- Every year a fish know as pompano migrates down the Florida Coast from late fall until Early Spring. These fish can be found in massive schools along the beach and are often targeted by commercial fishermen for their high price tag. Florida pompano are one of the most expensive fish sold at fish markets. I spent the day with my buddy Adam from @MovinWeightFishing chasing these fish up and down the coast. We were using live and dead sand fleas as bait.

I started buying Pompano locally where i live in Trinidad upon viewing your channel. I can get them whole with no cleaning for about $1.50 /lb, but they are smaller than the ones you catch. And they are possibly the best tasting fresh fish i get locally. I like that it is very easy to clean and wastage is lower (its fine to do it with skin and even the bones, and have very little gut) than other fish - it fillets much easier than most other fish. Locals here dont really care for it and it isnt that common. Locals like King and Spanish Mackerel (Carite) more than any other fish. I sear them in a skillet mainly on the skin side with butter and lemons.

@@p2tyler791 Do you live in Trinidad? Jody Bowlah fresh sea food, and Dinos - both around couva - ranging from 6 to 10$TT/lb, in the past two months. My daughter who never eats fish i typically make (King, Mahi etc) asks me for Pompano.
And people are paying a fortune to the US government to get into America. How much to get to Your Country ?

The casting conundrum you mention about boat vs bank fishing has allowed me to walk up and catch fish where people have been getting skunked all day. They would be lobbing it as far as they could get it and I would bounce a mullet next to the dock and pick off flounder and drum right under them. I realized the same thing while fishing in my boat one day, “we’re always casting at docks, I’m gonna start just doing drops over the side when dock fishing” and it works!

I’m 66 and my youth pompano fishing was from the surf. Very seasonal at Fernandina Beach but always took shrimp but half the adventure was digging, scratching whatever the fresh sand fleas, remember this was long ago before the tape measure and count limits.
I so remember my parents, the beach buggy and the adventure. Back then there were so many,,,,and they are delicious. Always fried or smoked, given to friends etc.

Great video Vic! And Happy Birthday! You certainly do look to be 32 years old. I will have to book a trip with Adam one day. And will be subscribing to his RUclips channel in a few minutes. Must say that I am surprised that you and Adam do not bleed out your pompano before filleting them. That simple procedure does improve that taste of the fish immensely. Out of curiosity, what do you use to sharpen your dexter knife? I have heard that they are hard to sharpen.
