"What is this? What color are you?" LOL! This video just cracked me up. I hear you about the outlets; only having two outlets in our family room drove my mother crazy all the years she lived in that house. When my hubs and I bought our house, the first thing she noticed was all the outlets we had. True story!
I like the 'dead space' in the kitchen, because it gives it an open, airy and spacious feel. If every space was filled in it wouldn't look so welcoming. I always find myself walking into the things too close to door openings. I agree about the wardrobe. But the house is so beautiful. It belongs in a magazine.
In that big space by the fridge, could you have a plant wall where you grow salad vegetables and herbs with LED lights? Great for your health, saves money on imported veggies and pretty greenery to look at! Thanks for another great video Cecilia, totally with you on the electric plug sockets too! 😉✨
I had the same thought! Definitely plants - HERBS! - with grow lights. Or have you ever heard of Aerogardens? I grow herbs and lettuces with those and they have their own lights. I feel your pain on the sockets.
just my 2 cents, I agree with everyone who has said the white trim in the bathroom looks perfect with the sink/shower and changing it may make the walls look too dark. The second is the silver trim on the stairs also looks perfect. Black would stick out too much and white trim may need cleaning all the time since it's getting walked on all the time.
3:29 I personally like "dead spaces" as they provide a transition. Of course you want to utilize space wisely, but a little dead space, especially between areas like you have makes the area transition less busy, calming.
Actually I really like the white trimming in the bathroom, otherwise it would be too dark. Otherwise, everything else you pointed out made sense. Thanks for sharing so future home owners or renovators can learn from your missteps
I do like the white trimming on the black windows in the bathroom, especially with the white sinks and the white shower outline. It gives just the right amount of white and does not break the atmosphere, especially since around the windows it does not matter since light will come in, the white will just enhance the natural light falling in. If you make everything else black it's just an abyss?
Thanks for sharing your lessons learned and tips! I think all of this would come with experience and once should be the first time. You have done really great! Doesn’t mean it can feel and be frustrating, I am with you on that. I do feel that the extra space in the kitchen gives a calm and luxurious feel to it but definitely make use of one of the open spaces at the end of the kitchen. Good plans and ideas! In the meanwhile the beautiful wooden doors have been installed 🎉, its beautiful. A tip is to use a multiple socket plug, you can put it in the draw and only take it out when you need it. They have very compact ones these days. Oh and the countertops are soooo beautiful and the windows are amazing!!! All the right decisions Cecilia. Big Hug ❤
Cecilia you are my comfort channel from my existential panic attacks. thank you , i don’t think you realize quite what you do to help other humans with your videos. all love to you 🦋🤍🥲☺️
Outlets! Yes. When we redid our kitchen I told the construction people in no uncertain terms that we were going to have the outlets we wanted. The builder said "That is not part of the price I quoted you." We said... We don't care, do it anyway, we will pay for it. I am sooooooo glad we did. Even with how many we specified, we should have done one more group. I look back to when we had a single outlet before the remodel. It was crazy. When in doubt, add more outlets, you will be happy you did.
Exactly. So many things in the kitches need outlets. Even if they don't draw much power, they need power. All the phones and device chargers. All kinds of cooking stuff like coffee makers, air fryers, toasters, etc.. Put in GFI and lots of outlets, you will find you use them.
Figure how many kitchen outlets you think you need, multiply by 4 then add another half dozen... Seriously, put in 4 individual outlets per unit rather than the standard two per box. Run them on separate circuits to avoid overload.
Two things. 1. For the space beside the fridge and the cooktop stove, I would put a cabinet beside one, but not the other. If both sides had cabinets, I’m afraid that the walk space would be too skinny. 2. That main door can be moved without doing any extra framing. It is already framed what looks like a 1/2 meter to the right. The builders just didn’t want to do the little extra work.
Love your cabin! Just a thought about moving the extra heater. If I were to move it, I wouldn’t put it next to the other one. I would put it in the new tv room, that way it would help to spread the heat around the colder areas in the cabin better.
I agree. The current fireplace looks so gorgeous in the main living room. Adding the other one right next to it would look a little weird and compromise the aesthetic of the already beautiful space. But putting it in the tv room would space out the heating structure and still hopefully spread the heat to the main living room area. 👌🏾
I quite like the white trims against the black in the bathroom. I think making it all black would make the space feel smaller and heavier, the white really breaks it up and makes it look really cool!
