    I have progress to report. The transmission is shifting perfect after I serviced it. The 02 plugs are sorted. The last " mechanic " that repaired the plug plugged in reverse and he mispinned the plug . I still had a misfire and lights coming on. If you can believe it I decided to examine the MAF sensor sure enough it had build up on interior probe. Clean and reinstall car runs like new again. These cars are very sensitive to vacuum leaks and OEM parts. Lesson learned don't use aftermarket they won't work. As well as spark plugs and coil packs. I wanted to thank you for helping me with advise as a 2 year journey is complete . I cant describe what it was like driving it for first time . Thanks again

      Hi Mike, The upstream sensor connector and its mating half is grey. The downstream sensor connector pair is black. The upstream and downstream connectors should not be interchangeable. This has been our experience on the few that we have done on S Types and XJ8 cars. Hope this helps.

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  3 года назад +1

      Hi - P0174 indicates that there is too much oxygen in the exhaust. It is possible that the 02 sensor is faulty but it could be caused by a number of other things. Have a look at the link below whee this issue is discussed on the Forums.

      You can just try to exchange (swap) bank1 and bank2 O2 upstream sensors, they are with grey connectors both. If you get the same code, you O2 sensor is not faulty. But if you get a different code, say P0171, it means, that O2 sensor is to be replaced.

  • @samsen3965
    @samsen3965 4 года назад

    I know bad sensor can really make the owner crazy but what is the general thought about third party after market cheap O2 sensors? The price difference is more than 10 times (OUchhhh).

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  4 года назад +1

      Hi Sam - yes Jaguar (DENSO) sensors can be expensive but they perform a critical job and we wouldn't trust this to an aftermarket sensor. You could try the cheaper version/s. We can't say what the result would be though. The "rule of thumb" is - always use genuine parts for safety and performance critical use.
      Hope this has helped.

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  2 года назад

      Do you get P1647 after clearing the fault codes? and - it's possible that the new sensor is faulty. Did you use aftermarket sensors or the DENSO OEM ones?

  • @MahmoodSuhail
    @MahmoodSuhail 3 года назад

    Mine is V6 and I couldn't find the Denso part where I live, only Bosch is available and it's cheap something like $35. Will it be good as the OEM?

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  3 года назад +2

      Hi - If the Bosch alternative is only $35 then it's worth trying. Don't forget to clear the 'trouble code' after fitting it. Just double check that you are buying the correct sensor as the connectors are different between the upstream and the downstream sensors.

    I’ve cleared the codes but it wasn’t a high spec sensor. Could that be the problem?

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  2 года назад +1

      It's possible, but it could be a fault in the wiring/circuitry. It really is a 'process of elimination' - i.e. test one component of the system and then the next and so on until the culprit is identified. I would suggest eliminating the sensor first by trying a known working one by swapping it over with the opposite side sensor. There is no single answer to this I'm afraid and you will need some patience and a drop of perseverance. Sorry I can't be of more help just now. Let us know how you get on.

    Hi I’ve a 2008 sv8 it was my dads but he died 4 years ago and I’ve had it garaged until decided to use it a couple of weeks ago, I’ve got these errors, saying it’s running lean bank 1 and 2, mass air flow - circuit Range / performance error, and cat below threshold P0420, p0171,p0174,p0101
    Thing is it drives spot on, acceleration is mental, not lumpy, no backfiring… but I keep getting engine management light and these errors… do you have any ideas would could cause all these errors, could a blocked cat cause all these, or faulty sensor ?
    I was going to sell it as I need the cash, but I can’t part with it, tbh it’s all I have from my dad so I really want to get it running right, just can’t afford garage fees right now, I don’t mind getting my hands mucky, not new to working on cars but I am with jags, especially a 420bhp supercharged monster, no idea why my dad had it, he drove 60 on the motorway and 30 in a 40 zone

    • @jaaagtv
      @jaaagtv  2 года назад +1

      Hi - As the car has been standing for a few years the faults which are displaying are not altogether unexpected. S Types have an extremely sensitive electronic network system and rely on having a top condition battery at the heart of it. The battery may start the car okay but may not be in perfect electrical condition. A low condition battery can (and sooner or later will) cause a number of faults to be displayed especially where a fault includes the wording ""circuit range". The running lean and CAT error you are seeing I would suggest is the result of the car being idle for so long. I would suggest that you check the age of your battery and if it needs replacing then use a 90/95 amp/hr VARTA (Jaguar use these and they are excellent). I would clear all the DTC faults and give the car a GOOD LONG run and see if the faults remain clear. If you love this car for sentimental reasons and for the fact that it goes like 'a scalded cat' then you really must keep it. The 4.2 R Supercharged model is appreciating in value and a 2008 model is the last of the production run by Jaguar Cars. I hope this has helped. Let me know how you get on. Good luck! - Cheers Brian

      Hi thanks for replying, I’ll look into the battery as think I’ll treat it to a new one anyhow, mines an xf 4.2 supercharged sv8, definitely intend on keeping him, kids named him George 😂
      Had a nightmare with the errors, and don’t want to talk too soon but think it’s better now, I took off the pre sensor on the cat sprayed a litre of thinners in mixed with carb cleaner, and filled if full of engine degreaser foam, and put the sensor back in, left it for an hour, took off the air plenum “bit before the charger” not sure what it’s exactly called but started it up with hammer on the accelerator at 3k , sprayed a bottle of liquid molly cat cleaner in the intake… dash was like a Christmas tree lights and never seen so much smoke come out any exhaust, kept it running until smoke cleared, put it all back together, reset the errors… and been driving for a nearly 2 days now with not a single error on the reader, accelerates on point now as well, I checked the live data and the cat is now almost identical to the bank 2 and airflow is better as well, cleaning the cat out definitely made a difference, just don’t get why I was getting lean errors bank 1, then 1 and 2 with the cat.. not a mechanic so if someone can enlighten me I’d appreciate it, studying this icarsoft though so I can learn how to read the live data, those tools are a life saver
