Love this circle!! Just perfect! I have a tote pattern that uses bunches of circles and now I’m excited to be able to make pretty circles!! Thank you!!
Thank you for introducing your technique. It gives me the confidence to try needleturn applique. Thank you again.
Love that she showed all the final stitches options at the end! (Also LOVE that wavey background fabric - really pretty!)
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I wish I had known about this before I made the Alphabet Quilt about fonts for my adult son. I do love hand sewing but sadly my t thumbs are now arthritic so this method will work much better for me.
i JUST ORDERED THE WHISPERLITE IN 1 YARD INCREMENT AND 2 YARD INCREMENTS. THANK YOU FOR THIS.
That is simply beautiful ❤Ty!!❤

I KNEW there had to be an easier way to applique without all that goopy glue or sticky starch! I have placed an order. Thank you so very much.
I’m new to collage quilting and found this video to be very informative. Your techniques are very easy to follow and look forward to starting a collage quilt. Thank you!
Thank you, Julie, for making my day. As a beginner, I am overjoyed. I stumbled upon your channel when I did, I will definitely be following you in the future along with your past tutorials. I JUST ❤ IT.
Wow, I love this appliqué technique! You are a great teacher; I love that you include so many bits of valuable information during your tutorial, very educational. Thank you!
Great tutorial! ❤
This is video is extremly helpful. I just purchased Whisperlite from your website. Do you have any videos on applique and reverse applique techniques for more intricate shapes like letters?
This is by far the best tutorial I have ever seen, and I have watched a ton of these videos. Thank you so very much for such a detailed step by step explanation of all the different ways to stitch appliqué. You are definitely a phenomenal teacher.
I agree with everything you have just said, I was only going to repeat word for word thank you ❤
I really needed this video and especially the last application of appliqué and whisper lite. Thank you!❤
Can you do a video on how to design your own pattern on draft paper? Enjoyed the video
Great teacher! Thank you
Thank you fabulous idea
Good technical information about the use of the sewing machine, but which model do you use?
I am doing your technique with a pattern. It looks so nice and it’s fairly easy. I’m sewing on the cut line then turning. The pieces turn out smaller, how do you compensate? Do you add 1/4 inch or what? Thanks!
Hi, how much smaller are they becoming? You do not need to add a quarter inch as you do that after sewing when you cut it out. Make sure you are not stitching towards the inside of the line and you should use a 60 weight thread or a 50 weight at most.
@@thistledownquilts I’ll check the thread weight. I’ll send a picture of the project to your website.
What a wonderful tutorial, thank you. I just was gifted a ton of fabric samples and fabric book samples. I can’t wait to get creative. Thanks again 😊
Have fun getting creative 😀
I love all your fun tips!
Thanks so much! 😀
Thanks for the tutorial. Now I know the reason why my quilts are never true to size. I have a Designer One as well. Just curious what the hooks are for on the back of the machine?
You’re very welcome 😊 yes I’ve had this machine for a long time. Those little hooks are for holding the cord of a small led light that you can attach. Very observant 👍
I like the idea of the Edge. I used to have the Viking #1 decades ago. Great machine!
Yes it is a good machine 😀 thanks for watching
you are an excellent teacher!
Thank you! 😃I’m glad you found the tutorial helpful.
Helll Linda how do I find non fusible whisper lite?... can't find it anywhere, everything is iron on?
Hi, Yelana, you can find it on my website at www.thistledownquilts.com Thanks for asking 😀
Hello. I am new to collage quilting. I have been sewing since 7th grade, when moved to U.S I learned about quilts, latter in age 30 I learned about collage quilting, what a beautiful idea. Your videos are amazing, step by step instruction, no rushing with words, no skipping steps like others do. You are amazing! ❤.. Thank you so much! Can't wait to make wall art! 😊
Thank you for sharing your quilting story and for the kind words. 😀❤️
This video helped me so much. I am new to appliqués and I couldn’t decide on my method but you sold me to your side! Lol just awesome thank you so much
So happy the tutorial helped you with your appliqué! Thank you 😀
Thank-you, I love your technique for appliques. I'll be back!❤
Thank you Linda 😀
How do you do tiny pieces like a chicken beak?
One way would be to make a larger piece with the beak shape at one end stitch it with this technique. Then turn it and then trim away all but the small portion at the the beak end.
@@thistledownquiltsI came to ask the same question!
I’m excited to try this method! Thank you! Is there a reason to leave the cut small? 😊
Thank you and you just want to have enough Whisperlite to get a hold of and turn to the back. On large appliqués I usually cut it away after turning and pressing.
@@thistledownquilts Thank you for answering! I meant is there a reason to only cut a small slit or can you cut a large slit to make it easier to turn?
@@nanasloves oh sorry, yes you can definitely cut a larger opening. Whatever works best for you. 😀
@@thistledownquilts thanks again. 🌼
What about appliques with many parts that fit either or under a main part?????
When placing an edge of one appliqué under another you want to open up the end of the appliqué that goes under so that it lays flat. Hope that helps. 😀
Thank you I have been trying to get my courage up for two months to applique names and wedding date in quilt square from his grandmother.
Thanks for providing this very thorough tutorial! Im researching the best way to applique simple flowers and leaves on a baby quilt and this may be it. I just have one question first: Does the Whisperlite hold up under normal wear and tear and machine washing and drying? It won't ball up and curl under the applique and potentially distorting the design? Thank you again!
Thank you so much and in answer to your question - if you cut a large slice in the Whisperlite then it could curl up some on large appliqués. I would trim the Whisperlite away after turning and pressing. 😀 enjoy the stitch
It seems to me that this is so much more time consuming than needle turn. All that prep work here, but with needle turn you just cut it out and sew it down, virtually no prep work. I suppose this would work for those that can’t control the needle. But for intricate applique this is useless.
Thanks for your thoughts on needle turn. This method may not be for everyone or for intricate small appliqué but many beginners and people with limited finger movement find it very helpful. There are many different ways to accomplish a technique and this is just one. Happy stitching 😀
What is this material and is it available in yardage?
Hello, The material used is called Whisperlite and it is available by the yard on my website at www.thistledownquilts.com Thanks for watching, new videos are coming soon.
Love love love this 🧵🧵
Thank you 🤗
This is such a great tutorial. I love the details and the close up video.🎉🎉🎉
Thank you Michelle, so glad you liked the tutorial.
Being able to iron is a big plus, and if you want to stick it in place temporarily, you can always just pop a little spray baste it down and have all the up sides of fusible and none of the downsides. I think I have been using too heavy of interfacing so you sometimes see a little white peaking out. I'm going to have to buy some whisperlight now!
Thanks so much for your insights 😀 I think you’ll be really happy with the Whisperlite.
I have a set of tweezers for helping to flip little pokey sections like that tail at the end of the tube. You have to go gently on it, but it really helps get bunched up areas started.
This woman is adorable I love her!
You are so sweet 😊
