Thank y'all so much for sharing your life with us❤ My husband and I were in your neck of the woods yesterday and stopped by Satterfields and got a few things ❤ some of the most kind folks we have met for sure. We were delivering some sod grass in Murphy NC & we are from SW VA area. Thank you so much ❤
@@walkbyfaith7582 Thank you! I'm so glad you go to stop at Satterfields 😊
Tomato sandwiches, fried okra, corn on the cob, green beans with little new potatoes - the future is bright! Add some fried cabbage to that menu! 😀
😊
Yum I’ll be right over, let me check flights. 😂😂
I do a bushel of stewed tomatoes every year.
And that wonderful cornbread!!!
I planted Cherokee Purples for the first time this year. No tomatoes yet but the vines are big & healthy & loaded with blooms.
Matt you were talking about repairing a water cutoff at Cory’s house, don’t miss an opportunity to show/teach Austin all these things that he has never done. The next generation needs to learn all these things because we will not be here forever to do these things for them. If we keep doing things for them they will never learn. Never miss a teaching moment!
I trust he is doing so. I agree with your good thinking, but when it comes to Austin, no worries. He's clearly been brought up to do things, fix, put-together, harvest, get after it and learn. I want to emphasize I agree with you. Austin is so good, so capable, well brought-up like these Pressley girls were.
Thank you for the nice comments about Satterfield's Briarpatch. The sweet pepper that you got here was called "Horn of the Bull". It is a great tasting dark green pepper, that is an heirloom.
Wow, now that is some great customer service!🤩. TeresaSue 😂
I was hoping you would supply the answer. ❤
Thank you for letting me know what it is 😊
Y'all makin me miss my dear sweet daddy..the crooked row gardener..honestly..I think he did it on purpose to mess with my dear sweet perfectionist mama..lol..they were totally in love but different as night and day..blessings to y'all in every way xoxo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Tipper, I lived in Louisiana for many years and suffered from heat exhaustion many times. I now live in Alaska and while traveling from Louisiana to Alaska, I had suffered from several heat exhaustion's on the trip. Once in Canada, I stopped at a pharmacy for an item and ended up in a conversation with the pharmacist who was from India. He told me that with heat exhaustion the best thing is to drink buttermilk. If you can't abide buttermilk then drink milk. It works! Watching you and Matt working in the heat made me think to tell you this. ~ Deb
Great tip! Thank you 😊
Nothing better than opening up a can of home jarred tomatoes in the winter for a pot of chilie beans!
The grin on your faces when Katie and Corie were hollering at each other spoke so much joy with your family being so close. I’m sure it’s such a great feeling to have all your babies close (by babies, I mean Katie, Corie, Austin, Ira and soon to be Giblet or Gizzard…oh, Olive & Binks of course) speaking of…is Ira Giblet or Gizzard?
Proud for y’all getting so much done on the garden journey ❤️
Thank you 😊
I had to laugh at myself. First, I saw Granddaddies in your heading and the thought jumped on me that this word GrandDaddies, is what the boy will call their Pawpaw! Plural babies and plural grandad!! THEN...I'm listening to your show but was watching my tablet screen. I look up and see Matt and you with your popsicles. Anyway I see Matt wearing Willie Nelson braids!!! It took me a wile to figure out that the braids was his sweaty neck scarf!! I am cracking my own self up!!!!
😂
Sounds like you are having a wonderful day!
😊
😂
Matt looks like he has 2 braids when y’all are eating your popsicles🤣 I realized though, it’s his bandanna 😁
😊
Tommy toes make me think of my daddy. He ate them like people eat nuts or little candies. He’d carry some around in his hand and just pop them in his mouth. He loved tomatoes better than just about anything.
My brother is the same. He likes the little yellow pear tomatoes. He always has a big bowl on his counter and grabs a few every time he passes them.
Love those memories!
I’m with Matt on store bought tomatoes. I can barely stand to eat them!!! My grandma had a huge garden & I grew up on fresh & canned vegetables from her garden. We have a few tomato plants growing here in Oregon. Can’t wait ❤️
Oh I hope they do good!
Store bought have no flavor.
@@pamsam8933 The texture is also different… No matter if they are “ organic” & twice as expensive!!! Better to just wait for vine ripe home grown 👍
@@CelebratingAppalachia We have a few “ U-pick “ farms around us , so there’s always an opportunity for vine ripe tomatoes… There’s nothing though so miraculous as seeing a seed grow into a plant, then bear fruit. I’m pretty sure our Heavenly Father was & is a master gardener since he planted the Garden of Eden ❤️❤️
Where in Oregon? I can't get anything to grow in Sunriver? You must be in the valley.
