I have one since 2013, been through water, mud, blood, hydraulic fluid, fuel, engine oil, i swim in it twice a week, broke windows with it. Battery still shows high. Amazing .
you broke windows glass with it. so the case is tough?
@@akanesoratobu8889 yeah, pretty good considering price. I broke the case around year ago. Still works though.
Bug lotions can remove the painted word, and if I recall texturize the resin plastic case. It wears down over the years anyway.
I bought mine around the same time. Lettering on top is worn off, but it still works great. No battery issues. Very comfortable & light for larger wrists. I would definitely buy another one if anything happened to it.
@@davidr2715 those bug sprays can ruin any watch. can even etch the glass. they should have a warning label on the bottle.
I have worn this watch 95% of the time since I bought it nine years ago in 2013, the battery still shows HI and it hasn't missed a beat. I bought it for $60 on an island in a pinch and I don't regret it.
We live in a wonderful time, $35 for all that. Thanks Nick!
they have it for 25$ on amazon
I got this 4yrs ago for 20pounds from argos
I've worn this same watch, daily, for a couple of years now. It's so worn, it doesn't even say "Tough Solar" on the top bumper anymore lol. It's been a great watch, and takes some heavy abuse and keeps on ticking.
Same here, I have had this watch for at least 5 years (including 2 years of military service) but still works well. The adjust button is now just 'adju' instead of 'adjust' though. Small cosmetics.
Yes, mine too - writing got polished off and the plastic face got a few scratches... but being solar (like a 20 year battery) is really over the top. It's just a really friendly face... great for everyday, but needs switching out to the Timex Fairfield for a bit of dress (also for night time - waking up I can't read the Casio without glasses, but the indiglo is King).
I do agree about Day and Date - they cheaped out on that and it bugs me when I'm checking date buying milk I have to press buttons to see it.
Me too! I've had this watch for 4-5 years now and the labels on the front are worn off, some of the plastic was melted by acetone, swam with it t and it continues to chug on. I bought, what I thought would be, a good replacement, (Casio 5269) and it broke within the first couple months after I wore it swimming. Now I'm back to this one again
Hahaha samessssss
Does the screen scratch?
Casio AQ-S800W mini review here by a fan. I've had this watch and worn it everyday for years. Insane value. Essentially the same as watch reviewed in this video except so much smaller and slimmer for my tiny wrists. Also all the numbers and the hands lume. Everything I could want in an every day office/outdoor adventure watch for a man with women's wrists.
I picked up this watched several years back, I word every day until I got a Garmin Fenix, but it just fit my life style and never went south on me. Excellent for the money and light on the wrist
Had that watch for years. Lives up to the name. Very tough.
Hey, Nick,, Can't believe I'm actually wearing the watch you are reviewing,, !
I mostly like how light this watch is ,.
It's just a great beater watch for rough days...
Also, it's not too big, for my wrist... lol.
Same here, wearing it and loving it - as a beater that is. The light weight is a very prominent feature - only 44 grams. Also you can switch around showing the other timezone (WT) on the analog and showing the local time on the digital. "It's a thing" as Nick would have said. I love the watch. Thanks for the review.
Do you know how to set Alarm in it
Monday's are my fav day of the week for many reasons and Nick Shabazz watch reviews are one of them
I have another version of this watch (same movement, functions and basic design but a bit smaller). These Tough Solar watches are INSANE value for money. I use it as a gym-watch and for when I don't want to worry, washing the car etc. It's absolutely brilliant as a beater, always running, tough, good functionality. Casio is the master of affordable beater watches.
AQ-S800W? just ordered one for that reason
But this one also aq 800 w right?
This has been my daily driver for maybe 5-7 years. Just so you are in context, u got it right after i went into the army, I also do rock climbing with it, i'm a scout and i frankly live for the outdoors. The truth? Its absolutely great watch. I've got a casio edifice too that i used as a more dressy watch but after a few years i've had to replace the batteries as i noted that for a few weeks it started loosing time, stopping randomly and so on never had this issue. Also, as soon as it got scratched it stopped looking as good and it therefore went out of my regular rotation.
This watch?. Forget batteries, forget about maintenance, just wear it and it'll keep ticking.
What about scratches? No issue. It no longer says "tough solar" or "illuminator" in the top and bottom bumpers, but it doesnt really matter. You can see the plastic is all kinds of banged up, but it still works flawlessly. The "crystal" was kinda scratched but i solve it by "polishing it" with an old toothbrush and some colgate paste. So after a few months of use, i polish the watch right after i brush my teeth (different brushes, duh).
