I am about 75% of the way through Artisans of Splendent Vale and we are really enjoying playing it on the couch. We do battles on the coffee table but otherwise we are wrapped in a blanket with our character books. I think that is by far the best way to enjoy it because it makes the game extra relaxing and enjoyable.
Townsfolk Tussle has been one of my most anticipated games for a while now, but like you, I couldn't find it anywhere. I ended up backing the expansion on KS and adding the base game. It all just arrived last week, and I'm hoping we'll get it to the table soon!
Not sure if I already commented this, but Townsfolk Tussle is actually available at Mission: Fun and Games in Edmonton. You can buy the base game there and the expansion bundle too if you want. The whole bundle is also available at 401 Games.
Do you guys ever try out old Classics? Medina, San Marco, mogul, Tikal? Any experience with those or that subject? Lately I’m starting to love, trying out older games and taking a break from the new stuff. It’s fun to sort of Wade through the hstory of tabletop gaming.
Boon Lake is a great game. It has a steep learning curve, but after a couple of games it plays very smoothly. My favorite heavy game of the last many years. You get an action on every players turn, so not as much downtime. There is also player interaction so no solitaire.
You guys said it. Playing games with people who's goal is to win at all costs can definitely put a downer on the experience. Game night is meant to be fun, not stressful. Thank you.
Jeff, when you talked about narrative campaign games, I felt that. For me, the experience they offer is unparalleled in the hobby, but I almost NEVER get them played. I’ve had Oathsworn now for over two years and I still haven’t played a minute of it. I bought Vagrantsong after the great reviews I heard, and while the box isn’t as large as some, I haven’t played it. Bigger boxes are tougher to play. I still haven’t completed a full game (2/3s) of Sleeping Gods with Distant Skies also on my shelf. And while Freedom Five isn’t straight campaign, that was a big selling point. I’ve got other titles coming, and I need to convince myself- really convince myself to play what I have. I’m so tempted to back Awaken Realms new Lands of Evershade, but I will resist. I just have to continue resisting. I’ll never have time for all the games. So, while those story games are my personal preference, I must resist. 🙂b
Only one that isn’t a Garphill game that I was MORE than ready for, was Unconscious Mind. I got it a couple weeks ago but just opened it this past Sunday. Have not played, but wow! The art is better than I was even expecting and it’s up there with Dwellings of Eldervale for games I was most grateful to have backed on day 1.
You can print and play Fliptown btw. It's best at solo or 2p. It's good for 5, max 10 plays then you've seen everything it offers. It's 30 min a game roughly.
So happy I went to Essen this year and secured myself a copy of Bone Wars (although they were going out of business they did have a booth there selling off stock, there were plenty of good deals for their older titles), I really enjoyed it. Windmill Valley is fantastic, though, really recommend it. I'm a sucker for gears in games and they are really fun to play around with in that one. Also picked up Unconscious Mind, another fantastic game :)
If only we all had 200x more hours to play all of the games we are interested in and already love, but we do the best we can. Skyrise was definitely one of my most anticipated as well, and yes, it did not disappoint. I wasn't too surprised since it's based on an older Ystari game, Metropolys. Assyria is another old Ystari game that is getting a work over from the Garphil team for 2025....the next on my anticipation list.😊
Rallyman Dirt is a very good racing game. However watch some videos of the World Rally Championship to under stand how rally racing works. You do not race together like in HEAT. Cars are flagged off at intervals and are scored by the fastest time. You race the clock, not each other directly. Also it has a unique (nicer to say than weird) movement system that is perfect for this type or racing. You will have to play this a few times to understand it.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned, but the new Root factions will be released Q1 in 2025! They are great additions and can't wait to play them on the app. Thanks guys for your fun videos!
I backed Endless Winter and was so excited about it, but I ended up very “meh” on it as well. I felt like I did so much in my first play and didn’t feel any real tension, so I was fine with that one play and just moving on.
For others that feel similar: give the official variant a shot where you only get your last worker in Round 2 or 3. That improves the experience a lot.
I think Jeff's teach and play rant can just blanket apply to pretty much any non-tournament setting. We're adults playing with toys - it's literally just a game. If you're not having fun, you're playing wrong.
I never tried hickory dickory, despite it looking very cute and interesting. It didn't seem to do well with critics. I might need to hunt down a copy. Another great video, very fun looking back and seeing where some older games are at or if they are still to be released.
I gave Mike and Nick a copy of Townsfolk Tussle TWO YEARS AGO and they still havent played it - you can feel free to claim it. Make them pay for shipping.
Totally agree that holiday themed games are just a playable year round, but the public says "nay, heathen". That said, it's odd how Final Girl has completely transcended the "spooky season" rule - heavily played year round by a rabid fan base.
Mythwind also did not hit for me. i thought it was going to be perfect because i like soloing games, but i think this one taught me that im not someone who likes the open world so much
(Warning: Somehow I got *very* chatty in this comment!) First - I hope your water situation settles back down! I've played A Gest of Robin Hood on BGA a couple of times. If you want an easy win, play me there! (I am REALLY not good at that game!!) I got to play Windmill Valley last month and it is SO GOOD! You definitely need to give it a shot. :) I want Age of Comics SO BADLY. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it comes back. I've got the PNP version of Fliptown from early in the year and it's really good. Good enough I want to get the official printed version when I can. I got to play ARCS the same day I played Windmill Valley and while I can objectively admit it's a good game, it just didn't click for me. I like Ark Nova but I don't really understand it at all, so I'm very very bad at it. I've got a physical copy that was gifted to me and I should try playing that instead of on BGA where it does everything for you. Maybe it would click then. I backed the reprint of Mythwind and will be getting it early next year - but I bought it for a solo game, so I can't WAIT to play it! I've watched 1 playthrough of Endless Winter and it looks really good, I just don't know if I'd get it to the table often enough to buy it. I only started getting into board games this year, so my anticipated list is tiny. My most anticipated games are, in order: Luthier, Mythwind, and Storm Raiders.
I think you need to describe your living habitat where your water comes from a well. I thought you lived in Canada. Are you living in a cabin in the wilderness?
organize your list start with games that you have played, and then provide your opinion and then games you did not play at last, this way you can spend more time providing insights on games you played