First of all you have a beautiful home. Secondly I felt like it was me doing this video. I totally hear you. I think you nailed it when you said you have to trust your instincts and go with your gut. Sometimes trades people are like I don't want to add extra outlets cuz it's a pain for me but if you want the extra outlets you insist and you keep insisting because you're paying and you get what you want. Finally I think some of the things can be fixed if they really really bother you. You have some options. Best wishes for 2023!!! I look forward to watching many more of your videos. Keep up the excellent work. Greetings from Canada.
I'm astonished that with your personality anyone could persuade you to change your plans. I mean this in a nice way as you always seem to know your own mind. Maybe a slobby chair or two in the kitchen? Enjoyed your vid.
Bravo to your sponsor. What a great cause. We all love Grim, and this charity is such an expression of generosity and compassion. Dogs enrich human lives in immeasurable ways.
Love this channel 😍 thanks for keeping all the things real, Cecelia is a hoot and Christoffer is so sweet! Corners can be filled with some simple things.... A corner book case (for all your books), or some fake green (that look real) plants.... Bring some greenery all year round... I'm sure you will fill the 'gaps' with the right things 💛🌻💛
I feel you so much!!!!! I rebuilt my apartment and even tough I had a vision and lot of specific ideas, I relied to much on professionals and did as they suggested because I didn’t want to make mistakes and trusted them more than myself.. But you know what? 6 months in and I wish I followed exactly my vision!!! It is only small details, because on the biggest things I’ve been very firm, but still… never trust someone only because it’s their job! Because they for sure know what to do, but they can never know what is best and works for you! 😊
When you have people over, I find they often gather around in the kitchen, especially with that beautiful island. That ‘dead space’ you mention would be lively at such a time!
Add a mounted power strip under the kitchen windows that will help with lack of outlets. Our house is 115 years old and I know that I always seem to need outlets!
you are so right, you can never have too many electricity outlets, especially in the kitchen as to you comments on the "wasted space" at the end of the island, I would disagree - it makes for a very airy circulation space
I really love the way your cabin turned out! For the closet in your hallway: Maybe you could change the inside of the closet so that your jackets don't hang sideways but front facing (if you know what i mean?), and for easy access there might be a solution like clothes rail that you can pull out. Greetings from Germany, I really hope to visit Svalbard in future!
I have moved all over the U.S. over the last 45 years; I've lived in a 220 year old house, a 100 year old house, built 3 homes from the ground up, and currently live in my parent's former home (built in 2000). None were perfect! It's always been easy to see the things I'd love to change, but something always stops me (usually cost). You have other obstacles living on Svalbard:) One thing about the empty space in your kitchen is that if you decide to have children that area will make a nice play space for little ones and their cars/trucks, etc.
Woow, so a 220 year old house still exists in the US? Here in Europe we have a lot of them but it seems like those are usually taken down in the US (could be my impression though😄🍀)
@@Tuinierenopstrobalen lots of older houses in the U.S. I lived in a funeral home built in 1790 (so I was wrong- it's actually 232 years old!). It was the oldest house in our lttle town in Pennsylvania.
@@bethdaly8079 that is amazing! I love old buildings! I hope it will be around for a long time, historical buildings are important in my opinion, they breathe wisdom🍀.
Cecilia, this was a great video. Your kitchen is beautiful, but you were right, NEVER enough outlets! We all learn from experience. You two will figure it out. Thanks for sharing.
I understand your frustration! You learn A LOT on your first build. The corner trim in bathroom is really easy to replace. A good designer will specify trim and color on the plans, but unless the designer/ architect is also genereal contracting, they have no control over what the builder does with the plans. You have to keep on top of the builders. They tend to want to do the same thing in every house and will shame you for being creative and precise and even for wanting good work done. I don't understand why they don’t want to do what customers actually want. They wear you down. You also have to be easily available to them throughout the build. It's not easy to General Contract your own project. If the entry door continues to bug you, you CAN redo it. I find fixing those sorts of things brings me peace and you're obviously someone who appreciates beauty and good design. The builder should have centered it. It's obvious from seeing it the video. I'm an interior designer. A creative builder who can listen and who likes to communicate and ask directions is worth their weight in gold. You pay them well and hang on to them. It takes a special builder, electrician, plumber to work well with interior designers, architects, and discerning, creative clients. I'm not impressed by your electrician. I design kitchens. You ALWAYS want "too many" outlets in your kitchen. ALWAYS. Every decent electrician knows that. Sometimes they get tired and want to go home. Many also tend to argue more with women than they do men. They don't seem to be able to help themselves. It's sometimes simpler to have an imposing male available who can step in on your and the build's behalf.
