Good choices! Here are my top 10 small boxes board games: 1) Scout 2) Long Shot: The dice game 3) The Crew 4) For Northwood 5) Arboretum 6) Love Letter 7) Skulls of Sedlec 8) Sea Salt & Paper 9) Sprawlopolis 10) Cockroach poker And some honorable mentions: Timebomb, Cat in the box, Splendor Duel, Air Land and Sea, Cubirds, Hanamikoji, Skull King, PUSH, For Sale.
A number of my favorite games are on your list. 😊 For Northwood! is just waiting for me to get a color printer so I can print out the PNP copy I bought a few months ago
I’m so happy to see Skulls of Sedlec since I believe it underrated. I do have a penchant for Schotten Totten and Ohanami as they are both very easy to table with non gamers. I a. Now curious for Faraway. Thanks for the great content.
Excellent list! My backpack has the same two games at all times that you mentioned, Ancient Realm and For Northwood. Love how much gameplay are in all these small-box games
What about: Bonanza, Colt Super Express, Joraku, High Society, Can't Stop, Sardegna, Cat in the Box, Maskmen, Harvest(japans small box game), Scout, Seers Catalog, Inside Job, Coup, Love Letter, Nana/Trio, Tricky Time Crisis, 12 chip trick, For Sale, Arboretum, Tricktakers, Skull, Incan Gold, Yokai Septet, Vegetable Stock, Rebel Princess, & Infiltrators? Sorry I love small box coverage!
This list has some great ones for sure! Hanamikoji, critters at war, Paris, and the crew are all great choices others Id add: Infiltrators was a huge surprise for us, and we are hooked on.Alex, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I also was surprised to not see Cockroach Poker, and For Sale (I have the travel size). Other good ones: Hot Lead, Sea Salt and Paper, Trailblazers (travel size), Scout, Cat in the box, finger guns at high noon, Ghosts of Christmas, and Nine Lives.
Great set of games, and agree with many of your choices, glad to see Paris CdL get a shout its brilliant. What might be missing? Radlands, Targi is so good it would be in my top 5, and I still think it’s takes a lot to knock 7 Wonders Duel off its mantel. Just bought LotR Duel so we’ll see if that rises high!
Nice list 👍🏻 but I would add : Caper Europe, Sea salt paper and Skull king. Love this 3 games. I always have them at work to play with some coworkers during lunch
I'm a huge fan of Skulls of Sedlec and For Northwood. The rest of my Top 10 would include.. - Arboretum - fun, cuthroat 1v1 - Three Sisters and Fleet The Dice Game - my favorite roll and writes - Doom Machine - solo dice placement - Mr. Cabbagehead's Garden - spatial drafting puzzle - Spaceshipped and Wonder Tales - two more great ButtonShy games - Brutal Kingdom - this is just a better Love Letter imo
Some missing ones I would put on my top 10 small box: Sail Sea Salt & Pepper Ohanami Tiny Epic Galaxies Tiny Epic Quest La Granja No Siesta Oh My Goods Port Royal Three Sisters / Fleet The Dice Game Circle The Wagons
I also enjoy Skulls and For Northwood. I would probably add Cat in the Box and No Thanks onto this list. I know No Thanks doesn’t have a ton of depth, but I haven’t had a bad game of it and have played quite a bit.
The only one I have off this list is Skulls of Sedlec. Definitely gives me more to consider. Thought about For Northwood when the campaign was live but I typically do not like trick taking games and was wondering how well a solo one would work. Appreciate the video as always!
My small-box games list would include: San Juan Cribbage Mü Citadels Starship Catan Legend of the Five Rings TCG Star Realms Freight Train Race for the Galaxy Marginal for size: St. Petersburg The White Castle
For me, there's Scout! One Night Ultimate Werewolf Fixer 6 nimmt! Viking Seesaw Prey Another Day Vira Mors Stick Collection Tiny Epic Dungeons Fantasy Realms
Skulls Of Sedlec is even better with the Champions, Merchants, Zealots expansion, letting 3 or 4 players build a normal size pyramid. Arboretum is my favorite small box game right now. The more I've played it, the better I've gotten. The "agony" is sweet. Then, it's Phantom Ink, Floriferous, Mottainai, Decrypto, and Hooky. Further down is Money!, Burke's Gambit, Forest Shuffle, Res Arcana.
Thanks for the great video. Id be curious to hear your thoughts on PUSH (2018) ? It looks like it's similar to coloretto, im not sure one which is the better purchase between the two. Thanks!
Great list buddy! Lots of new ones for me. Very surprised to not find White Castle on the list. Was it beaten out by these options? Such a great, tricky brain burner.
the light in the mist, one deck dungeon, mini rogue, dark tomb, and you also forgot the best part of the small box videos!: when you don't have 20 minutes to watch a full review when you're not looking for a how to play or an hour long playthru and let's be honest when the interest is a little lower too that's why we have ten small box games for you.
I am so annoyed at Hanamikoji. Paying for a deluxe version and making it as beautiful as possible because we love it. And they throw that Dice Tower logo in the middle of the box. I was not expecting it, the color clashes, and they dont even put it on the edge to allow the main image to shine. Thanks for making it harder to display :( It really did pull some of yhe excitement out of us. Edit: Especially since the kickstarter uses images that don't have the logo.
How about pocket sized games you can take on family holidays? 4 player and fits in a coat / trouser pocket. Currently Love Letters is always in my pocket when we go on holiday as a family, always happy to play it but I'd like more choice and still haven't found an alternative other than the Marvel Love Letters game (which just isn't as good as the original).
Are any of the Tiny Epic games considered. It's a whole series of games that fit this genre. I would consider Tiny Epic Galaxies, Tiny Epic Dungeons, and Tiny Epic Zombies as small box options as well
The mechanism changes from looking for specific cards in specific order to a more flexible system. We've played both, and I initially liked Deep Sea better because of the flexibility, but after several play-throughs, I now lean more towards the original The Crew. YMMV.
I feel like you either love or hate Faraway. Its legit a good game but i hate it so much. The backwards planning things does not make my brain happy...
I don’t know what part of the world you are in, but Walmart is selling for northwood. Like, come on dude. How much effort did you really put in to finding a copy? More or less than the amount time it took to type this comment? Amazon is selling copies. BGG has sellers.
Good choices!
Here are my top 10 small boxes board games:

