It’s the gentleman’s M5
100%
It s closer to e55 than m5, never came with a manual, supercharger noise, handles similarly, very poor comparison
I'm so pleased that you "get" fast Jaaags (as well as Jags in general). So many people do not. They are the absolute iron fist in an extremely comfortable and stylish velvet glove. Whereas the Germans have the iron fist too, I always feel they want you to know it and have it on show. Whereas the Jag will cosset you whilst still maintaining that wonderful power when you need it.
Being an owner of an 05 XJ Sovereign, I feel your comment of the stype being the ultimate cruiser somewhat wrong. That is what the XJ was built for.
Having heard from people that have driven both. Me having owned an S-Type and ridden in an X350 the S-Type is actually a bit softer and less sporty than the XJ so I agree with the statement that the S-Type is a wonderful cruiser
Yes
I’m sure you wouldn’t be disappointed with either 😊
I have 4.0 v8 S Type, and xj81
I like more my v8 in the city.
Fast,and easyer.
On the highway...is the v12 King :)
The S Type Jaguar is an overpriced Ford Mondeo. Ford Mondeo 4 x4 floorpan, lMondeo engine and drivetrain and the keys are Ford barrel type stuck in an overpriced fob with the Jaguar symbol.
Ford committed a huge sum of money to Jaguar cars and this is the result?
Not Jaguar's proudest moment.
Go for the facelift 2004 model STR. It is a far better choice as it got various suspension, handling, gearbox and trim upgrades. I treat mine to brake and performance upgrades so she was eventually running 17psi of boost and putting out 570bhp. She was blindingly quick in the mid range - it felt something akin to what I’d imagine of Starship Enterprises going into warp drive. When overtaking you had to pull out first before flooring the throttle to avoid running into the back of the car in front. Great cars and a future classic for sure.
I have an 04 whay performance upgrades did you do?
I know of a Type R with 330k miles. It's had one change of supercharger and normal maintenance. Derestricted and standard. The guy paid £2800 at auction with 200k miles.
Buy it, would make excellent road trip content. Keep up the good work Joel. Channel going from strength to strength.
Appreciate the support, thanks!
And what does Katy think ??
If she likes it,you should definitely upgrade, especially as it's in B.R.G
A traditional colour for a Jaaaaaaaag 👍
Strange to see the chrome bumpers at the front and not body coloured ones.
I imagined the S-type R to feel much quicker than NA 4.2. Still a classic, the last of the Retro Looking modern sedans! Much much prettier than The boxy XJ which look like 70s American cars. STR really stands out!
You are right about the cheap switches (and other electrics) they are straight from the Ford parts bin.
Happy birthday Joel🎉🎉 you’re an old spunker now. Glad to see another video. We all thought you had abandoned us.
These facelifted ones are fantastic. Especially the interior, much more Jaguary. I would seriously consider this or that beautiful E39 you posted in your IG story
Recently had the 3.0L petrol S Type. They're lovely cars, if you get the interior colour that you like.
Next time you visit Heel & Toe cars drive the opposite way out of Finichingfield on the B1053 towards the Gestingthorpe roads that go towards Sudbury, some fabulous driving roads there (and a cup of tea on offer from this stranger if desired in Sudbury :p)
Cheers, will check it out next time
Still a fraction of an E39 M5 prices (£25k upwards) although the BMW is much prettier - I still can't stand the S Type styling. But they are a good car and that 4.2 V8 is a superb thing and so tough. 500 bhp is doable, with which you can start pissing all over a lot of very expensive cars and not laughing, much. These have the Mercedes autobox iirc.
I had a Jag S Type R 51 reg back when I was a similar age to you. Was a wicked car, grey with black and red interior. I cut the middle boxes out and the noise was amazing. However you couldn’t hear the super charger so much when I did that so not sure I would do it again. You will find with the R; when you hit 70mph IMO it starts to pull harder. I went all round the south of England in mine and really enjoyed it. Still miss it so I would definitely say if you can afford it, buy one. Watch the suspension components and arms as they take a battering due to the weight!
Sounds like its under Performing. Or you didn’t press the pedal hard enough into the carpet
What a car!
Joel I think if you’re looking for a cool sounding comfy v8 cruiser have a look at Volvo s80 v8’s and with an exhaust similar kind of thing with the 7 series where no one can believe the noise is coming from what it is. They are also very rare in the uk
Would definitely like to have a go in one, love volvos
Trying hard not to laugh at the wave from the fellow S Type driver! Quality yet again.
