  • In this tutorial I go over the basic steps I use for stacking images in Deep Sky Stacker (x64) v4.2.6.
    00:00 - Stacking 33 images of M13
In the first session I go over every step in detail while we stack an image of M13 taken with a 12" Dobsonian, highlighting the buttons you need to press and walking you through the entire process.
    20:22 - Stacking 468 images of M13
Then, I do it again, but a little faster and with less highlighting. During the second stack of M13, we add hundreds of more photos to the process to prove the benefits of stacking and how more data can improve the final image.
    27:31 - Stacking 60 images of M45
After that, I show a more conventional stacking process using images taken from a small refractor telescope and a DSLR on a tracking mount. This time, I stack M45. Again, I go over each step, hoping the workflow pattern has become more predictable to you.
    40:54 - Stacking 520 images of M27
Finally, in our last session I stack 400+ photos of M27, taken with a 10" Dobsonian telescope. This time breezing through the entire process in an attempt to demonstrate how quickly you can stack and edit your images.
    Key things to remember:
    - Load the default settings if you think your settings are off, too specific to your last stack session, or you are just starting out.
    - Reduce the Noise by using a Median Filter when you compute the number of detected stars.
    - Use RGB Background Calibration under Recommended Settings to avoid having to re-align your channels after stacking.
If you know of more tips that could help us beginners out, please let us all know!!
    Clear skies!!

      Bonsoir Grégory!
It's great to hear from you! I really appreciate your compliment, it means a lot to hear this. I have tried to learn another language before and it is surprisingly difficult for me! So congratulations on your progress and maintaining the enthusiasm to learn more. It is inspiring to hear when a teacher is pursuing more education. We need more teachers like you!
And of course, if you have any questions about DSS, Astronomy or why we fish for fish, I'd be happy to help! :)
Wishing you all the best and many clear skies from Bellingham!