This looks amazing how it turned out! I actually think it’s nice to have the washer/dryer separate from the bathrooms; this way you separate the space for it’s intended purpose. A bathroom is a bathroom, and the laundry room is for laundry. For the stairs silver trimming, you can just paint over it with a lacquer, and then seal it just use painters tape to protect the flooring. It would take maybe 2 hours to do…
This was so interesting, and I know, extremely helpful for anyone getting ready to build an addition, or build a house. I understand all of the details you presented, how you would have done them differently. One thing I got, was that the workers, or contractor, was not listening to you. Would not listen to you. You were insistent on more outlets, and other items where the contractor, who I think was just very lazy and wanted to talk you out of your requests. Heck, you're paying him to do a job! Anyways, your cabin is adorable, and I truly admire how you and Christopher keep it so neat and clean and tidy, Love your videos!!! From Texas...were we have loads of space and loads of dirt....
Cecilia I've gotta say there's something about u that I just get, maybe we have a very similar personality, I could talk to u all day long😁🤣. I absolutely love the dogs, cabin, boat ur whole lifestyle so I just want to Thankyou for allowing me into ur life. U make me smile and bring interesting content to the rest of the us, u live in an amazing, spectacular, sometimes harsh part of the world and I really enjoy ur passionate energy. 🇦🇺🐕🐶🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💖 oh and yeh to the barn doors I think their so romantic and u can so build them urself
Perhaps when you are ready for some remodeling, you travel to the mainland and pick everything out in person and then arrange to have it shipped back home. Except for the backup heater, everything can be changed. Even the door can be moved and more electrical outlets can be installed, more cabinets added to the kitchen. You can add another section to the island, perhaps a different height with built in shelving of built in wine fridge?
I know you probably love your cabin now and hopefully care less about the "mistakes" but I needed to comment and say I've recently found your channel and the thing that kept me hooked instantly was how beautiful your cabin is. Especially the kitchen and living room. I wanted to find more videos showing the cabin, that's how stunning it is 😍
You can change the empty spaces next to the fridge or the stove into a coffee station, and you would be surprised with a little bit of paint could do for the trimming that you don't like you can mix colors to get the exact color that you're looking for and it would make a difference and no one else would notice.
Cecilia, so understand your thoughts about the cabin build. I merely renovated and had some moments of "I want to do this" that I was talked out of that, now that I am living here every day, I kick myself for not insisting on those things that I was talked out of by experts!
When another youtuber I subscribe to (Anton Somewhere) did a video on traveling to Svalbard, I kept looking to see if you were in the background at all.
The only real mistake I see is the placement of the second heat source. I agree with one commentator, placing it in or near the TV room or even the office makes the most sense. Everything else is so minor. And you could easily add more counters or shelving in the kitchen, either pre-made or a small job for a contractor. It's a wonderful place.
You have a lovely home. From all the other building regret videos I have seen and the consideration that you live in a remote island your regrets are very minor. I know they still are frustrating but trust me the perfect house does not exist and all those little imperfections also give its own unique quirky personality.
Great video. All of the things you noted are absolutely spot on. Like really, what were they thinking? Cutting corners? Listen to your gut feeling, lesson learned, not the end of the world, but understandably a great source of annoyance. Best from Canada..
Just going to say I love your kitchen. TFS your frustrations and regret but you have such an amazing view and you did a wonderful job - -granted I could not live there myself (my joints are too damaged from RA and many many years of being a petite ICU nurse with this illness moving people 200- 600 lbs & most of time with minimal help) But be blessed and stay blessed Cecelia. I cannot imagine leaving Portugal was easy for you either. But home is where your heart is- its so true. ☺️
If you're going to move that other woodburner, I'd suggest putting it in the corner of the space you use for your office, which is effectively an open walk-through space. Others have suggested moving it into the TV room, but if it's in a small room it'll be hard for the heat to circulate throughout the rest of the cabin. Btw I think you did an amazing job on the cabin!