Coloretto is my favorite from this list, but Ancient Realms is an EXCELLENT shout. 🧡
Thanks for this! I added a few games to my "want to play list" based on this. Love Air, Land & Sea Critters and just ordered the expansion!
What about: Bonanza, Colt Super Express, Joraku, High Society, Can't Stop, Sardegna, Cat in the Box, Maskmen, Harvest(japans small box game), Scout, Seers Catalog, Inside Job, Coup, Love Letter, Nana/Trio, Tricky Time Crisis, 12 chip trick, For Sale, Arboretum, Tricktakers, Skull, Incan Gold, Yokai Septet, Vegetable Stock, Rebel Princess, & Infiltrators?

There are expansions for ancient realms. I think the Leaders pack provides different scoring objectives. I’m sure you would love it
Pixies
For northwood
Scout
Cabanga
Trio
Gentle rain
Grove
Yes! AllPlay, during GenCon, reminded people how many great small box games there are and to go find more❤
Great set of games, and agree with many of your choices, glad to see Paris CdL get a shout its brilliant. What might be missing? Nice list 👍🏻 but I would add : Caper Europe, Sea salt paper and Skull king. Love this 3 games. I always have them at work to play with some coworkers during lunch
Forest Shuffle, Knarr, any version of Love Letter, Skora and Oh my Goods
I would add:
Targi (with Expansion)
Pagan: Fate of Roanoke
Hive
Targi is so often forgotten.
It's one of the very best two-player games.
Hurray! Was hoping For Northwood! was your +1. Excellent game and also always in my travel bag. Great video; thanks!
Some amazing new small box games were just released at Essen, most notably Lone Wolves and Castle Combo.
I'm a huge fan of Skulls of Sedlec and For Northwood. The rest of my Top 10 would include..
- Arboretum - fun, cuthroat 1v1
- Three Sisters and Fleet The Dice Game - my favorite roll and writes

