    @NaptownTuner !!!
I did it! After watching many of your videos, I just finished rebuilding my 2.0T for the oil consumption issue!! First rebuild ever, and now I'm back on the road. I took my time and planned and ordered parts for about 1.5 months leading up to it. And then I spent about 4.5 days on the rebuild, using Wossner forged pistons - a perfect replacement because they are the latest waffle ring design, and they maintain the 21mm wrist pin so that I could reuse my (2010) OEM connecting rods.
Thanks so much - really appreciate all of the great content and knowledge that you've provided.

I am(was)a Ford Master tech 15 years. I am a "back yard" now. You remind me of my journeyman. I love the way you talk and operate. Hell. I hated working on Audi's. I had my first loss of compression (piston 2, valve burned a hole) anyway. I didn't want to do the job, lack of knowledge. I struggled and after a few channels I found you. My Angel with the pretty hair. I finished the Job 2 days ago. Man. I am pussywhiped, but for TFSI. I long for more. What you do is invaluable. I live in South Africa. Labour on Audi's are expensive. I did my best job possible. Thanks to you, I saved myself from the wrong tensioner, upgrade timing chain, timing, timing cover. F..k. Thanks to you I made good money. Thank you.
P.s I know the video is a year old, but you changed my workshop forever.
    Your no.1 fan.💕

I have a 2012 Audi A4, obviously the oil consumption issue was not addressed for that model year. I purchased the car new in March of 2012. My car started consuming a qt. of oil every 500 miles driven at around 45k. Finally had the rings, pistons and timing chain replaced last fall when the car hit 58K. Car runs great, now. No oil consumption and with the recent addition of a CTS intake, down pipe, CTS intercooler, IE aluminum intake manifold, and custom tune. You’re the man, you know your 2.0 liter motor!

So glad I’ve found your channel. I’ve a 2019 Golf R. It was an ex demo and had 2k miles. It’s munching oil at 1ltr per 1k miles. The dealer has told me it’s normal!
My wife’s VW 2003 V5 sport is now 17 years old. We’ve owned the car from new. I was warned about potential oil consumption by the dealer. I decided to go old school and ran the engine in for 500 miles and didn’t take the revs above 3k. Then I asked the dealer to change the oil at my expense. They refused saying it wasn’t due for a service. I then took the car to an independent and had the oil changed. The oil is changed every 5k miles, 17 years later with 190k miles there is no oil burn at all.
I’m certain that car companies are fitting inferior internals and mixed with harsh early life driving, is making them burn and consume oil.
    Best wishes from Edinburgh, Scotland.

On my 2010 audi a4 oil consumption was so bad that every 350 Km I had to add 1L of oil I have never seen anything like that or ever heard! and I have been driving all sorts of cars in my life this one was the worst ever. What the heck were Germans thinking? I have installed non wafer style oil control rings with $140 ebay malhe pistons on my 2010 audi a4 , but I knew about the problem with the piston rings so I did something on my own and took a chance, I enlarged all of the holes around pistons with a drill bit slightly larger, put engine together , now I can't believe the results I got , now I don't even top it off because every 5000 km it only consumes 1/4 of a litre it's mind blowing and I am so proud of my self . Dealer will tell you that 1L every 1000 km is normal that is bullshit they are just covering it up for their unengineered piston rings period. I should also mention that I have deglazed the block sleeves with silicon carbide flexhone bit . I want a comment back if you agree or I just got lucky on the modification. So far I drove 82000 km since then and no top offs, I change oil evary 7000 km Mobil sinthetic eoropean grade
OW40. I just had to share my story , thank you so much, I picked up some of your trick which I am grateful for.

I've used Kolbenschmit and Mahles in my aircooled VW builds over the years. Good parts.
I hated working on TFSI engine at the shop. The concept was good, but parts quality from the factory not so good. Especially the cam bridge. Once those screens fail, your head is shot. We had lots of chain tensioner failures as well.
That's an awful lot of carbon in the oil control rings. Seems like a combination of lack of frequent oil changes/cheap filters, and the inherent build up that of carbon thanks to the direct injection. Unfortunately direct injection is here to stay. My 2001 Audi S4 with 200K miles consumes less oil than these engines. I had to do the carbon cleanings as routine maintenance. Once you clean the intake ports up with walnut shells you're good for another 40K miles. Good money for the shop, but sucks for the owners.
Great video for the home mechanic trying to understand why their VW's and Audi's break their hearts and wallets.

