  • From Season 19 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 16: Chester, Yesterday's Horse which originally aired on March 4th, 1973. It's about the faith of a fourteen-year-old boy in a Belgian draft horse named Chester. Chester was retired from the logging industry when modern equipment became available. His owner, Ben Kincaid (Bill Williams), was injured in an accident and the owner's son, Silver (Jeff Tyler), tried to earn money by entering Chester in a pulling contest. Chester beat the other horses but lost to tractor. On the way home from the contest, the boy and the horse found the lumber boss trapped in a burning truck. Silver attached a cable to Chester's harness and the big Belgian righted the cab so that Silver could get the boss out before the truck exploded. As a reward for their heroic effort, the boss asked Silver and Chester to report to work the next morning. Starring Russ McCubbin as Russ Benson, Jerry Gatlin as Bord Sullivan, Barbara Hale as Belle Kincaid, Jeff Tyler as Silver Kincaid, Bill Williams as Ben Kincaid, Pete Logan as Announcer, Maynard Hadley as Tractor Salesman, and Floyd Gibson as Balloon Operator.

Drafts are making a come back. People still log and farm with them, and more people are riding them.

My old boss years ago when I was a painter use to have 2 percheron draft horses that he kept as basically pets. They were beautiful powerful horses and I would help care for them on my own time before work. When it was time to put them out in the pasture for the day,I would walk them to the gate.I learned to open the gate first...because sometimes when I was leading them...they would get that taste of freedom from the barn coming and they would just bolt for the wide open field through the open gate.I quickly learned that when they did that...to just let go of the reins because their power was just incredible.
My boss would sometimes get upset and say...let them know whos boss...take charge...dont let them just bolt like that.I did try sometimes I could get them to follow my commands...but other times it was futile and I had to just let them go.My old boss has passed now,he was a great old man.Rest in peace Mr. Don Pearl of greenland N.H...

He was in two films: Fire on Kelly Mountain (Season 20) and the two-parter (Trail of Danger) in Season 24. I’ll be uploading that soon! I think this is the film you are referring to!

      I just love these!
Thanks again for uploading and sharing.
Sometimes they are hard to watch more than one every now and then because I find myself crying melancholy tears of nostalgia.

@@kidmack3556 I’m sorry for the melancholy tears! I’m thrilled that you get to relive these films again, however. I wish Disney would read and feel comments like yours. They need to open their heart to our generation and thank us for perpetuating the brand to our children and grandchildren. They can do that by putting all this content out there on Disney+!!!

There was a "blog" I stumbled upon about twenty years ago, where someone had an online petition to suggest that the Disney add a "Disney Classics" channel to the cable or satellite networks.
      I signed it!
But never ran across that website again, so I don't know if the suggestion ever reached any consideration from their programming management.
I remember seeing a website around that same time, suggesting the same for PBS also.
