Let me give you a tip. Before the paint dries use a sharp edge plastic squeegee to remove 95% of access paint. Then take a polish remover and whip off the rest. Makes it very easy.
It works on about everything with engravings. I only used glock in the title because that's the most popular manufacturer I've seen this modification on and what I was using. Thanks

I've found Testors enamel model paint works well. Lots of good colors options too.

Does it take the black off the finish
No, I haven't had any issues with hurting the finish but I've only done this to glock's and M&p's
I use alcohol to take off excess paint. Acetone can damage the finish.