I've since gotten out and the watch still works like a charm. It's been through the ringer many a times, its been banged against weapons, dragged through the mudd, submerged with me, its been smashed against concrete when diving for cover in FTXs. Its been dragged through the rocks, banged against carabiniers, gone with me on big whippers (falling from climbing until the rope stops you). its has been covered in blood (i was a medic) and all kinds of shit.
It's a bitch to clean due to the many nooks and crannies it has but oh well, get out a toothbrush or qtip.
I'm getting ready to buy a seiko automatic watch (probably a diver model) but this will still be my go to for anything other than work or university (med school)
That being said you do have the issue of the screen going out if doesnt get solar power for a few hours. Shine a light at it and its back on track + i have never had to set the time since i bought it. 10-15 hours with no light? Still on time. Every 6-12 months i move the watch forwards 2-5 minutes (i like being early and that helps) and then i forget about it.
I had to bring it forwards maybe 2 minutes yesterday after close to a year with it being as i like it.
I bet the screen going out is a power saving measure too, as even when i wake up in the middle of the night i check the time and its still bang on even if the screen is out
Frankly, if i couldnt break it with army use, climbing use, camping use, and generally NOT worrying about it (its meant to be worn, not babied. I may baby an automatic watch, but not this one), i'm sure you cant either (unless you hit it with a hammer).
Its light like a feather, its tougher than nails and you have many features for under 40 bucks.
5 alarms, different time zones so you can check the time at any second (helped me know the time back home whenever i was abroad) and more.
Frankly, i'm ordering a new one with the fastest shipping available as soon as this one breaks.
I've been wearing one of these since early 2014 and it's been through the ringer. Still works perfectly and aside from the white lettering at the top and bottom (TOUGH SOLAR and ILLUMINATOR) wearing off, its still perfect. It's the same UI as many of the other analog/digital Casios at this price point, and it's not too hard to get used to. I think it offers all the bonuses of the $100+ G-Shocks at a third of the price.
I had one that broke after some water got into a crack and it just ceased to work. Loved it so much that I just got another one. It's great!
Did you replace the battery since 2014?
I like the fact it doesn't have G-SHOCK or a big G logo on it that's why I bought it more discreet
I really like the way it can move the hands for the different 48 time zones. I got the higher end model with 200meters water resistance and mineral crystal and it is my go to outdoor watch. Having a nice jewelry watch is nice for indoors with a suit or something, but when you are doing real work you need a tough watch that can take abuse. I would trust this over any mechanical watch any day for a fraction of the cost. It may be big on the wrist but it feels comfortable despite being large because of the strap design. I really like how the strap keeper interlocks with the strap to stay in place. I added a strap compass and it is perfect and has not let me down like mechanical watches have.
This was the first contact I had with Casio watches and I loved it. I was maybe 12 or 13 when I bought one with my dad. Used it for years doing the wils things teenagers do, mechanics with the granddads, LOTS of sportbiking etc. I broke a lug and could no longer use it. I felt kinda sad, this watch looked like the Breitling Aerospace (which I always loved). I still have it and she still runs, just without a strap!
This watch is fire tho, really REALLY good quality for the price !
I don't particularly like digital or dual analog/digital watches, but there is one Casio that I really adore: the Lineage WaveCeptor WVQ-M410DE-1A2JF. It's a solar and radio-controlled all-analog watch for a reasonable price. In terms of functionality, it's very close to the Casio Oceanus, though made from simpler materials and by far not as waterproof. But for less than a third of the Oceanus's retail price, it's a beautiful piece - a gem in its own right.
the smaller variant of this watch is the AQ-S800W, same exact functions as far as i recall but in a smaller package .
Thank you! I think that watch might be just what I was looking for!!
I just ordered the S800 off of Amazon for $25CAD. Bargain!
I have that one, INSANE value. Not a status object, not a conversation starter, but if you want a reliable capable watch, it's almost unbeatable. Solar, analog + digital, shock resistant, 10 bar, 30 bucks, what's not to like?
Awesome review on the watch, i am ordering one the blue colour one already and waiting to get it thanks😎
I have worn this watch since 2015 and it is a beast... I agree with you about the day/date, lumines and the only thing I would like is a compass. Great review
Thankyou for the review can you tell me if this watch has bumpers for the glass.
I’ve had this watch for a couple years, and thus far it has served me well. I will probably replace it in the future just because of how obnoxiously big it is, but it’s a great watch overall.
How do you set the hands to the current time when you first get it? Some Geforce watches have a function to match digital time.
I like this watch a lot and think it would make a really good "beater" at hat price for when I want to keep my nice watch nice. The thing is that I hate plastic bands. They get sweaty and nasty and give me a rash. I would ideally want a nato strap on it, but during the peek at the back side the lug spacing looked really narrow. Am I seeing that right? Would a nato strap work on this?
I bought a g-shock because of you. A rangeman gw-94000. It's coming tomorrow. I (kinda) got into watches.
