This is such a great tutorial. The section where you show how different techniques look on the same applique was so helpful. Seeing how thread choice and stitches look was super helpful. I learned so much more in this 35 minute video than in some much longer videos. I agree with everyone else that has commented, you are a great teacher and the close ups were excellent. Thank you.
Wow, I love this appliqué technique! You are a great teacher; I love that you include so many bits of valuable information during your tutorial, very educational. Thank you!
I have to say, THANK YOU! I have never watched a tutorial that was just plain common sense teaching before. You show by doing, show different ways and I just appreciate you so much! I am now doing a blanket loaded with applique and I am having fun doing it!
This is by far the best tutorial I have ever seen, and I have watched a ton of these videos. Thank you so very much for such a detailed step by step explanation of all the different ways to stitch appliqué. You are definitely a phenomenal teacher.
One of the best instructors! She is so encouraging! I love the options presented. I agree that the close up camera work was extremely helpful especially for a beginner. You explain things very clearly. I have some sight challenges however I believe this is something I can handle. I have been trying to find my niche since having the eye challenges and this sounds great!
What a complete tutorial for a beginner. Thank you so much, you are an awesome instructor and you work is impeccable. I had to go ahead and buy this product because it definitely have a lot of uses and also because I hope you continue to do this kind of instructional videos. Thank you.
Oh my goodness, I am getting ready to make some Hawaiian styled pillows to go with the quilt I had made my oldest and his family, and was concerned at how I was going to do this. Thank you so much!
I have an older model of Husqvarna Viking sewing machine we bought about 20+ years ago, & I still love it. But I wish I could find a model with more functions.
That was so nice to watch! I felt like I was learning a lesson from the grandma I wish I had! I'm restoring a wedding pillowcase for my aunt and need to patch the back - I'm going to use this technique. Thank you so much for making this video.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have never done any appliqué but find it necessary to save a quilt where I had to do a repair. I feel confident trying this now!
I always seem to be looking for you😊 cause you explain things so well. I think I'm a backwards lefty, but your attitude just seems to help me even more.. I love this new applique... I LOVE doing this stuff!!! And I'm a old softball player! Go figure!! Have a bless day!!👍
Thanks for all the tips. Your whale is a great example with tighter corners, points on the tail and is super cute. I will definitely be trying your product.
Thank you for showing this technique. Looks great! I just happen to be just surfing around watching sewing youtube videos..and had come across your youtube. Wow! So glad I came across this video of yours! Soo much easier then doing turning over- thank you!
Hope to see more videos from you! This was really helpful! I realized while I was watching that I have something like this Whisper Lite left over from when I used to make clothing. I would use it to trace my patterns. I am going to try this!
Wonderful, wonderful demonstration. The whisper lite helps to have a sharper, cleaner applique. Thank you for sampling the various stitching techniques as well. Very helpful. You are a skilled and creative artist. ❤
Wow!!!!! I’m soooooo happy to have this tutorial pop up. It’s far and away the BEST I have watched….and I have watched a lot of them since I’ve entered the techno tutorial world. Thanks soooo much.
Thank you for your excellent instructions and wonderful close ups. I was looking at different techniques to applique whales onto my baby quilt and yours looks like the best and reversing the design is priceless! I've used freezer paper with starch before and also gluing the edges over but this looks a lot simpler.
OH, MY, GOSH!! As a beginner I'm watching tons of videos about sewing and I'm finding myself drawn to applique'. THIS method is so cool!! Thank you so very much for sharing your experience and knowledge. Peekaboo Puss is gorgeous!
Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting 😀 you’ll have fun exploring and trying all the fabulous creative techniques. Have fun and enjoy the process and thank you for your kind words 🤗
I just found your channel and feel like I have hit the jackpot! You are such a wonderful teacher, providing great up close camera work, and multiple ways to complete the project based on our preferences! That is completely what sold me! I always felt like the “Appliqué Club” 😂 had too many rules for me!! I am definitely looking up the Whisper Lite and am sitting here at 5:00am trying to decide what kind of appliqué pattern I want to try first and if there are pattern books, etc! Looking forward to soaking up more of your fun and knowledge! Thanks so much!
Hi Rachel, you are so sweet for those kind words. I am so happy you realize that some rules are meant to be broken…..or at least bent. Happy stitching 😀🧵🪡
Thank you, Julie, for making my day. As a beginner, I am overjoyed. I stumbled upon your channel when I did, I will definitely be following you in the future along with your past tutorials. I JUST ❤ IT.
I, too, am so glad I found your channel and video! I was getting ready to applique with fusible, but didn’t want to use all that expensive product. I had no idea this could be done! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks for such a detailed tutorial. Loved all the options you demonstrated. Especially appreciated the child safety tip about the thread. I always worried about this. Happy I found your channel.
This video helped me so much. I am new to appliqués and I couldn’t decide on my method but you sold me to your side! Lol just awesome thank you so much
Thank you so much for sharing this information/process. I have to do 8 hearts and I had no idea how to do it. I’m very excited to have your video to watch & rewatch. THANK YOU!
Thanks so much for this video tutorial. I never liked the process of needle turn applique, but did like the look of it. I love this method. Many thanks 👍💐
I love, love, love this product! I have made a lot of turned edge applique quilts using Whisperlite and it makes the whole process so easy. I've managed to even make a few appliques that have a layer of fluffy batting in them; however, I had NO sharp corners like triangles or narrow sections in my applique pieces when using batting (simple circles to make balloons, flowers with large petals and the like). I can imagine that any pattern with tighter shapes and using batting in them to make them puffy would be impossible to turn. I suppose one could use the opening to stuff bits of puffy polyester batting and then hand stitch that opening closed, but I can imagine that it would be difficult if not impossible to get it down narrow passages.
Hi Bonnie, thank you for your feedback. 😀 I’m so happy that you found my Whisperlite and that you love it for appliqué I would think that your idea of stuffing bits of poly fill into the small spaces might work. Stitch on and have fun
this was incredibly helpful for me, a completely beginner. Thank you! I think it looks much nicer than raw edge while still remaining beginner friendly.
A trick to make your turning easier in the inside point of the tail would be to make 1 stitch across before heading out of the tight point. It makes turning easier and lays nice and flat. I learned this in making scallop edges on quilts. I love this method
Great tutorial! Could you make another video sometime with different shapes for mini quilts? I don’t think I could tire of watching and learning from you.
I’m so glad I saw this video! I ordered some Whisperlite today and I’m excited to appliqué my Christmas trees onto a quilt top that I’ve been so afraid to attempt. Now I know just what to do! Thank you!
This is awesome! I've thought about doing applique, but the other methods all seemed too fussy for me to want to mess with it. This looks so much easier
Just received your whisper lite product and it works beautifully. I will be ordering a lot more of it. I researched and watched a thousand videos regarding appliqué and yours is the best way to effortlessly produce a great turned edge appliqué especially for a beginner!!!
I have a set of tweezers for helping to flip little pokey sections like that tail at the end of the tube. You have to go gently on it, but it really helps get bunched up areas started.
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I wish I had known about this before I made the Alphabet Quilt about fonts for my adult son. I do love hand sewing but sadly my t thumbs are now arthritic so this method will work much better for me.
Basting glue is great for holding in place while you sew and washi tape to hold picture & whisperlite while tracing. I have used this method, but not this product. Looks perfect for the job. Thanks for sharing!
Great video I learned a lot thank you. I was wondering in your next tutorial if you could add what size of needle you also use explained everything else from the thread to the take the stitches which was amazing I’m going to be trying it tonight I have been doing the appliqué the other way where you just lay it on the fabric and it seems to always fray a bit. Again thank you so much you are such a great teacher. I look forward to watching more of your videos
Audrey I use an applique needle size 10 or 12. Applique needles have a narrow head so it passes through the fabric easily. Thank you for your kind feedback. Stitch happy!
I don't do hand stiching..lol. I do think a straight stich in Royal Blue would be striking on that fabric. Love your technique, your soft voice & demo. I also like puffy pieces too if your considering other demos. Thx.👍
Thank you.
Gosh Julie thank you for the kindness 🤗 and I’m so happy that you found my video so helpful- that’s what I was aiming for 😀 stitch on!