Tipper, when I was young, we said if you pull the leg of the grandaddy, it would take you to his home. I have to grow stuff in pots now since I am old but I still have tomatoes, green onions, radishes, squash, basil, sage, and lettuce.
Love that!!
I grow things in pots too. So much easier. Less weeds.
Look like ole Austin caught himself a nice trout the other day
😊
So nice to hear "down home" folks on video. I'm from the bottomland of Tennessee and have been in Southern Ohio for decades now, living in suburbia. I miss the farm and the routine of "fix it or make do". I don't know if you had a chemistry class that made sense when you were in school, but my classes led to my becoming a physician and I know a little bit about Epsom Salts or "Magnesium Sulfate".
Never heard to put a handful in soil when planting tomato plants, but it should only help. Not enough Mg++ will cause leaf yellowing or wilt - not as severe as too much rain, but if your soil is acidic, adding positively charged trace minerals can help "sweeten" the soil as my folks called it. Dolomite lime also helps - adds calcium of course, but there is trace magnesium in the lime too. Mg and Ca both stay in the soil for a couple of years, but if you use chicken manure (Nitrogen~30-40%) that leaches out in a few months to one year. So a woman's handful of Epsom Salts can only help the tomato plant and still leave the soil balanced enough for the calcium to be absorbed by the roots alongside the magnesium. They can compete, so too much magnesium will limit calcium absorption and you would see the plants looking "off". Don't know how a woman's handful of Epsom Salts could be too much - now my handful? That is like 3 times a woman's handful! I'm likely 1/3 cup to your 1-2 tbsp of Epsom Salts! Check with your county agent or local 4H club sponsors to have your soil tested if you see leaf yellowing, or stunted growth, or are just curious. It is a cheap means of guaranteeing your crops have all it takes for best growth and strength against pests.
Thanks for the video - brings back memories. We'd have had our field corn planted by now and a garden producing plenty of chores and only hints of future bounty. Ah - the good life!
Peace
I had planned and planned my garden but it wasn't meant to be. My health is a mess right now. I have to have my gallbladder out. The doctor is still doing tests. My liver isn't doing well and apparently your gallbladder is against your liver. Then I got a call about my mammogram... they have found something in each breast. I still have cataract surgery due on my left eye. Please say a prayer for me. I know God is with me. Though I would be lying if I said that I wasn't scared. It just seems like a lot. Thank you all for your prayers. Continued prayers for you and your family. I will enjoy watching your garden.
Prayers that your healing.♥
Prayers going up for a complete healing for you Debbie.
Praying for God’s grace and mercy for you 🙏
Heavenly Father surround your baby girl with your your healing touch. Give her peace. In Jesus name. Amen
Sending prayers for you. 🙏🩸🙏
I love that y’all all live so close. Your girls are so sweet just like their mom and dad. Can’t wait till those grand boys get running around 😂
Oh man, how could you not mention how amazing your cabbage is doing?!?! Matt and Corie came up with a winning idea with the weed barrier and the netting. There's going to be a plethora of slaw this year! What a fun video, Tipper! The garden shaping up nicely.
I’m going to do that with my cabbage next year. Seems the hoop thing works well
Just have to share that I had my first tomato sandwich from my little plants I put out! All thanks to you guys! The grow bags are the bomb! I also have a few plants of watermelon and Cantaloupe. They are covered in blooms, so hopefully we will get a few anyway. :) If nothing makes anything to actually eat, I have had fun growing it. The plants are so pretty. My hubby helped me a LOT. Due to my maladies, I couldn't do it without him. Thanks!
Yay! Wonderful 😊
Tomato vines really like coffee grounds also.
Thank you for this advice!
I can't believe how quickly things have grown. I also enjoyed the songbirds in the background noise.
Glad to see you got your plants in the ground and your okry planted. I pray great success and a bountiful harvest.
Thanks so much 😊
How in the world can y’all remember what you plant and where it’s planted!! It’s amazing!! I wish I could eat supper at your house everyday!!! Love your channel!💚💜❤️
We really like using cattle panels too. I hook bungee cords into the panels to help hold up the tomato plants as they grow. It's so much easier for me than messing with twine in heat of the summer.