Hello!! Just a few of my thoughts...The "dead space" in the kitchen makes it feel more open. and I think thats worth it! I'm sure you could find a use for it! a little sitting nook, or a tiny table? Ooo Put a tall bookshelf on the end of the counter and it will add height! just an idea! Could you switch to hooks or something within the hallway closet? rather than coat hangers? i know those coats are bulky tho... also.. ugh to the electrician. That sucks! no one was advising us on our kitchen design and we selected a 30 inch gas range stove... no one tells you visually that it looks best to have a 36 inch stove with a 30 inch vent hood or just space for the vent hood above so it doesnt look boxed in by the upper cabinetry. still beautiful, but now I will stare at it the rest of my life and wonder what could have been hahaha Guess i have to wait 20 years for the next reno! Love the way your house came out. I think its the "mistakes" that force us to be creative and then it makes the house special.
I think the main thing to change is the heater, so you can be comfortable. The house is still very beautiful even with all the shortcomings you pointed out. Thank you. 🦭
It always brightens my day when you post another video Cecilia. The cabin looks awesome! Thank you and your cute family for sharing your lives with us from the top of the world. Because of you and your videos, Svalbard is on my bucket list for places I need to go to before i die.
This is how we learn as painful as it is sometimes. It teaches us to speak up let someone know nicely it is our choice not theirs. I'm with you on the outlet irritation. As for the area where you wanted a pantry not a heater, I was thinking if you had shelves cut into the wall it would be a way for heat to flow, whether it is from your wood stove or from the gas heater. It would be less costly than moving it.
You could put the indoor water cooler you were talking about between the fridge and bathroom door! That's a perfect space for that. And, you could use the heater space to dry clothes and warm coats in the winter and ...save propane by using the propane dryer less? I don't actually know which would be less expensive....
The white trim compliments your bathroom wall color perfectly bringing it a little bit of light and it also matches your shower and vanity etc. I think it's perfect in my opinion. Also in regards to builders and contractors talking you out of something you want I honestly think it stems from the fact that they don't want to do it because it's more work. Don't let them dissuade you from things you really want even if it takes more time.
The off set door,..when we built our home, the front door was to be centered and right below the upstairs window for balance. It was off by 8 inches and we had to argue with them to fix it. I'm happy we did. Details...yes pay attention to them. Our builder must have gotten a box of beige outlets and switches on sale as that is what we ended up with (I was pregnant and very ill and didn't notice until we had moved in). Someday we will change them, LOL. I do love the windows in your kitchen, such an amazing view! 🥰
That extra space is useful as a space. It looks like if someone pulled out the nearest chair that there would be a comfortable amount of room to go around. If holding a party and people are standing and some sitting there is a comfortable amount of space. If you wanted to do yoga and look out that this a good space. That room is very open and airy , you don't have that many extra feet. If you wanted another function with that space I'm sure you could do it. I usually like to have a bunch of hang out spaces. You also have to look at the extra cost of things like a larger island. I think it worked out great.
I can’t imagine not being able to run down to Home Depot or Lowe’s for an item. Despite its “flaws” your home is beautiful and it’s yours. My home is unfinished but I’m grateful for what I have. Well done!
I guess there are bound to be little things that you would have done differently. It's so difficult though until you live in the space. I had my kitchen done a few years ago and asked for electrical sockets everywhere! So glad I did as it means you have flexibility to move appliances around and you don't have wires trailing everywhere.
That electrician was wild. I've always heard electricians encouraging people to put more outlets in because legit in a kitchen you can never have too many outlets.
I don't have enough electrical outlets in my kitchen either but I just unplug what I'm not using like my kettle or coffee maker and plug in what I want to use. You could also move your google home base somewhere else in the house an that would give you another outlet to plug stuff into. It sucks not to have enough electrical plugs especially when you asked for them. I think your cabin looks fantastic!
As for the extra space, there will be days when you are indoors all the time, and the extra space will feel great-it will help the feeling of walls closing in. My advice is leave it empty.
Yea. The little details make the difference. But unless you buy from specialized shop at high price, I think most things come in silver and white. I would say that the white around the windows fits with the withe of the shower and the cabinets. But I agree with you about the plugs, you never have enough. Your place is very pretty, it seems like you have a lot of space and storage despite the empty spaces and complaining about too much empty space that’s not that bad. I watch Trent & Allie and their house they also designed themselves is just too small and to me claustrophobic. Your place just looks airy. Very pretty!
FYI, as long as the electric line runs along that lower wall where you wanted them, you can add outlets. Just cut out enough space to access the line and install the outlet. I’ve moved outlets in my house doing that. Tell that guy how unhappy you are and ask him to come back and add the outlets.
