Why didn’t this come to me years ago? I discovered Mose Allison and George in the 60’s in high school in Chicago. Oh, that’s right. The home of the blues!!!!
Van actually looks as though he's enjoying himself, which is not something you see in all of his performances. RIP the great Mose Allison, performer, songwriter and wit.
Thanks for this post. Trying to educate myself about Mose. I'd heard Nat Cole, Ray Charles and Fame in his performances but this added much greater depth.
His mention of Dylan reminded me of something happened a few years ago. Halloween night there was a show (don't know what) and Bob Dylan and Van Morrison were singing together. I THOUGHT it was in Greece, but I believe when I finally found it, it was in Scotland. Need to check that out. Sitting on a cliff area and singing. It was pretty remarkable. In fact, I'm going to try to find it again. RIGHT NOW!
+J Lacey .....A vastly unsung Hammond genius. He's ALWAYS been that good, man! Check out the newly re-issued 5CD box on Polydor (10 Oct 2015) - his first 4 albums and a disc of unreleased B-sides and w.h.y. ....and then check out rest of his AMAZING back catalogue! Enjoy! Just out of interest, that's Georgie's sons ( in the video ^ ) on bass and drums.
If i can tell something that you all know, I just want to tell that Mose Allison is the godfather :-))) an the children are great. What about the bass and sax players ?
Mose Allison is the coolest mother-father-sister-bother ever!! And these guys do him justice!!

The jazz version of Lenny Bruce.
That's great!
Fortunately that's only true to a limited extent. Lenny burned out very quickly.
Jazz version of Lenny Bruce. You heard it. That's the point that was missed in the Mose Allison Mississippi Blues Trail dedication. Case closed.
