break in, it was a totally different story - smooth as silk! They are delightful.
    That may be the issue you encountered and blamed on the amp - although tube amps frequently need lots of break in, too.
    The BlueNote, however, is a poor source to feed to the Tektons. Simpy not in the same league. If you're trying to hit that price point, take a look at the Orchard Audio Pecan Pi. Much better streamer performance for the money. The Innuos is a much better match to the Tektons, of course at a higher price.
    All the best,
    Doug

    You should include prices and up the production values like a Darco or Sean video. You would be the only one doing that. Entry level streamers with a decent DAC seem to be rare as well. Review some please.