Hi Joel. Great video. A comment if I may. I own a 2005 STR, also a Japanese import, has 46k on the clock (38k when I got it). It is an entirely standard car (unless something was done at the factory which I would doubt), highly maintained, in pristine condition. I have also owned 2 3.0 V6 SE's and a 4.0 and 4.2 Sport. Taking the fastest, the 4.2 sport, the performance between this and my STR is on a different planet in my view. It frightens the hell out of me when I floor it, the power delivery is 'viciscious' and its would be very easy to swap ends ends or end up off the road. Its interesting as I don't quite understand your comparison/evaluation of the performance as my evaluation/comparison is entirely different. Possibly the car in the review requires some maintenance maybe.
Truly rapid. If not limited, they can do 186MPH
Where? In UK? They would castrate you for that.
@@Inflator82 Race track, Knobby!
@@BMW7series251 What UK racetrack will allow you to reach 180 mph in an old S- type exactly?
@@Inflator82 Are you familiar with the concept of the maximum speed of a vehicle?
@@MRFUCKOFF202 which gets reached how often and by how many vehicles in UK?
Was looking to bid on a silver Mathewsons Auction one ..55 plate only 22k miles with 14 service stamps. Alas it went for £7500 so around £8200 with fees for what was basically a new car.
I was gonna buy a jag s-type R few years back but they don't come with limited slip diff as standard
If you are running a serious power output you can and should fit a Quaife LSD to get the power to the road in slippery conditions.
@@McGrowlers1 true that.. but buying a Quaife LSD and getting it fitted works out around 2k, they should of been fitted as standard on the jag
@@McGrowlers1 Can you still buy a new Quaife LSD for the STR? In my searches I've only found one site that lists it as in stock.
How does the stock traction control system work with it? I have a pre-facelift 2003 and LSD options in the United States seem slim to none.
That Roots type s/c sounds the nuts! Shame JAAGGG went completely out of their war to make the up to date s/c’s whine non existent… who doesn’t love a v8 rumble with a jet sound in the distant?!
First! Happy birthday again mate, loving this video sitting by the fire! ❤️🔥
What a car, I’ve had the stype 2.7 v6, 3l petrol, x250 xf 3.0 v6, x308 xj, and a coupe of x351s you can’t beat a jag
Castle Hedingham? Finchingfield was 2 miles away lol. Sorry to be a pedant! Was actually there with my aged folks on a trip down memory lane for them - you are right though, it is a lovely area. As is the Type R!!
Do it Joel, fantastic motor!
Really mint! The color is mint too.
I've spoken to Christian recently, nice bloke and some very lovely cars in stock at Heel and Toe!
Christian cars are always superbly turned out think you need to do some more videos on his cars! Really enjoyed it 👍
Totally agree, if I had unlimited money, I'd probably buy everything he got into stock!
Buy it, S-type R are great cars, the 4.2 v8 is better than the 4.0 one.
Absolutely love that R. They were sooooo cheap a few years ago. Very much a hindsight thing!
Amazing Jaguar !!
Looks glorious but definitely closer to a 5 series than a 7 series. This was the UK’s answer to the e39 m5. Whole lotta less money than an m5 these days
Feels like your trying for a Collab with autoAlex and drivetribe
All in jaaaaaaaags
Hm, I don't know. The X308 XJR is gorgeous, but I feel like this doesn't have the look of a classic car. To each to their own.
In the real world the 4.0 is great in the UK.
VED isn't friendly on the type R?rather have a couple cars in lower bands.
Love the seats, i live in the states and never seen a jag like that one
I have an 04 S Type R im working on rebuilding
Aren’t these 400bhp (bit less in Landrover’s )
The Xf sv8 and newer XJR and the later xkrs made 400-420 ish at the crank with the 4.2L supercharged
These are 390 at the crank as are the XJs and XKs from this period I believe.
All NA 4.2s made 300hp crank i believe
And then I believe in 2010 or so you got the 5.0 which did 380 na and 500 odd supercharged with limited editions getting 550/575 or so.
Problem with the S Type R is you can get an X350 XJR for the same price.
As an import, how can you be sure the mileage is genuine?
Please can you do a comparision with the Jaguar XJ V8 compared to your S Type
Great car Joel. Do the upgrade if you can. Gotta' love that whine!! Cheers, John.
