I used to sing this to my babies at night to help them go to sleep. I now sing it to my Grandchildren. I hope they will pass on the tradition. It's my most favorite song of all.
I remember my dad playing this music when i was lil. Now I'm 35 and still tear up when i listen to this masterpiece cuz i lost my dad last year and i really miss him.
Every time I listen to this, I get so emotional and tear up. The first time I heard Greensleeves, I actually wept and couldn’t calm down for a few minutes. I was overcome by a weird sense of nostalgia and even sadness even though nothing was wrong with me or my life in anyway way, it’s very strange. No other song has ever made me feel this way.
That's it, Sarah. This is the feeling that music has on the listener. Higher-pitched songs bring us strength and joy. But the songs modulated for 'minor' chords are closer, more feminine, more sentimental and make us reflect more. Congratulations for your sensitivity ...
Each one of those dots isn't just a star, but hundreds of billions of stars, gas, and debris writhing and spinning around a force so great that light cannot escape. Every second an innumerable amount of stars are born from millions of degrees of heat igniting elements, and an innumerable amount explode violently, giving birth to the building blocks of life. We try to stop and imagine what our universe is like, but in reality our minds can't quite comprehend how vast and how beautiful the real infinity of space. A beautiful song for a beautiful scene.
Alas my love you do me wrong To cast me off discourteously; And I have loved you oh so long Delighting in your company. Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves was my heart of gold Greensleeves was my heart of joy And who but my lady Greensleeves. I have been ready at your hand To grant whatever thou would'st crave; I have waged both life and land Your love and goodwill for to have. Greensleeves was my delight, Greensleeves my heart of gold Greensleeves was my heart of joy And who but my lady Greensleeves. Thy petticoat of sendle white With gold embroidered gorgeously; Thy petticoat of silk and white And these I bought gladly. this song was stuck in my head before id ever heard music, and i never knew why. i only found it 22 years later and recognized it as that mysterious song in my head from my youth.
Few tunes are able to make me emotional the way Greensleeves does. Transports me to a time only my distant ancestors knew. I guess Ann Boleyn never imagined for a second the tune would have such an effect almost 500 years in the future.
This song has graced me and haunted me for my entire life. Why? IDK. I only kmow that it made me feel things as a child that only I could understand. I am an adult now and IDK what I understood back then. I still feel this song as I did then.

Over two thousand years??... are you sure about that bud? Lol sorry to burst your bubble but there is no written music from Europe 2000 years ago, or if there is it wouldn’t sound like this. This song is 500 years old

This reminds me of times in the old days, and its strange that I've never learned or studied about the old days, but I get vivid images of peacefulness . It's weird, im getting images I've never seen before.
@Archie HW Well seeing as this song wasn't made until the 1500s I would say that would be pretty hard to play it "ages" before the 16th century even started.
Auch diese Version von "GREENSLEEVES" mit Flöte und Harfe gefällt mir sehr gut. Dieses gefühlsvolle Liebeslied aus dem England des 16. This does sound rather "non-western" though. It has a Mediterranean sound (meaning west Asian, southern European and North African influence).
There's no need to even mention you're not a westerner. Arabic and Oriental music is beautiful too, or wherever you're from.
