Would love a Hinterland episode. Congratulations on the baby bump! Yes, my chest was the first to grow and out grew the maternity tops I sewed quickly. I too was unsure about breastfeeding, had a few struggles to begin with, but ended up being a long time breast feeder for both of my children. Don’t worry about the type of closures on your tops (unless it is a dress or jumpsuit) it is just far easier and more discreet to lift your top from the bottom and tuck the baby in. Take the time to figure each other out when the time comes. Enjoy your pregnancy!
Yes I agree with the amazing early bust growth too and I leaked lots too from early on! I became a very long term breast feeder with my four and in those days it was possible to donate breast milk to the hospital prem unit too! Alas that is no longer allowed. Fibre Hut is in Birmingham and they offer spinning lessons and Gai is a really nice person
@@orchidsheartAgreed! The double top system worked best for us too - a nursing strap top underneath and a regular top on top. That way your belly doesn't get cold 😄 Id like to experiment with a few dresses this time around too, but will probably default to the two-tops as it's so quick and convenient
@@orchidsheartWe changed ours on a mat on the floor, or bed before baby starts rolling, works fine! Then we tuck the mat and basket of cloth wipes etc away. Unless you have a dog or other children that you want them out of the way of
'grabs massive dusty old kombucha jar out of retirement' I've been thinking about a nice vessel for some inspiring yarns, but haven't really found anything, and here you are with a jar! Thanks for the idea!
Love all your knits and especially the baby knits!!! Beautiful! I think it’s good the onesie is big as you can layer underneath it a lot and nappies can take up a lot of room too. Yes please on the hinterland dress video! Also, so exciting that you have a spinning wheel!! Keep up the practice and you will get there!!
Hello and its nice to see you. Its great that you are trying to learn spinning. A few things that seemed to work for me were, learning how to treadle first so that the wheel was consistently turning. Learning how to stop and start the wheel with your feet. It also helped to use quite sticky rolags or top as opposed to slippery fibre like merino at first while learning. You can spin slowly. The wheel doesn't have to turn quickly to get enough twist. Predrafting the fibre helped me also. I hope these things help. One day you will sit to spin and your body will just remember how to do it. Sleeping on it helps! Spin everyday for 15 minutes. Good luck!
I am getting there- i got a bit of help in person and they said a lot of this- it is slowly sticking. i have been trying to do 15min every day but some stuff has come up which means i have a lot less time for the next couple of weeks so is more like every other day atm. but not beating myself up about it and just making sure i dont ignore it completely!
Loved everything , but especially the baby knits and the hinterland dress … A hinterland dress show and tell would be great for me as I hope to make one this summer … All the very best for your time off … enjoy 😊 ps your hair looks great 👍🏽 cut xx Jude
This was such a lovely episode, I loved all of your baby knits and I'm sending you lots of love through this journey. Thank you for giving me a soothing Sunday morning
Yes to the Hinterland video! It is almost the only dress I sew, I love it so much and have hacked that pattern so much. I always recommend people interested in sewing start with Sew Liberated. Also your question about snaps vs buttons, at least for me I never minded undoing and redoing buttons. Enjoyed the video! Thank you!
Your channel just showed up in my feed tonight. I'll now have to binge watch a few episodes ❤ With regard to buttons vs poppers on your shirt, you'll find that you won't undo the front, it's actually easier, quicker and more modest to lift the top up to breastfeed. I'm a Nanny now so I had my kids quite a while ago, but I remember that I always gravitated to tops and jeans/ skirts as it was just so much easier as I said above. Congratulations on your baby!
ah good to know! i have been slightly sad looking at all my summer clothes thinking I am doomed haha. though I guess that would mean dresses are out the window. ah well!! and thanks
Love the video, as always : ) A Hinterland Dress video would be amazing! I don't sew but am planning to start, and one day I would loooove to make a Hinterland!
