    Adam, Can I share this video with, the Facebook group, Easy Walks, Massachusett, Rhode Island, and Nearby. Your videos are the type of videos that they would love. They are always looking for new places to walk and your videos take them to places that they might not think to look. :-)

    There are a couple of other great hiking spots on the Cape too... West Barnstable Conservation Area has a huge network of hiking/singletrack MTB trails, Mashpee Pine Barrens and Mashpee River Woodlands, Indian Lands in South Dennis, Punkhorn in Brewster, Thompsons field and Hawksnest in Harwich.

    Sandy Neck did me in. (discouraged me from hiking ever again). Almost had to hitch-hike back .. and those 4-wheeler peeps don't pick up limping hitch-hikers.
    Been planning to check out the Great Island Hike for years. It has been on my list.
    Have also been seeking parking to hike the Pamet area, recently. Looks very scenic. Just can't find a place to park.
    Also exploring the intriguing legal walking trails adjacent to the former Military Base in Truro/Wellfleet. There's no parking. So we have to 100% keep that a secret.

      This was one of my favorite videos to make as well. Yes because the trails were all short and all flat I left my water and bag in my car. They were also done over severely weekends. Not all one day. The average person wouldn’t need the gear so I didn’t want to bring it either. Not mountain climbing haha

      @@AdamHoyt I will wait until the Fall to go out to the Cape. It is a two-hour drive for me. With the Summer traffic, it can be an all-day affair just to get to the trail head. I will start with the Cape Cod Rail Trail along the Cape Cod Canal. I need easier walks and it will be an easy walk for me. Then, I want to go to some of the Herring Runs. But the one that you listed that most intrigued me was the 10-mile dune walk. It looked like training for the French Foreign Legion. I will wait for a cool day to do that one. How much water did you have to carry to do that one? :-)

    For those of us who need Easy Walks (not too many roots or rocks, relativley level and something of interest along the way) it would be a great help if you told us a little more about the trail surfaces, something that seems to get overlooked often in trail descriptions. What great footage of varied trails on the Cape. Love the maps, the trail distances, and honest reviews. Thanks in advance!

    • @AdamHoyt
      @AdamHoyt  3 года назад +1

      Hi Majorie! Thank you for this feedback. I always struggle with knowing how much detail or straightforwardness to included in the guide section of my hikes. I think this sort of information is what I take into account when I make my difficulty designations for the trails. You can get a greater explanation of how I come up with those choices in this video ruclips.net/video/boevw4Us12Q/видео.html
      But for all these Cape Cod hikes the only ones I would say that were rougher in terms of roots and rocks would be the more foresty trails such as, Beebe Woods, Head of the Meadow Loop, Lowell Holly reservation, and especially Cliff Pond Loop. The majority of the rest of the trails get their difficulty from the trail being loose sand vs solid ground. The elevations for all are basically flat except for the large Dune climbs on Dune Shacks trail.

      @@AdamHoyt Thanks so much! Had not particularly thought about firmness of footing, (most trails I visit are not beachy :-) ) but yes, for the Cape, that is a big factor.

    If you miss the tide then can you walk along the spit of land? Just looked possible from your map. How long is it accessible? 🤔 My other question is the lighthouses, can you go in and up to the observation platform for a photo op? I've seen many of these hikes individually but really appreciated your comparison reviews. Thanks Adam.

    • @AdamHoyt
      @AdamHoyt  2 года назад +1

      So the tide warnings and issues only apply to the dike itself. The rest of the land does not get covered up. I cannot speak to if it all truly attaches to make you take the long way around which would take significant more time. But google map shows a break in the land, whether that is accurate or not I cannot say and would not necessarily recommend it as a back up. The lighthouses are not manned on this part of land and are not open to climb up inside. There might be other lighthouses on the cape that allow this type of experience, or heck many in Maine!

      I will also add that during the ‘season’ you can pay to have a small boat take you over or pick you up at the far end near Long Point. When I walked it I had the boat take me over (kind of pricey $20?) and then I walked back towards and over the jetty/dike. I timed it so I would have the max amount of time before low tide to then cross back over. The guys w the boat will explain on this too. It’s a great hike! Example, pick a day that low tide is 2-3 p.m. and get the ride over in the morning and explore all day just plan on starting back over at low tide and remember it takes longer than you would guess because the rocks are often uneven and weird slacking so you will not walk as fast a norma. Enjoy!