I have a 2014 Q5 2.0L. I’ve watched practically all of your videos as my ride seems to have all the issues. I’ve spent $6g in the last 3mo, practically everything under the hood has been rebuilt, replaced, updated, etc but it continues to slip or stall every time oil is added (basically 300 miles). I was told by Audi Asheville and my Audi guy the issues weren’t related to the oil consumption, however, I believe it is. We’ve recently done the B12 soak/cleanse to see if it will reduce the oil consumption. I wish I could bring “Jemima” to you, to get your opinion. And FYI, Mahle is pronounced Ma-Lee. I’m from Morristown, TN where there is a Mahle plant, and as a matter of fact, my high school hall passes 25yrs ago were Mahle pistons LOL.

You're definitely killing it in the space you're in. I'm rebuilding my 2011 Audi Q5 starting in a week or so (I already have the front clip off for easier vs faster removal and install) just waiting on a few parts. I ordered the ebay special 23mm rod and updated piston special. And to my surprise they are the latest waffle style rings. I was burning 1qt every 400 miles before I decided to rebuild. I put 30k miles on my Q5 last year. So within a year or two we will see how well the cheap parts hold up. I also do a lot of highway driving and pulling my 4000lb boat. So it will be no stranger to extra stresses.

I personally am not convinced that the carbon build-up is caused by direct injection design - not even in the intake ports. I believe it has to do with the crankcase breather design which is closed loop. vaporized oil and combustion byproducts are being re-introduced back into combustion chambers.

Audi picked the suppliers, agreed a quality standard, and should do sample good ins inspections...dont make excuses for them..

This is why you install a oil catch can most new cars vent oil to the combustion chamber to lower emissions

This is really great content, subbed. I was wondering, is there a way to clean the carbon off the oil rings without taking it apart? I read an anecdote that driving on highway(2.5-3k revs) for 600km on new oil change got the pistons hot enough to get rid of the excess carbon and the car didn't have oil consumption issues for a year. Does this sound possible to you? Also, would fuel/oil additives help the issue in the short term? Thanks so much for the content

Sadly I purchased a mahle branded transmission filter for a 0AW transmission and when it got here I was pretty disappointed with the quality. I'm pretty new to doing any repairs that can't be purchased from my local parts store and I didn't know I needed to go to the dealership to get the spare parts I needed.

Great Video! Question for you. Will a 2013-2016 2.0t engine work in a 2011 audi a4 2.0t tfsi fwd? Or would the VW 2.0t tfsi fit? Thanks again for everything, your videos are amazing and they help the community tremendously. I'm telling people about your channel anytime Audi work comes up. Cheers :]

Kolben = Piston, Schmidt ( Schmied) = Blacksmith... Kolbenschmidt = piston maker. Was the time you spent at the dealership your only experience as a Tech? Or did you work somewhere else first / apprenticeship? Love your content and looking forward to when you get your 100k subs!

I did a 2 year automotive tech program in high school half day then worked as a mechanic at a few shops from 18-23 before finding the “Audi Porsche tech” job on Craigslist wasn’t all that interested in Audi I wanted to be a Porsche tech but the service manager was only hiring for Audi and I got the interview and job on the spot February 2011. I still don’t know anything though (compared to what I feel like I should know). Im working on education big time so I can be a RUclips asset

@@NaptownTuner had you gotten the porsche position, you probably would not be doing the same thing (buying & selling vehicles and starting a youtube channel). The 2.0 audi route was a wise choice!

The compenents were purposely designed for lower friction, they lowered the tollerences to do this. The fix is to replace with a larger piston and a higher tension ring. The replacement design specs are the one found in the VW 2.0

The Ea113 engine you have in front of you had many different versions. BYD, BWJ ect. You want a cdl code engine (better rings pistons cylinder head etc). If you get a good one and look after it you get 280bhp and years of fun.

I would like to see and hear your take on oil engine flush.
I hear people say it’s good and people say it’s bad as the funk can block the oil pick up

Great videos keep up the good work... My daughter's 2014 q5 2.0 is going through a quart every 200 miles. Thought the piston problem was fixed for the newer models. Any suggestions?
