The centre of russian military is to the west, and that of the US to the east. Just imagine the length of their supply lines if an armed conflict actually happens there in the remote Bering strait, so its clear why they are unwilling. Not to mention the weather, & the resources are scarce there and totally unsufficient to supply the war.
