VW ID Buzz, Rate or hate featuring Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealer at Caffeine and Machine

- We took the now bagged VW ID-Buzz over to Caffeine and Machine to a Lowlife Transporters meet. The question is did they rate it, or did they hate it. We bumped in to Wheeler Dealers Mike Brewer while we were there, so had to get his opinion. Now sitting on air suspension, the new Solow AiR management and Navis 21" forged Diamond wheels, we wanted to see if like minded, van modification people loved it as much as we did. I think its far to say it was a success.
A full video is coming next week with the list of modifications we did to get it to this.

There were a German couple at Busfest last year who had driven all the way from near Munich.
Their van was stock on 21" wheels and was a more cheerful colour combo, less gangsta and more of a spiritual link to the delicate old Splitty, I want one!
Yes it's great how they can adapt to different looks. I mean I'm no gangsta but this suits me more personally than the flower power vibe. There is a cool off road looking one in Germany that's a killer look.

Looks nice with the mods.. but the price is laughable for what they are before you even touch it.
I feel like all vehicles are going that way though. The cargo isn't bad especially with the current £5k government grant

I’m very pro EV as you’d of guessed. I find it funny how many hate the idea of electric. Baffling really. 🤪
They've not driven one clearly. I switch between this and my very highly spec'd T6.1, given the choice, I choose the buzz every time.
How much does thing cost, love the mods, love the colour...bur not everyone can afford electric..

I rate it, but I am prejudiced. My wife owns a yellow with white Buzz (both interior - including steering wheel - and exterior). She even lets me drive it. The main contention is the width. It is much wider than our previous vehicle (that I owned) a Mazda 5. This is problematic on narrow Norwegian roads as well as parking lots and houses. We have a real world range of about 350 km.
As mentioned, another theoretical issue is the lack of windows for passengers in the second row. This is our fifth MPV, and we have almost never opened such a window. We have never had so much space for luggage or for rear-seat passengers.
One person commented on the lowness of your machine. We have snow! I would actually like the Buzz to sit a little higher because ground clearance can be an issue.
On a recent trip to Iceland, we met an all black Buzz. From my perspective it was far too dark and gloomy.
As a dedicated MPV enthusiast, I would probably not buy any other ID model. Back in about 2019/20, my wife and I "test drove" an ID.3. She sat in the driver's seat for less than one minute. She backed it up about 3m (10') then immediately drove it forward into the same parking space. She asked me to drive it back to the dealership, as she exited the vehicle.
My wife was sold on the Buzz as soon as she looked at a photo of the interior. It was bright and cheerful. She also thought that she would sit high enough and have a good overview of the road.
That's very interesting to read. On the point of windows, we're working on a flush sliding window to replace the OEM window in the sliding doors

Looks lovely and that is where it ends. The electric vehicle database says it has a 145 mile range on the motorway in winter ( unconverted ), absolutely useless for a campervan, particularly going to remote areas like the Highlands and that is when it is brand new. From day one all lithium ion batteries degrade through time and use cycles because of dendrite formation, watching the range hour by hour reduce like sand in an hour glass. Battery life on youtube has an id3 ( same platform as the id buzz) and his car has lost 10% battery capacity in 2 years. My EV has lost 1/3 rd of it's battery capacity and range in 7 years 4 months and 35 k miles. The charging infrastructure is a disaster in use and the whole concept of electric vehicles is fatally flawed. As for depreciation, people are steering clear of electric cars and second hand prices have fallen through the floor and your investment would lose money nearly as fast as if you set your wallet on fire. I have learnt my lesson and will not buy another EV.

Absolutely stunning. Love the colour. Love the stance and wheels. Custom look makes it more appealing. My only nag is how long battery life compared to getting a T6.1. I'm looking to buy.. is it for sale?

Hate for me, and I am sure most of us who live in flats feel the same. It may have been different if it was a hybrid. Saying that for the money I'd still rather buy a 6.1 California, that would depreciate a lot less!
Yeah I agree. I don't know how the government expect to stop petrol and diesel sales when people living in flats can't charge EV. For those that can though, they are a decent viable option. I'm not saying they can replace the combustion engine, but I do think there is space for them in the automotive world.