Cheers Cecilia, it’s Sean in Atlanta! Your new addition to your home is beautiful and while I agree with you on so many of the issues you have raised, you should now just be happy with the beautiful rooms that you have. Hindsight is always 20/20 and you have made a comment a couple of times about trusting your gut. That is so true! Even though you didn’t know whether or not it would work out, you felt that it would and now in hindsight you know that it would! But, it’s a beautiful addition and has given you the room that you two really need, excuse me you three and sometimes you four, really need! The heater issue is probably the most important because that looks dangerous to me as it actually burns wood and is in such a tightly enclosed space. While it will cost you a little money, that should be moved right away before winter sets in. Thank you for another wonderful video and I’m so happy that I discovered your channel a couple of years ago and I Look forward to every new episode that you present. Take care, and thanks again for a wonderful video! Sean
Have moved so many times and have learned to never skimp on lighting and electrical sockets; especially in the kitchen and bathroom, but also the pantry, wardrobe/closet, under stairs closet, basement, attic/loft. Also any external work, such as changing windows/doors, adding eaves, balcony, porch, deck - anything within that roofline - put your money there if you can as those are much harder, expensive and dirtier to add afterwards. Still nothing will give you the perfect house - I think you have done so well given your unusual circumstances! 😊
The white trimmings in the bathroom are a good vibe IMO as they bring a little light into the room. It makes the windows look like paintings as well. You could do a trunk style storage unit to the right side of the former bedroom door - you could f.e. store Grim's food in it and it would serve as an extra seat as well. That way it wouldn't look out of place even when it's not the same stone as your counter tops. For a quick solution to the electric outlets not being enough you could get a divider that plugs straight into the wall. The space at the end of the kitchen island - I wouldn't change it as that's where people will have room to stand when you're having people over. Looking at the videos from your parties it's actually very useful space when entertaining as the kitchen might otherwise feel a bit crowded and people would constantly have to mind the stairs. But pantry - everybody needs one in their kitchen! I don't know what that architect was on about as that looks like a very good space to put a pantry in.
The dead space gives the feel of openess. I agree with moving of the heater and putting in a pantry. That space has plenty of space for a pantry. The one thing you ran into is lazy builders who just wanted to be . It was not a problem moving the door while everything was open. The electrician seemed lazy too or chauvinistic, unfortunately, this may have been the time for Christopher to step in and say more outlets. But in all your place turned out beautifully.
Thank you for sharing your life in Svalbard, but I think I can safely say that we are all really tuning-in to see Grimm and Finn show :)) More of those two, please!
Just thoughts; if you see a builder starting to build something off Center, say something IMMEDIATELY so they can redo it. I recently had a door put in that the builder did not center by half a foot but I could see it from the road! I had him reframe the whole thing. Sorry but that’s my base expectation. If you really want you can have your builder reframe your front door. They are likely responsible to fix issues within the year. Also; have your electrician add the outlets. Snaking two outlets is not hard. That’s an easy fix! The extra “space” in the kitchen, you may have regretted filling in all the room with cabinets as there would have been no “white space” and it would have felt claustrophobic. You can add plants or open floating shelves without deleting the open feel. Oh and you inspired me to do my own build!
In the US when you a build or remodel a kitchen you have to have outlet on every wall , large walls every 3 feet apart by code - I love my kitchen in Northern California 🇺🇸I have a tons of outlets 🎬your house is beautiful and the view is spectacular 😎
This exact thing happened to me. I’ll say it~ as a woman the men say, no you don’t need that. Almost every issue, you said you said something but they didn’t listen. My last upgrade, I asserted myself and said, yes I do want that, so the bathroom is perfect. I wish I was heard for the other bathroom and other projects!
Loved this commentary on your build. I’ve just finished building and everything you say is so true!! It’s the fine details you don’t ever think of that are noticeable and things others tell you to change that you wish you didn’t that are so annoying! I totally get it! The cabin is fantastic thou and I’m sure those small things will disappear from your mind in the future 😊
For the cabinet area, instead of buying one you could try to see if the same company that did your remodel could help you make a built in for like a water dispenser. You mentioned in your last video you were planning on buying one of those.. A built in cabinet could help you hide it. Maybe if there is an off season worker needing some work that could help. I'm not sure if something like that would cost more or less than having something shipped in from the mainland.
@15:20 ... you can paint those stair details that are bothering you white with the color of acrylic paint of your choice! all you need is a small brush and some patience!