Makes total sense!! Thanks for sharing that!
Really fun to loop back around! I love the concept of reflection back on previous videos!
Also very impressed yall played as many of those as you did
Thanks for doin what you do ❤️
Thanks for watching!!

I really enjoy this "looking back" lists. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am soooo excited for Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the second Era.
Ark Nova on BGA is so fun. I have way too many solo plays for this.

shouts out to the Ask Jeeves reference
We out here!
I totally forgot Ask Jeeves existed. It brought me back

Great rendez-vous!

oh no! so sorry about your well! Hope you are able to source water soon… we had our well run dry, and was not pleasant😖

stay strong. i used to live on a well so know way too much about repairing pump switches, etc
It’s brutal!
Great time to visit your local swimming hall!
We have and really enjoy Rolling Heights. So much fun to roll the meeples 🙂
Our friend has it and it's very unique and super satisfying to build out
Yonder looked awesome, I backed it on Kickstarter, can't remember the delivery date but expect it sometime next year.
Hey guys great video , fellow canuck.
Sand really isn't difficult, I highly recommend tabling it. Much simpler than Salton Sea.
Good to know!!! Thank you!
If only we all had 200x more hours to play all of the games we are interested in and already love, but we do the best we can.

Have y’all played Bark Avenue? What are your thoughts? Good for 2 players? Thank you.
We have! We have only played it at 2 and we really enjoyed it :)
I'm pretty sure Fliptown is available to purchase now, but I bought the print and play version and it's a really great game
luuuuuuuuuuurve Bardwood grove! imo it's best at 3
Awesome!! We’re excited to try it

Bone Wars will be available in limited quantities, or so they say. Game Brewer has officially shut down and is selling off their inventory
Windmill Valley is one of my favorite games from this year!
Fiddly scoring aside, Boonlake is a great game. You guys should play it.
I backed Endless Winter and was so excited about it, but I ended up very “meh” on it as well. I felt like I did so much in my first play and didn’t feel any real tension, so I was fine with that one play and just moving on.

Definitely sending you Hunt for Blackbeard, in Q1. Or at Circle DC.

I do think the overly Christmas themed games can be tough to hit with people
You mentioned liking pick up and delivery. What are some of your favorites?
One difficult to get these days but very fun is black fleet. Is on a entry level.
Did y’all find Bamboo to be hard to learn? We were excited to play it but the rules seemed like a lot so we still haven’t learned it 😅
Its been so long since I learned it but I don't remember it being too too bad for us!
Love Alpenglow :)
I gave Mike and Nick a copy of Townsfolk Tussle TWO YEARS AGO and they still havent played it - you can feel free to claim it. Make them pay for shipping.
I will see them soon, and show them this for you.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - Aang's Destiny Own it, played it and i am liking it. Also Clank Legacy 2, bought it, but still waiting for it to show up.
Return to dark tower is so good!
Totally agree that holiday themed games are just a playable year round, but the public says "nay, heathen". That said, it's odd how Final Girl has completely transcended the "spooky season" rule - heavily played year round by a rabid fan base.
The title of this video should be, "games we haven't played"
What do you mean?
Did you play Middle Ages 2 player? I haven’t heard good things about the 2 player experience?
We did!! We enjoyed it, but we’ve ONLY played at 2 so I don’t have anything to compare it too. I will say at 2, you’re not really hindered at all.
I wasn’t sold on mythwind either, so not just you :) still waiting on unconscious mind lol that one is very anticipated for me still
I hope you like it!! We haven’t had a chance to try that one yet
Mythwind also did not hit for me. i thought it was going to be perfect because i like soloing games, but i think this one taught me that im not someone who likes the open world so much
Rolling heights is an excelent game, you should try it
Jeff - I remember she didn't bring it up!

If you have the all-in Rallyman Dirt pledge we can talk trade. I have Sniper Elite.
We don’t! And we’ve found a copy of SE! Thanks though!
I love hickory Dickory but can’t get people to play
Yea feel that one!
I think you need to describe your living habitat where your water comes from a well. I thought you lived in Canada. Are you living in a cabin in the wilderness?
We do live in Canada ha in a small town, everyone in our area is on a well unless they live in a bigger town or city
Omg Meeples and Monsters sounds like it was a rough play. Come on people! 🤦♀️
It was haha