I had been looking forward to your video all day long. I've recently been diagnosed with Lyme Disease and it is wreaking havoc on my body. Just thinking about a new video lifted my spirits. Thanks for all that you do! 💝
❤😢
I’m praying for you! So glad you enjoyed the video!!
MATT SHAVED!!! He looks like a young boy very nice looking!
Y'all's Garden Is Looking Good. I Always Love To See Everything Grow,Produce A Bounty.... God Bless Y'all 🙏
Thank you 😊
Plant those tall tomatoes sideways with just a little bit of the top sticking out and they will do great
Hey Matt, night fishing for catfish can be a blast! 😉😉😉😉
Lots of fun! I'm glad I stopped by! 😊
God bless all here!
I hope Y'all know as an E. Tennessee mountain
Girl I absolutely Love this Channel. It makes me feel at Home & brings back good memories. Y'all live the life alot of us now Dream of. Hugs for Baby Ira.❤️🙏
I’m so glad! Thank you 😊
Matt is hilarious with his “lick on a pine limb” quip. 🤭
I got my garden ready today tomatoes cucumbers okra squash butter beans pintoes to I just love it
That is great!
When you made mention about using string with your maters, I had a flashback of seeing that when I was little. I think it was at my parents house. Have you heard of a saying, "Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill"? I grew up with that one. Love you💖,family and videos!!!!!🌈💕🙏🙏😀😘🕊
That is a saying my mother often used, years ago! And she had a point, too!
😊 Love that! That saying is very common here 😊
Y'all have a great looking garden great video thanks for sharing 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Our pleasure!
Yummy homegrown tomatoes have a good tomatoes sandwiches and God bless everyone ❤️
My granny liked Italian Big boy, Beefsteaks, Brandy wine and German Johnson Tomatoes.
Y'all are so cute! Nothing better than veggies from the red clay in the mountains.
LOVE a tomato sandwich! I can’t wait! God bless y’all! 😀❤️
Hey there , Thanks for sharing ! Y’all are such hard workers. And your so good at sharing w/ Granny & Corie.❤& Prayers
We appreciate you!!
Tipper/Matt,
My wife & I share your joy & humor in your Appalachian quips & quotes. We REALLY laughed when you said, “…….Matt’s come unfed.” It is so funny to us that we have adopted it in our Texan household. A few of my favorites from my Appalachian-influenced grandmother are: “you better git in here & git eat!”, “Boy, you went thru that like Grant thru Richmond.”, “ I’ll slap you to sleep!”, “He don’t know shoe polish from Shinola.”
😊
Love your OKREE T-shirt! 😊
Thanks! 😄
Mark one more task off the garden list. Matt done cleaned up for the summer. You gotta give him a furlough to go fishing. He's looking peeked.
😊
“It s got rather warm.” Matt is melting faster than his popsicle. 🤣
Yummy!!!!!❤🤍💙 I love when you guys make tomato sandwiches!!! I am glad you found the time to get the planting done.I know you enjoy eating all those tomatoes and we all love watching you eat those delicious sandwiches!!! Have a great memorial dayweekend.❤🤍💙🇺🇸
Matt's comment about the pine, was so funny. Love your videos
P.S. we need a “Don’t be juberous.” T-shirt! 🥰🥰🥰
That would be a good one! 😊
Your garden s are absolutely beautiful 😊
Great to see everything coming together! I hope Matt does go fishing soon. I am a big fishing lover. You get so wrapped up in all the chores that you put off the fun stuff. I just have to make myself put a half a day aside and just go fishing. I am a little older than Matt and have been retired six years but found out real quick there is always something to do whether its gardening, repairing stuff around the house etc. So I make it a point to do something I love and just schedule it in. I do realize sometimes you just can't, but I try.
Anyway.....thanks so much for sharing.
that is good advice! 😊
So glad you got those Tomatoes for Matt. I'll be watching to see him get his first Mater sandwich.. Praying for granny.. God bless❤️🙏🌹
My tomatoes are blooming. I can already taste the mater sammiches with Duke's mayonnaise and black pepper
Woohoo! Y’all got a hug garden up around your house! Y’all going to be eatin good with all them delicious veggies.