First-time renovations are so hard, because you don't even know what you don't know. So you want to lean on the experts but end up wishing you'd gone with your gut. It's a tough balance. Just know that I have MAJOR kitchen envy and would trade mine for yours in a heartbeat. The first time I saw your windows and the view from the kitchen I nearly fell out of my chair. I'd never leave!
I love the size of your kitchen, and your plan for a pantry is great. The 2nd heating stove you have for emergencies, if you have a cold spot in your house place it near there instead of next to the other one, if that's possible. Outlets, everyone needs a lot of those not only in the kitchen but everywhere. see you next week!
Truly understand! I’ve had one house remodel and the man doing it did things his own way rather than doing what I wanted…they were mostly asthetics and I wish I had “stuck to my guts.”😄 But all things considered in your home, the one thing I totally agree with you is the outlets!! You can never have too many kitchen outlets. Still, your home is beautiful and for two newbies you really did an amazing job!!
Looks fab ! Large plants or art is good in spaces, artifical plants have real touch these days, paint is good to coordinate trimmings too, get an elvis warhol print !!! Great video Celelia
you CAN still add the outlets ,if not the built in kind inside the wall , u can still do it I don't know what is it's name but we do it all the time in my country where they run a wire from an existing plug and creat another plug socket anywhere u want and they use wire covers to cover the wire ...but if u have a dry wall u can easily have the built in kind like ur existing plug .
It’s all a learning experience, I don’t know if you would ever get it perfect. We have been working on our place for 20 plus years and there is always something. Lol. Thanks for sharing. Love the videos.
I agree with you 100%
In that big space by the fridge, could you have a plant wall where you grow salad vegetables and herbs with LED lights? Great for your health, saves money on imported veggies and pretty greenery to look at! Thanks for another great video Cecilia, totally with you on the electric plug sockets too! 😉✨
I agree, mini indoor garden
I had the same thought! Definitely plants - HERBS! - with grow lights. Or have you ever heard of Aerogardens? I grow herbs and lettuces with those and they have their own lights. I feel your pain on the sockets.
Agree for hydroponic grow tower with light. Vegetables and strawberries 🍓
Especially since it’s in the warmest part of the house.
That's a great idea! It definitely needs green in there too, ld have indoor plants everywhere lol
Jeez Cecilia, I SO recognize your frustration with all those messed-up details in the house!! And you see them e.v.e.r.y day 🤦♀ Great video!
just my 2 cents, I agree with everyone who has said the white trim in the bathroom looks perfect with the sink/shower and changing it may make the walls look too dark. The second is the silver trim on the stairs also looks perfect. Black would stick out too much and white trim may need cleaning all the time since it's getting walked on all the time.
Yes….and it comes back into the espresso machine and the fridge. Just buy some more chrome looking items to top it off.
3:29 I personally like "dead spaces" as they provide a transition. Of course you want to utilize space wisely, but a little dead space, especially between areas like you have makes the area transition less busy, calming.
I LOVE how real you are. Literally just feels like we're hanging out together! Thank you for taking the time to share with us your life!
Actually I really like the white trimming in the bathroom, otherwise it would be too dark.
Otherwise, everything else you pointed out made sense.
Thanks for sharing so future home owners or renovators can learn from your missteps
I agree, the contrasting white trim in the bathroom is perfect. It will be really depressing all black and polar night darkness
I also really love the contrast trim. Don't change it to dark. This is very attractive.
Yes. I also love the contrast in the bathroom
I agree! The white trim ties in nicely with the shower, sink and toilet.
If you hadn´t told I would be sure the white trimmings where planed!
Black and white trimmings in the bathroom look totally amazing! Black and white go well together, even with graphite/concrete looking walls.
I LOVE all the fairy lights which does warm up the clinical white walls & greys...but on a dull day there's no warmth to the room. Nice big rooms!
Ditto.
My thoughts exactly. 👍
Agree too.
Complete agree and thought the same!
Agree wholeheartedly.
Big Hug ❤
Cecilia you are my comfort channel from my existential panic attacks. thank you , i don’t think you realize quite what you do to help other humans with your videos. all love to you 🦋🤍🥲☺️
Totally agree…..perfect thing to watch when everything else feels insane! …..it brings me right back to the simplicity and beauty of things…
Existential panic attacks...I wouldn't described it better now. Also reached here for an escape
Outlets!