I have a 2003 S type 4.2have had it 16 yrs..only has 98K It is a great car...the biggest problem is mechanics. Today mechanics just want to fix your car and get it out the door and get paid They cannot diagnose much on jags. I have gone to so many mechanics that dont know how to fix it or understand the codes..and I have had to have other mechanics fix their mistakes. I have had a few mechanics actually refuse to work on them .....
I have an 04 and I have done all the work myself was a pain I got it in pretty bad shape still dont trust anyone to work on it
This is best jaguar s type R? So rare don't see much in the roads? Still looking better than a normal jaguar s type? This jaguar s type R is look like brand new one?
Happy Birthday fella ,First time I’ve ever heard a supercharger on one of these 😉👍
Cheers Alan, the supercharger sound is absolutely intoxicating
If you have the money buy it and potentially straight pipe it like the 7 series
I could be wrong but is it the same as the 4.2 supercharged engine in the xf sv8?
It is for 2009, then the xf got the 5.0 supercharged in 2010
@@briandoan3837 that's when it became a beast! Especially with a new sc pully and lower engine crank! The thing can get over 600hp with mapping added
Always thought the S-type looked wrong from every angle the hideous retro styling of jaguars of the past never really worked. The XJ was far far superior car and actually looked right.
agreed they look silly
Old jags 🤌🤌🤌 they dont make cars like this anymore. 😢
Love the STR. Great car.
Presenter slipped into Range Rover mode.
Great content mate
Thanks Elliot
This one for the wedding car?
yes, it is
Love the colour
Great vid Joel.
Looks and sounds badass!
Are those Mondeo window buttons?
I believe they were owned by Ford when these were manufactured, so it's likely
Yes
Love mine put a big exhaust on it and watch the looks 🤣🤣
I only wonder how much y food Joel really drinks. Whether they are particularly useful I doubt he uses them as much as the sponsorship spiel paints. I'm off to take some mortgage advice from my local tractor driver.
Nah.. buy my XF V8SC with the same 4.2 with a bit more power. Looking like and XFR but cheaper...
I still honestly think that the BMW 7 Series offers far better value for money and overall is a nicer car pound for pound.
The Jaguars are just too old man and not as appealing for similarly priced cars aimed at basically the same market.
the interior is sponsored by REESE'S lol
Should I buy a 2003 S Type R with 106k miles for 6k ???
I got an 04 for 3200 had 120k miles still under 125k currently ive had it 5 years though.
Luvley looking car but no matter how it looks its still a Jaguar which will no doubt has the quality associated with the brand
buy it!!!!!
My S TYPE R’s going up for sale soon…😅😅
Go for an X350 R of the same vintage…
NICE LOOKING CAR BUD 👍👍SOUNDS GOOD 👍🛸
Buy it!
Gorgeus car!
Beautiful car 👍🥰
Just when you start to enjoy this nice video and wonderful, that dude must crash it in the middle with some commercial for a sugar food!!! Are you for real dude???? Downvoted and REPORTED!!!!
Well, he's gotta pay his bills too. It's not like he's gonna get a proper job or something.
@@Inflator82 Bahahaha!!! Indeed mate. Very good one. Hope he stays a good RUclips-Employee.
Reported? for what lol? 🙄
It's got the wrong front bumper on
Jaaaaaag!!!
Buy XJR
XJR for me
Supercharger your own car. It'll be content and cheaper
And no fuel in it
I fell asleep during that super-long ad break (and the TWO other ads that immediately followed it) 😴
For that I won’t be subscribing 👋
Once bitten twice shy!!! Leave it where it is 😆 buy German
Love that you found an actual steaming turd for that segment
it's all in the details... haha
I have an 08 XF 3.0ltr petrol V6 premium luxury and that produces 238bhp, the same as your V8 and I also have a 3.0ltr supercharged XJ portfolio which produces 340bhp and 340ish lbft of torque which is the same as that S type R. Jaguar have come a long way. By the way when you put your foot down in the XJ the acceleration is not gentle.
I used to have the same XF... was an absolutely fantastic car
Just some S Type figures - the 4.0 engine had a claimed 281bhp and the 4.2 300bhp. The 4.2 R had 400bhp. The 3.0 had 240bhp and the 2.5 around 195bhp
Joel if you are even thinking of buying it. Stop thinking and do it, jap imports are rare and always going to be a better choice than one from England as we’ve seen with Drivetribe and that is a beautiful spec of a rare car in great condition.
I have a s type r and I love it
What a car