Is it correct that there is a trimmer screw on the module to calibrate the rate of the quartz movement, like on some g-shocks for better accuracy? Thx
Thanks for not wishing me a tough rest of the day lol
love the Casio's! i just bought a GA-100.... and did a short video on it... not up to par with your videos of course.... but thanks for the inspiration! how about a "one collection" with Casio's??
I got this model in May 2017 and i still use it. And i love it! 😍
What do the bars that count from 1 to 5 mean? (Listed with the numerals 1, 3, and 5,) It is the right of the main digital window.
thats a perfect in depth review....thanks
Ordered one a couple weeks before seeing this vid :) Looking forward to trying it out.
This watch is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know which one to choose. There's this black one with white numbers, a black one with orange numbers, green with orange numbers, gray with orange numbers, and a white one with white numbers.
They all look very nice.
Dude, great review!
This watch is dope I have it in white. Serves its purpose very well. It's not as nice as my g shock, however I tend to rock this more than my g shock for a daily wear.
Hey Nick I have am interesting one for you, if the size is the only thing that’s keeping it a gem, would that mean if they made a “ladies” version of that, would that make that one a gem? Assuming that it kept the same design just smaller. Kind of what the baby-g is to the g-shock.
@NICK SHAB Need a folder,more then 3 inch (cutting) edge ,less then 4. M390 steel only....thoughts?
I run this as my daily driver and I love it. I have a citizen ecodrive (the same that Nick has reviewed) and I love it, but it's too expensive for me to wear to work. This is cheaper, more durable, more useful and looks like a G from a distance. It's brilliant!
Thinking of buying it & equipped it with a bullbar.. is there any gshock bullbar can be plug n play on it? Thanx
I just bought this watch a few months ago, my only complaint is the glass. I would have preferred mineral crystal, but essentially it’s a great watch.
I actually looked to see if you did a review on this watch a few months ago, just to see your thoughts.
Keep up the reviews, especially on watches.
Hey Nick, are those 4 screws actually holding something, or are they just for show? That's a big pet peve of mine.
How long can you use it, before actually changing the battery?
Can a standard 20mm watch pin be used on this model?
"Im the human, im gonna win"
Is my new motto at work
Nice to know that Günther Steiner does reviews in his spare time. Lol! Nice review mate!
Use a tough solar for working in heavy manual job . The wording on the top wears off pretty quick as others have said , but the rest of the watch is fabulous . I have a few watches in my collection , none are very expensive but I often smile when I put this one on . It’s just so reliable , looks a bit like a g- shock . Big plus too is that it’s so lightweight . Don’t be put off thinking that it is flimsy . It’s called tough solar . Definitely lives up to its name .
Great review, thank you. I didn’t realize I have freaking huge wrists 😎
Bought one of these in 2009. Still ticking. Through it in a drawer a couple years ago and recently pulled it out. A little time in the sun and bingo still working.
do you know anywhere i can get an adapter to use nato zulu staps with this?
I got one as an EDC, to substitute for my G-shock Rangeman. It's serves its purpose for that well. If I had a suggestion buy the rangeman 3410 and one of these, works well for me. Remember two is one, and one is none.
I think the design of the band (the way it's curved and its heft) is meant to make it like a shock absorber to protect the watch if it falls.
the other tough solar watch you reviewed can be found in very good condition for $40 used. it has a better looking metal design, a second hand, and better lume. that would probably be the one to have.
Is there a steel version ? Thanks !
Bought this watch because it was a solar and very easy to read the time, even without putting on my reading glasses. Even better than that, it was marked down to 15 bucks at a local store. I should have bought another for a backup. It's one of my favorite inexpensive watches.
You won’t need a backup!
I've got it more then 5 maybe 10 years and it still works
Not bad for the $. I work in an office with a suit so not something I would use as a daily driver. Check out the Casio Lineage LCW-M100DSE (European version has Sapphire for a bit more). It's essentially an analog/digital dress watch with all the Casio digital features. Very well finished. 90% of the Oceanus at a fraction of the cost. 40 mm, 9 mm thick and 44 mm lug-to-lug. I got mine when I found out (from you) that the T-100 Oceanus had a proprietary bracelet-no sale. I have the new T-200 as well and that's sweet but the Lineage has that cool digital display so I kept them both. Love the chrono and World time. Tons nicer than the cheap Waveceptor you reviewed last year (though not too different in function)
Going on my 2nd version of this watch. I put the straps from an AE-1200 on my 810 and it fits like a dream. It brings down the perceived lug to lug to a size that doesn't look comical.
I just wish it would have came with mineral crystal... It would be freakin perfect.