- Spaceshipped and Wonder Tales - two more great ButtonShy games

A couple of games not mentioned that i would add to my list are Beer and Bread, and Caper Europe.
Caper Europe comes in a pretty big box though? I mean, mid size?
@seraphiccandy21 It's no bigger than the Paris box. It's probably smaller.
Beer and bread is great. Love playing that over coffee
Some missing ones I would put on my top 10 small box:
Sail
Sea Salt & Pepper
Ohanami
Tiny Epic Galaxies
Tiny Epic Quest
La Granja No Siesta
Oh My Goods
Port Royal
Three Sisters / Fleet The Dice Game
Circle The Wagons
I also enjoy Skulls and For Northwood. I would probably add Cat in the Box and No Thanks onto this list. I know No Thanks doesn’t have a ton of depth, but I haven’t had a bad game of it and have played quite a bit.
The Crew was the first game you mentioned that I also love
Thanks for the list. Keep up the great work
Surely High Society gets a mention here.
The only one I have off this list is Skulls of Sedlec. Definitely gives me more to consider. Thought about For Northwood when the campaign was live but I typically do not like trick taking games and was wondering how well a solo one would work. Appreciate the video as always!
I like For Northwood but I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who doesn’t like trick takers.
Oh my Goods, Knarr, and Star Realms Frontiers are my fav small boxes at the moment
Similo is probably my favorite small box game. Bandido is also great
My small-box games list would include:
San Juan
Cribbage
Mü
Citadels
Starship Catan
Legend of the Five Rings TCG
Star Realms
Freight Train
Race for the Galaxy
Marginal for size:
St. Petersburg
The White Castle
Top 12 of 10, let's Go!
There’s an obvious glaring omission from this list….inheritors
Just One, Caper Europe, High Society, 7 Wonders Duel, For Sale, Targi, Skull, Sea Salt & Paper, Sushi Go, the Crew
Just a pronunciation note bellow line from Czech native speaker. You pronounce Sedlec like there is TS at the end and not C 😉
For me, there's
Scout!
One Night Ultimate Werewolf
Fixer
6 nimmt!
Viking Seesaw
Prey Another Day
Vira Mors
Stick Collection
Tiny Epic Dungeons
Fantasy Realms
Does final girl count? Always fun. I got 20 strong from your recommendation, and I love it.
20 Strong is so, so good!!!!
Skulls Of Sedlec is even better with the Champions, Merchants, Zealots expansion, letting 3 or 4 players build a normal size pyramid. Arboretum is my favorite small box game right now. The Onirim Universe games would also make good small box games.
Too big, probably
@@MadMark118 10x10, I was guessing it’s the same as the other Devir game he chose, but perhaps not.
the light in the mist, one deck dungeon, mini rogue, dark tomb,
and you also forgot the best part of the small box videos!:

I suggest , My gold mine from Iello.
I have Paris, Hanamikoji, Air, Land & Sea and Coloretto and they are all great. Want to play (buy) Skulls of Sedlec.
Oh, if you love Scout, you should try Nanatoridori.
That would annoy me too. I hate when logos detract from the aesthetic of the box art. Part of the fun on owning games is displaying them!
Thanks for sharing.
I agree Northwood is awesome.
I like White Castle and Warp’s Edge a lot. I consider them small box games.
Trio 😘
Thx for all your videos !

Hi Alex, you have multiple videos on game tables, but none of them features the table in this video here. May I ask which table this is? Thanks!
For Northwood is created by a Filipino game designer 🎉
Mindbug is an awesome 2p game
I have The Crew and I do like it but do I need The Crew Deep Sea if I already have The Crew? Is it really that different?
No
The mechanism changes from looking for specific cards in specific order to a more flexible system. We've played both, and I initially liked Deep Sea better because of the flexibility, but after several play-throughs, I now lean more towards the original The Crew. YMMV.
Homie left out cockroach poker
It's great, but not a 5 out of 5 :)
Have you tried Compile yet? Seeing how you like Air, Land and Sea...
I tried it way back when it was a prototype, I need to play it more
I feel like you either love or hate Faraway. Its legit a good game but i hate it so much. The backwards planning things does not make my brain happy...
Next up best big hox games? 😉
Ohanami
21:58 I enjoy your videos but boy you speak quickly! 😂 When you are excited you speak too quickly for me and I can't understand what you're saying 😂
Another list where the top game is one you can't find anywhere....
I don’t know what part of the world you are in, but Walmart is selling for northwood. Like, come on dude. How much effort did you really put in to finding a copy? More or less than the amount time it took to type this comment? Amazon is selling copies. BGG has sellers.
First!