Yes, kitchens these days have more things that need to be plugged in then in days gone by. Everywhere in the home need more outlets!
My electrician friend always says: "You can never have too many outlets." He has to convince people to put more in!
For the kitchen outlets, can you get power strips and attach them to the wall?
You can add the kitchen outlets
Two things.
I just remarked the same to my hubby whilst watching it. Great minds think alike!
I agree!
Your kitchen and rest of the place are great Cecilia. The kitchen looks good and comfy. Do not worry about changing anything. It is just perfect...
I would keep the white trim around the bathroom windows, it makes the view pop. Cant wait for all the upcoming stuff you have planned.
Hey Cecilia! The white trim in the bathroom makes the walls pop! The contrast is great!
you are so right, you can never have too many electricity outlets, especially in the kitchen
as to you comments on the "wasted space" at the end of the island, I would disagree - it makes for a very airy circulation space
I love the atmosphere of your videos. So calming and relaxing to watch and at the same time. Greetings from Finland ❄
Thank you very much! 😊
Oh yeah that would be a perfect little play area. Maybe a little childs table for coloring and play doh. (If it's ever needed of course;)
@@Tuinierenopstrobalen The Fairbanks House in Dedham, Massachusetts, USA is 385 years old!😱😀💕
Cecilia, this was a great video.
You could move the heater into the tv room to cosy it up. Another great video! Your cabin is amazing!
I think the space in the kitchen really is priceless. It gives you so much freedom, it's a luxury.
We know what a sweet mom she would be. Adorable!
I think you have a wonderful cabin Cecilia! Despite that small details!
A power bar/surge protector multi outlet is a wonderful thing and my way around the minimal outlet issue!
I love a good giveaway!!! Plus a donation to a cause that’s involved with the pups is even better… 🥰🥰
You could put the indoor water cooler you were talking about between the fridge and bathroom door! That's a perfect space for that. And, you could use the heater space to dry clothes and warm coats in the winter and ...save propane by using the propane dryer less? I don't actually know which would be less expensive....
Your cabin looks amazing! Don't worry for the bigger space in kitchen, it feels like a dream to have such space there 😇
The white trim compliments your bathroom wall color perfectly bringing it a little bit of light and it also matches your shower and vanity etc. I think it's perfect in my opinion.
Also in regards to builders and contractors talking you out of something you want I honestly think it stems from the fact that they don't want to do it because it's more work. Don't let them dissuade you from things you really want even if it takes more time.
The stunning views never ceases to amaze me ! So pretty !!
He sounds like a lazy sod, unfortunately.
My advice is leave it empty.
you know the extra open space is better for your mental state. Yo do feel cramped. I like your kitchen.
Your cabin looks great ! We always regret or think we should have done differently... enjoy your place. It's amazing!
Hello!!! When you’re moving the spare heater - you could redesign the pantry to take some of the “dead” space.
Sean
Your hair looks pretty! I love the new cut! I think it's new anyway :)
Simple open shelving would look great in those kitchen spaces.
Old builder here. Trust me. If those are the things you are unhappy with, you did an EXCELLENT design job! Good Work!
Thank you for sharing your life in Svalbard, but I think I can safely say that we are all really tuning-in to see Grimm and Finn show :)) More of those two, please!
The 3. Build is allways the best.
USA your videos or feel good videos thank you for them stay safe and blessed
Bathroom colour with white looks nice
I think you did a great job!!!
Cannot imagine that electrician! Of course you need as many outlets as possible!
I love your cabin, it is so cozy and welcoming. Please tell us about your wood stove.... many thanks for sharing your life.
@15:20 ... you can paint those stair details that are bothering you white with the color of acrylic paint of your choice! all you need is a small brush and some patience!
I’ve had one house remodel and the man doing it did things his own way rather than doing what I wanted…they were mostly asthetics and I wish I had “stuck to my guts.”😄
But all things considered in your home, the one thing I totally agree with you is the outlets!!
You have a nice kitchen. Well done, even it is at the end of the world.
you CAN still add the outlets ,if not the built in kind inside the wall , u can still do it I don't know what is it's name but we do it all the time in my country where they run a wire from an existing plug and creat another plug socket anywhere u want and they use wire covers to cover the wire ...but if u have a dry wall u can easily have the built in kind like ur existing plug .
It’s all a learning experience, I don’t know if you would ever get it perfect. We have been working on our place for 20 plus years and there is always something. Lol. Thanks for sharing. Love the videos.