Great watch, unbeatable value and tech for the money, great explanation and video. I'm buying one now. Just wish you wouldn't move the the watch around so much, kind of give me vertigo. Slow it down just a bit. Thanks
Like tactical anilog /digital to, but smaller.
If you don't like the look but like the features you can get a AQ-S800 or a more traditional looking AMW-S850D or AMW-S820D but it has less water resist at 50m.
Love me some Casio tough solar!
I bought mine back in 2019, still works
It's a nice watch and easy to read during the day at night its a different story. I work security at night and it would be nice if it lite up the whole watch. So I went back to my Timex Ironman due to it lighting up the entire watch which is very rugged as well.
Yes Nick it is way too big for me. I have one gshock cost me 28 bucks 6 years ago still wirks great, it is solar , i use it as needed, put it on my bathroom sill for a day. Then it is good to go for way over a month. I check it that often. All One would need in my opinion. Im not a complicated guy. Good review Sir, keep on going strong..
$36 and lume it right!! great review.
Can you do a knife review on the case sod buster please
A fantastic watch no doubt I would've liked a larger window however that is a very minor quibble & this can be worn for both sport/work & dressy occasions.
Great review and l like your style B)
Excellent review
Crystal glass on the front? Mine seems to be plastic. Got a tiny scratch the first day on the job. I may have a counterfeit. Strange since it's a cheap watch. I cant find any comparison vids on youtube for this watch to see if it is counterfeit
The Casio "arch" if you will is designed the way it is to sit nicely on hand/wrist & it serves that function very nicely.
30$ got in discount a years back N used it as I stole it still working perfectly awesome !! With Evey Penny !! When u just need to see time without spending a Fortune Casio is Da best solution ! N this watch I lived in Evey way !
Yo Nick! Great review for a quality $35 time piece...
“Guacamole plate”!!!! Ok, good review. I’ve owned it many years (a decade?). The luminescence is good enough if you charge it every 5 minutes - no way will it make it all night. Eventually the daily charging may not be enough for the digital display at night either. Crystal? Not sure and despite being deep in the tall case, it will get deep scratches, but very usable still. The worst part is that crappy “resin” band - it will break. My second is cracking now too - cracks, yes. DST. Alarms. Keeps time ok, maybe 2 minutes off per year. I still like it because of that solar charging and the price. Looking at new watchband opportunities now.
Got one for $50 at Walmart today, didn’t realize I could get one cheaper lol but still worth it
very nice review - just got the white one for $32 on Amazon - perfect for the beach and fishing days 😎
Excellent video!
This have radium in the arms?
saya pakai jam ni dari 2015. sampai sekarang baik elok Dan battery sentiasa full. betul punya tough SOLAR
Great review
There was never meant to have any "jewelry factor " on this. You're right though, its not built for smaller wrists. Casio has others for that (like the HDC700-3A3V which is smaller & has day & date on same display). Its great for my large wrist & its been 10 years with this watch. No problems.
Yes this adorable watch
This watch are have solar panel with battery? And what about function on this watch?
I own the AQ-S800W, the little brother I might say! Amazing bang pro buck in these watches. Solar for 30 something dollars? Sold!!!
The watch delays by a few seconds after setting the time the previous day. Can someone tell my why?
Love to hear him say “Ovah heah” in that great voice.
Author thanks for this information you are good guy!
Is the lock made of metal or plastic?
Good Afternoon sir, your Casio running in good health? I will buy one for me. Best regards from Brazil, Mário.
I have just bought the latest UK version of this watch. The only luminous things are the hands. What I don't like is that it's difficult to read in poor light. It would be better if the numerals, indices, and hands were in high contrast white against the background rather than grey. I have thin wrists too but it fits nicely over the cuffs of my gloves.
The gloss white one looks bling-ier(?). Mine's been sitting dead in a drawer and took a charge under an led lamp.
I am actually wearing that watch in grey and orange right now.
I just bought this watch a few weeks ago in all gray.
Love this watch
It's solar battery cell can be replaced ?
I had this watch for 5 years then the battery died. Went to Timpson for a new battery but they couldn't replace it. Dial looks great on a sunny day
How much would a Mechanical Watch cost of it had a Perpetual Calender ? Prob no less then $5,000 + Great Review and Video Mr.Shabazz . 👍
I have it five years now ❤
I love your accent - is it NY? Great video, very entertaining.
good cheap watch for camping/hiking/canoeing/etc. something you can beat on and not worry. ugly? yes, but if youre camping, you're not trying to look good anyway. its like a cheap g-shock.
I’ve had one of these for 13 years before one of the straps broke. One of the best!!!!!
Run this thru military condition, sea water, dirt, mud, heat. I hardly took it off. Eat sleep breath this is just amazing
Hey, this watch comes in a wide variety of different colored straps now..