You explain things very clearly. I have some sight challenges however I believe this is something I can handle. I have been trying to find my niche since having the eye challenges and this sounds great!
I KNEW there had to be an easier way to applique without all that goopy glue or sticky starch! I have placed an order. Thank you so very much.
Thanks so much Becky, I hope you are liking it.
"tame it into submission " love it!
I love this method. This is my favorite method so far!
That teeny-tiny iron made me giggle. It reminds me of when I was a little girl. This project is so cute.
Thank you for this tutorial. The steps are clear, and you helped remove my hesitation to try applique.
Wonderful - I’m happy it helped you 😀
What a complete tutorial for a beginner. Thank you so much, you are an awesome instructor and you work is impeccable. I had to go ahead and buy this product because it definitely have a lot of uses and also because I hope you continue to do this kind of instructional videos. Thank you.

Thanks Judy turned edge appliqué does have a much nicer look to it vs fusible. Fusible appliqué has its place but it’s just not the same look.
FAR OUT!!!!!!! I love this!!! So glad I found you. Thanks!
Thanks Carol 😀

Oh good, I’m glad you found it helpful . 😀
I have a set of tweezers for helping to flip little pokey sections like that tail at the end of the tube. You have to go gently on it, but it really helps get bunched up areas started.
This is a really well done tutorial, so easy even for beginners and I will be looking for Whisperlite now, so thanks !!
Thank you so much Valerie😀 if you can’t find Whisperlite locally it’s in my shop at www.thistledownquilts.com

I’m so glad you found it helpful 😀
I've always shied away from needle turn. I might try a small project with this technique and see how it goes!
I do hope you’ll give appliqué a try 😀
Basting glue is great for holding in place while you sew and washi tape to hold picture & whisperlite while tracing.
I have used this method, but not this product. Looks perfect for the job. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Linda 😀 great suggestions 👍 stitch with joy
Thank you for this. I just ordered some Whisperlight.
Thank you so much Lynn, it’s on the way! 😀🤗
Thank you so much. I'm super excited to try this method.
Thanks, 😀 I think you’ll be very happy with this appliqué technique.
Beautiful handwork.
Thank you much Alice 🤗
I don't do hand stiching..lol. I do think a straight stich in Royal Blue would be striking on that fabric. Love your technique, your soft voice & demo. I also like puffy pieces too if your considering other demos. Thx.👍