Those raised beds Matt redid sure look sharp. Your yard and garden are just so pretty. You are so blessed not to have to water your garden most time. By the end of garden season I’m tired of watering and fighting 100’ hose. We planted our green beans and our new 75 strawberry plants yesterday and last night and this morning got almost an inch of rain so those are settled in well. Wish I could have got the rest of the garden in but at least I got that done and it’s a blessing. TeresaSue
I’m so glad you got it in before the rain 😊
lol so cute you guys call daddy long legs “grand daddy’s ” ❤
It will be great to see Matt pick the first tomato. We too really enjoy the fresh tomatoes and bounty from the garden.
This garden will produce some good food for your family. There's nothing like fresh veggies...🍅🥔🌽🌶🫑🥬🥒🧅❤
I still say you are going to have abundant vegetables, wish I lived next door to you to help you eat your okra, I look forward t seeing a video from you and Matt every day. 😊
It's the Magnesium in the Epsom salt that helps the plant. I grew up using cattle panels, it's the only way I've ever done it. I have at least one ripe tomato, it's getting hard to wait at this point 😄 I eat hundreds of tomatoes over the Summer, but when we use a jar of our home canned tomatoes in noodles and tomatoes, there's nothing like it.
Matt should have went with you and Corrie to the lake and fished while you girls were promoting the cookbook since Austin was there too.I’m sure Katie and Ira would be just fine and you all were only an hour and a half away.
I wish I could plant as fast as you did in your fast forward video. Everything looks so nice.
It’s so rewarding to get your plants in the ground. Was in Asheville last week and went to Farmers market. They had some Cherokee Purple tomatoes…so good!
Thanks! For gramma. I drive an eighteen wheeler for a living .. or trying to make a living with it.. it's not goin so well. It's a struggle. Keep smiling . I enjoy watching yall and gramma . Prayers . I miss my mom soon to be a year . She got her wings. .. let me know if you get this for her. And I'll keep in touch.
Bless you! I will pray for you!! And I will make sure Granny gets the money 😊 so glad you enjoy what we do!!
If only it could stop raining long enough for me to plant tomatoes. We need rain I know but my goodness we have had soooo much rain here in south central Kentucky! It’s storming outside right now. My poor flowers are so pitiful looking. They’ve been blistered several times over the last 3 weeks from getting rain then the sun pops out briefly and the little petals and leaves get burnt. I’ve got several family tomato plants to get in the ground. This seed has been passed down from generations. I dearly love traditions and country living here in the foothills of Appalachia 🌻
I hope you get some dry weather!
Everytime you mention tomato sandwiches my mouth waters and I get hungry. I LOVE mine on white or potato bread, with miracle whip dressing on the bread (instead of mayonnaise), then a few slices of home grown tomatoes, and some salt & pepper and a shake or two of dried dill on the tomatoes. Oh man oh man! (Like we say here in Texas, it'll make ya want to slap yo Momma)! 😅
I can’t wait to get the first tomato for a sandwich I’m like Matt I love my tomatoes🙏🏻🙏🏻🫂❤️
I always put Epsom salt and plant tomatoes really deep it does make the plant strong! I know Matt can't wait for the Cherokee purple tomatoes. I put mine in the ground about a month ago there really big and have tomatoes all-over just waiting for them to ripen.Hope you all have a great evening!
That is great!
Your garden beds look really good. I have not planted any cucumber yet ( one of my favorites & so easy to grow, but I forgot to get any) but now I need to get radishes and cucumbers. Thank you for the information, and on planting tomatoes with a hand full of epsom salts. I remembered that you added something to it but couldn't remember what. I have a few more tomatoes that are not ready yet so I will try the epsom salt with them. I watched Janet Smart's video last week about planting their tomatoes & they added lime to theirs. My husband remembers that (a little lime) is what my dad added to his tomatoes. He helped Daddy do that when we were dating, I have no memory of "helping" my parents in their little garden at all. Hearing Katie & Corrie call out to each other is sweet.
Tomato sandwich is a great lunch to anticipate!
Old Chinese proverb says “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Same is true with teaching them to do plumbing, sharping lawn mower blades, etc, they will have those skills for a lifetime.
Have you managed to keep the crows away from the germinating corn? I think that your gardens are going to be very successful! Thank you Matt and Tipper for sharing your space with us! How’s Granny doing?🙏❤️🇨🇦
Thank you Gary! We have so far 😊 and she is doing good 😊
Just really enjoy tomato sandwiches on sourdough bread- like my Mommom’ sandwiches. 😍😋😋😋😉
I remember Mikie!😄 I live your garden,it looks so nice and I can't wait to see the fruitful bounty that you grow! Tomato sandwiches!🥪 😋
Tipper I am just a little bit envious....I don't believe I can grow okra in southern Idaho. Fried okra is just about my favorite food.
