I watched this line up live in Belgrade in 2003. Joe Gooch is an outstanding guitarist and was a successful replacement for Alvin Lee. It is a great pity that they did not manage to stay together.
Totally agree and what a moment to be on stage playing with the greats and emulating one of the top lead singer songwriters and leaf guitarists of all time. What a moment for this young man Gooche

This is Bloody Amazing after all these years I didn't think there was another unbelievable live album of Ten Years After ! And as opposed to recorded live this Album is WITH the Complete Video movie of hundred and twenty Amazing moments documented of my youth Guitar hero of all Times whom sadly passed Away during An routine surgery he Just never came out of narcose which is So Sad I shall miss him forever! I recall the show when he played WITH A lot of great stars like Santana Steve Lukater pete haycock & the former guitarist of Lou reed Steve Hunter and the show was great
there always be crits....Alvin Lee had a particular sound or Ten Years After ...voice and tone of guitar ...that can never be copied ...but this kid is amazing with a guitar....i would not have wasted my time being a side kick to a star because he is a star himself ....if you listen to the riffs ....he did a amazing job......i will always be TYA fan.....had all their albums ......i grew up with their music .....king of the blues sounded like a ZZ top rip0ff........lol ....sounded like la grange ...uuuhhhh ...good shit
to all of you complaining "it's not Alvin Lee" wake up ! Alvin Lee died in 2013 and left the band in 2003 ! It's Ten Years After (Mk II) (2003-2014): Joe Gooch: guitar, vocals (born in 1977) (TYA: 2003>2014) Leo Lyons: bass (born in 1943) (TYA: 1966>2014) Chick Churchill: keyboards (born in 1946) (TYA: 1966>present) Ric Lee: drums (born in 1945) (TYA: 1966>present) since 2014 the lineup has changed Colin Hodgkinson (Whitesnake, Jon Lord, Spencer Davis Group) (born in 1945) has replaced Leo Lyons on bass Marcus Bonfanti, a true killer has replaced Joe Gooch (Marcus is born cca 1975) . this new lineup is great too. Ten Years After is Ten Years After no matter who are in it! Chick and Ric are in the band since 1966 !!! now Leo is playing with Joe Gooch in a power trio they formed called Hundred Seventy Split, which i recommend too !!! these cats don't need Alvin to be called Ten Years After! i mean: AC/DC played without Bon Scott from 1980. the Rolling Stones played without Brian Jones from 1969. etc... c'mon guys: here we got Chick, Ric and Leo (TYA since 1966) ! they are history just like Alvin ! so , yes it's not Alvin !!! Alvin had his solo carrer from 1973 (even before Positive Vibrations by TYA back in 1974) sorry but i hate people who say "the replacer of" ...they are Ten Years After ! enjoy! for the Love of Chick, Ric & Leo ! moreover for Chick & Ric whom in 2016 are in the third and actual lineup ! 50 years of TYA !!! isn't it enough for you guys ? :)
Saw them during my holiday this year (2012) in Croatia, next to our campsite, What a chance! they were great and the camping public liked it. the guys seemed to have fun! Before that I saw them somewhere in early 90 with Alvin Lee. Keep on rocking you guys!
Quel groupe ! Toujours aussi excellent malgré la disparition d' Alvin Lee. Ce jeune guitariste est génial. Mais personne ne peut remplacer le meilleur guitariste qu'était Alvin Lee.
Indeed, their intention was a lot more positive than the audiance, isn't music always a question unto us whether we are ready to open for a kind of holiness? I love the bassist too, isnt his drive infect you too? But for me is hel me, live 1973, the sphere of the whole album is lovely!
Man, some people are down on my boy, Joey Gooch. Well, if you didn't like Joe in TYA, don't worry, he and Leo started their own band Hundred Seventy Split (lame name IMO). It is silly to say Joe can't play but Hundred Seventy Split is no great success. Fact is, it is hard to start a blues act these days and have any success even having the great Leo Lyons involved. If you can move 5000 albums that is a big deal in the current climate. Anyway, I saw Joe live with TYA several years back and the guy was great. He can play, no doubt, but people don't usually embrace the next man in after a legend (A Lee) whether that legend be a musician, a politician or a ball player. Now, TYA is still going on with a lesser guitar/singer IMO. Hell, I really enjoyed hearing somebody play Alvin's great catalog was some level of virtuosity. And Joe did it with style adding a few wrinkles (e.g., sweep picking) that Alvin didn't used but keeping the general A Lee vibe . Hey, I think that Alvin was one of the greatest players in the early history of blues rock. I loved him but see no reason to knock Joe for having attempted to fill his shoes.
Alvin and Leo never could see eye to eye. To bad, because there's songs, especially from Crickenwood Green album that are every part TYA, that Alvin could never incorporate later in his reunions with TYA. Alvin was the star, no doubt. "Big Red", that legendary guitar, remains in LLoyd's of London. Rest in peace, brother.
Alvin Lee was only really good with these guys, the original Ten Years After. His music was not the same without them. There is so much drive and energy even now with this new guitarist/singer who by the way is outstanding.
Let's be optimistic ... Alvin was Alvin .. I love a good guitar ...especially young guitar players ... even Alvin was young once .. and compared it to bb king ..
I've been a TYA fan since late 60's and I have no problem with Joe's playing, or vocals, the band is tight and sounds great. Alvin Lee still records and puts out cd's.
Without sounding disrespectful Leo Lions is leading, I think that's obvious. The marriage between Alvin and Leo was extraordinarily close, Alvin ALWAYS led but knew where the band was, they listened out for each other on the beat until it became a transcendence after years recording and out on the road, The place in the beat became a natural default like true Jazz theyvwere never out. 😊in fact the rapport between all the original members was incredible, I don't think Alvin really knew he was never going to find that special bond with any other musicians, Chick, Rick and Leo had the spiritual locktite to blast a trail for Alvin which they did, all of them, all the way. RIP Alv, your legacy as we see lives on.
It's the real thing, with Leo Lyons (who founded Ten years After with Alvin Lee), Rick Lee and Chick Churchill from the original band, and Joe Gouch who took on as guitarist/front man after Alvin left the band. Alvin Lee is special place to me, he was wonderful, but I sure appreciate the upload of this as I've never had the opportunity to listen to the "new" band before. They are great and I'm sure Alvin Lee would agree with me as he listens from the peaceful place he is in now.
I agree, it's not that blokes fault that he obtained that gig. He's just doing what his dreams set him out to do. These people should be getting mad at Alvin and the band, not him!
Forgive my ignorance but I grew up being introduced to FM at 14 yrs old and yea Ten Years After couple years later while learning guitar and my peers showing me riffs and seeing Alvin Lee as a presence I'd have to call this ''1 year After'' though if it'd be a tribute or Pro Cover band they do have mega chops, it would be like calling The Experience or Band of Gypsies without Jimi Hendrix their respectful names, best to call it ''formerly known as'' I sure miss Alvin and his comeback(s) it is what prompted this again attempt to gain notoriety but hey if they do stay at it they have it in Spades to accomplish what experiences they have to take it on higher.