You pulled up the blue linen and I was like, wow! That color is lovely and is going to look so great on you! I’ve never had too much issue with buttons and breastfeeding- I can unbutton with one hand, but buttoning back up while in public and trying to be more discreet is a little harder than popping a button. So excited for you :) I would love to hear about your Hinterlands. I’ve made a few other Sew Liberated patterns and that’s next on my list. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely knits!! I used Camarose Oekologist DK to knit balaclavas for my son when he was a baby, he had sensitive skin and that was just perfect :) it's a great yarn I think that when my baby was around 3-4 months I was not worried anymore with regular neck opening for jumpers. For me, absolutely no problem with buttons and breastfeeding :)
ah thanks for the info, i really want to focus on making practical useful things and not end up with things I can't use or are annoying. the colours of that ca ma rose yarn are so lovely!! it is tempting to make more knits with it
@@orchidsheart go for it :) I made balaclavas from Knitting for olive I recommend the pattern! Baby bear balaclava or something. I made it in all sizes haha
Wohoo I am also due at the end of Jully! Yes to Hinterland video...I am looking at the pattern and is similar to the pattern I am planning to make Orchards dress by Vivian Shao Chen, but now I am thinking of adding Hinterland to the list, or maybe they are too similar.
I'm not sure to be honest, I've not made the orchard dress. Sometimes similar patterns arent actually that similar once you really look at them! & congrats to you too :)
Love the tiny jumpers! For my kids, I loved buttons on the neckline even when they were toddlers! And yes, Hinterland episode would be nice, I love making and wearing them too. I am gonna try a bust adjustment, as the bust darts are not ideal on the original. I never bothered but am gonna invest some time in an upgraded version.
Hi 😁A granny here. Yes I would say about a year for the neck opening is fine. Personally I love side buttons on little jumpers so cute! Not really an age limit for me. Love all your knits.Have you looked at the patterns on ravelry by Pippy eve and Florence Merlin. 👍🌷
Hi! New subscriber here, and I'm catching up on your videos:) I'd do the button placket on jumpers as long as possible. Most kids absolutely hate having something constricting pulled over their heads!
Wow, linen in the UK sounds way more reasonably priced than here in Australia! Even the cheap stuff is 30$/m 😢 I love that colour you are going to make the jumpsuit out of, can’t wait to see it.
ooof - mind you i dont know what 30 is in Austrialian dollars haha. £30 would be more than a skein of hand dyed of yarn.... maybe a meal out?? ha trying to think of things to relate it to....
@@orchidsheart relatively equivalent I think, a hand dyed skein is about 30$AU. My recent fabric hack is buying linen duvet covers from HandM on sale. I bought one for 39$ and made a hinterland dress, a skirt and a pair of pants. 🥰
Hi. I just felt a pain in my chest when you talked about the price on the garment you didn't want to buy because you thought it was too expencive. We all have our limits of course, but when you take away the cost of the material, how much money do you think the people making the garment get our of that 150 pounds? 150 pounds is very little money. The linen is no longer cheap, electricity is not cheap, renting the place where they can have their workspace is not cheap. Would you sell a sweater for 150 pounds? For the work and the materials included? I wish we, who are makers at least, can start to value other makes worth and not complain about the price when it's more than fair. I can understand that 150 pounds can be too much for someones budget, but it's not the garment that is expensive, it's you who will not prioritise it. And that is something else. And it's always good to remember that what's a hobby for you is someones bread and butter for them and their family. Cheap for us is expensive for someone else, meaning someone has to pay a huge amount of health, money, time, lack of taking care of their children and more so that we can buy cheap. There are no free dinners. Don't mean to sound to harsh, but I do mean to see it from a different view than yours and others who always talk about how cheap they want stuff and how lucky they are to get things cheap. It´s not luck. It's someone else, far poorer than us who are paying the price. Kind regards, Kirvil.
Believe me I totally agree with you and understand - I've been making my own clothes for years so am totally aware of the effort and time. And as mentioned, I have bought clothes from them in the past. But I decided at this time I could afford the time more than the money so made the choice to make it. Hope that makes sense
