Super late to the party, but thanks for pointing out where the air was coming from at the end. Currently dealing with this on my mk6 gli. I had a dead miss, no compression in cyl1, 100 leak on intake side from a broken spring, but I also heard it coming out of cyl2. Figured it was probably a bad intake manifold or gasket after seeing the condition of it. Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

My pistons have created scarfing in my cylinders. It’s due to the carbon build up. I’ve cleaned all the carbon out then replaced the manifold to make sure shits new. It’s not a theory that carbon build up can chip off and cause scratch’s in the cylinders it can also damage valves. Some off those chucks are rock hard. I put a camera threw my spark plug holes/injector holes and you can see that’s the case. I’ve replaced my k03 with a k04 there was also a small layer off carbon buildup on the exhaust valves and threw out the manifold on the k03. Awesome videos man. Keep doing you. Fuck the haters

I am trying to justify buying a lift and more special tools ... But I am just a hack, not a true professional like yourself!! When I was doing my carbon clean this winter, I rotated the motor forwards and then backwards without even thinking about it 🤦♂️🤦♂️. Wasnt very far, but I am sure it doesn't need to be that far to cause damage if you have a loose chain. Fingers crossed.
Worst part on the 5.2 in the s6 / s8 is it can leak oil from the upper oil pan tray or whatever you want to call it. If you have an actual oil leak I would look at that
@@NaptownTuner Yessir! My DIY carbon clean revealed the leaks under the intake manifold. It's been a process, but I've replaced the o-rings and gaskets on the top of the motor. I've even done the valve covers, injectors, and a completely new intake manifold. I bought a new oil separator after your video (I could blow air both ways through it, while the new one only allows air one way). After all that, one of my hpfp's started leaking from the n276 valve ... So I bought a new one of those as well. I think the cam carrier gaskets are one of the last missing links (oil in the spark plug wells) ... Along with a driver-side CV axle (rebuilt). Maybe I can get this thing back to its former glory! That is the hope anyway. There will never be another V10 Sedan. Anyway, your videos are an inspiration. The knowledge you drop is awesome.
Tech tip: always start by puttting on a batterycharger so the battery is full before you crank to compressiontest. Full battery ~ 12.7 volts Empty battery ~12.0 volts Great contrent as always! 👍
When 3 is on TDC compression, 1 is at the bottom of power, getting ready to exhaust, therefore the exh valve is starting to crack open ... open to the exhaust manifold same as the damaged #3 ex valve is leaking into, therefore air is venting all the way out to the tailpipe from #3 & #1 at the same time..
Wow great video.. so is there an exhaust valve or both on cylinder 3 that isn’t sealing? I would not have thought it was a dead cylinder based on exhaust side?? So to me that means raw gas was being injected into #3 and it wasn’t burning but it had to be going somewhere “probably into the exhaust manifold “ please let us know what you find once the cam tray comes off.. based on how it sounded when you drove it from Carmel I wouldn’t have suspected a broken valve spring.. great lesson on leak down 👍🏻👍🏻
I have a fsi 2.0 I just picked up for cheap, I had done a leak down and compression and found the same problem, leak on the exhaust valves Clyinder #1. The spark plug was wet and not firing, I am expecting to pull the cylinder head soon.

Hey so I had put new pistons in my 2009 a4 2.0 due to a cracked exhaust valve melting it, got it put back together and it locked up after an hour of running and bleeding coolant out engine never reached high temp and ran great ended up being the water pump balance shaft seizing up apeared that there was good amount of lubrication in the head so I put a new one in and it just locked up again and going to assume that the balance shaft has again locked up again not sure how to privately message you on RUclips, would like your advice
@@NaptownTuner I had the whole bottom end rebuilt with new bearings and seals from a local engine rebuilding service he didn’t replace the oil pump, wasn’t sure if that would cause the balance shaft to seize up before any other issues oil gets to the head judging on the oil under the valve cover
I’m still a starving artist on my own so I need to keep it simple for the money to come in before I can expand. I used to work on everything at the dealer

Usually the camera itself or the wiring sometimes a factory scan tool or equivalent helps

I wouldn’t have anything for you, needs a complete tear down, might have had some trash somewhere that wasn’t cleaned out good enough

is the pcv valce hose o ring bad it appears to be leaking oil into that little valley with the bolt to the left of cylinder 3
I think that was the little spill of the Lucas oil he dripped on the PCV breather assembly prior to the wet test.. I noticed that.. haha