I agree. Alvin is GOD. R.I.P.
That audience must have been on Seconal's... The cymbal work was Fantastic.. Wow

Ric Lee on drums :) TYA since 1966!
FANTÁSTICA BANDA DESDE FINAL DOS ANOS 60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's one of the great guitarists
I know most say "he's not Alvin." After, hearing I'm gong home, though, doesn't matter much. He is good!
Not at all bad but sacrilege playing a Fender.

I'm glad that some care to keep our generations music alive !!... and they do a good job :-)
Wow ' super
That's just the way it is... no doubt about it... Alvin Lee is a legend... You can't replace a legend...
Great. Band with this singer. Lee left the band years ago and died this year. I saw them last week in Holland. Good band
I was there. :) It was stunning.
Alvin Lee was only really good with these guys, the original Ten Years After. His music was not the same without them. There is so much drive and energy even now with this new guitarist/singer who by the way is outstanding.
Without Alvin There's no TEN YEARS AFTER. The feeling is gone...
Agree with that. Sounds like a poor version of Ten Years Afters unfortunatelly, although this guitar boy is very, very good player.
this guy is fantastic.....i love him...not fair to compare now..hes too young... compare in 30 years..
גיל פלג In his whole life he'll become the half of Alvin...
Let's be optimistic ... Alvin was Alvin .. I love a good guitar ...especially young guitar players ... even Alvin was young once .. and compared it to bb king ..
גיל פלג I thought about it again .... you're right .... sorry ... Alvin has the X Factor ....

I've been a TYA fan since late 60's and I have no problem with Joe's playing, or vocals, the band is tight and sounds great.

wowJoe Gouch great player ..i was brought up with TYA and Avin Lee so sad about his death ;Joe is doing a great job

Leo Lyons is the hardest working bass player EVER. (and I'm not a huge bass fan)
It aint Ten Years After without Mr. Lee. Wouldn't even go to this concert for free without Mr. Lee.
c'mon... Alvin Lee...Ten Years After is gone forever..!! but their music will live on forever..!!
this guy is a better guitarist in my opnion he's playing Alvin licks and then some.Plenty of feel, perfect timing, inventive leads.Kick ass
I agree, it's not that blokes fault that he obtained that gig. He's just doing what his dreams set him out to do. These people should be getting mad at Alvin and the band, not him!
Thanks, Lionel!
Can't bring AL back from the dead, and this guy sounds a lot better than nothing at all.
orginal liebe