Love every video!
Donna.
What a lovely variety of tomatoes. I do Epsom salt but put it in water for the first few waterings. When we moved to San Diego CA, years ago, there was a vining plant on the ground. My mom knew it was a tomato plant and we did get tomatoes from it. Can't do that here, slugs will get them. Matt - go fishin'!
I have layed my tomato plants down in the hole and all those little hairs or roots take off.....but that's only when they get really big.... happy gardening....
if i wear mat i would get me roof to attach to that roll bar to keep the sun of him
I'm so glad you got the tomatoes and ocree planted!😊
Thank you 😊
I planted Cherokee Purple, Old timey yellow, German Johnson, Bonnie Best. Also, Black Cherry and real old timey Tommy Toes that I got from MI Gardener. I hope the deer leaves the Black Cherry alone this year. No more sweet potatoes that attracted the deer last year. I grow in beds and containers only.
My husband always uses Epson salt when planting tomatoes . Happy gardening
get a platform with a water tank and pump creek water in it and use it to water plants with soaker hoses
So happy and excited to see the plants in the ground. It shouldn’t belong till harvest. I can’t wait to see tomato sandwich video.
Looking Great Tipper and Matt.
Try amish paste tomatoes them are pretty good size and great for canning
A Granddaddy spider? Growing up in NY we called them Daddy Long Legs
Cherokee purple tomatoes are my favorite too😊. Can't wait to have the first BLT with my home grown tomato.
We alway put epson salt in the hole too. Works great. I made the mistake of planting jalapeños next to tomatoes. They were a little spicy😂. I am so ready for a tomatoe sandwich, or a BLT. Well went to the dr today and felt better than i have in a long time. Thank God for that. Planning on that trip still if i keep feeling like this❤. Yall have a blessed week!
Yay! So glad you are feeling better 😊
I have a Cherokee Purple growing in my container garden. I chose it because of Matt talking about how good they are. I have lots of green tomatoes on it. Can't wait until they are ripe.
Hope you like them 😊
My dad use to use twine for his tomatoes and get a stick and tie them up with that.
You are so rich with family and to have them living so close is an amazing thing. What more could you ask for. I just love container gardening. I use old stock tanks and livestock tubs and anything else that would hold soil. Every plant seems to do so much better and no bending over. Your videos make a great start to my day. Thank you so much.
In the pics of y’all with the popsicles, Matt’s bandanna looks like long pig tails😂😂😂 Y’all have a beautiful garden!
Looks like your cabbage is doing great also. We are still hardening off our tomatoes. We jumped into it this evening and got beans and corn planted and cucumbers. Y'all take care god bless.
Yum! The German Johnsons are still my favorite sandwich tomato!
Thought about y’all last night and today bc a storm had knocked down some tomatoes and broke a branch loaded with big green tomatoes… so guess what we had for dinner??!! I picked a few more today to bring to my stepdad and he’s frying them tonight! ❤
I know they were good 😊
Always use epson salt on my tomatoes, and I put a cup around each rose bush at the begining of spring.
I've never met a bad tomato 😊
Not too far down the road from you and have a small garden. Its my puttering area but sure can get a lot from a small spot and few planting bags. Love watching you garden!
A lot of people will lay their tomatoes down and plant them that way instead of planting them deep in the ground,I have never tried that, but its supposed to build a great root system.
Over and over I'm looking out the door thinking my cat wants in lolol
😊
I just ordered your and Jim's cookbook! Some things that I prepare are very similar to yours, but there are enough differences that I will enjoy trying your recipes. Plus, I really enjoy the stories that go with the recipes. God bless.
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it 😊
So happy you got your tomatoes planted. Nothing like a tomato sandwich made with a garden fresh 🍅.
So happy to see you all.
I just planted more Cherokee purple, steak tomatoes, Eva's multi and black krim. More peppers. Crab day. Yippee. I need direct sow more beans. My cucumbers aren't well. What's eating their leaves?
Rain rain here til Sunday. Thunder while I was planting. More okra I think from lowes to go with my seed okra. Something eating it too. Heck.
That all sounds so good! I don’t know what could be eating the leaves hopefully someone will chime in with some tips. The squash bugs that get on ours sort of suck the life from them 😊
@@CelebratingAppalachia I've been told to make shallow bowls of beer to catch the bugs that eat our squash beans cucumbers okra etc.
