And this is how they should look from the manufacturer! Nice job!
Ever since I found you guys as Channel it has helped us in the shop more ways than you can imagine and with that we surely appreciate you doing these videos and the good Lord will bless you for showing the customers what they really have on the roof thanks and we appreciate it
Thank you. We're glad to of been helpful. Customers trade with folks because they trust the jobs will be done right and for the long term. So if we are helping a shop that will ultimately be help customers....folks...people...in our community....we are glad to do so. Thanks for watching. So what have you seen that has been a real help? What have you changed or done differently?
@@RVROOFINSTALL well for 1 you was speaking of plastic on the tin siding campers you mentioned that it did not have any plastic to cut down on condensation we didn't used to do it but now we wrap the complete unit in plastic including the roof it makes sense there is no way it can leak if you do that and my thanks to you
Man Joe that curb for the satellite is aces Real nice job !!!!!!!!!
Thank you. I wanted it to look like it belonged. Like my mentor Hannibal Smith on the A team says....Gotta have jazz!
Thanks for watching!
Another great job, guys! You do awesome work.
Unreal,Maybe you should teach the manufacturers how to properly install a roof. They don’t care.My rv was $90k didn’t pay that but I think keystone doesn’t care at all about quality workmanship.Awesome work guys👍
The moto of the RV industry is .."Get em built, Get em Out...Get em sold!" They chants this in the factory like cults on a compound...lol. Thanks for watching and thank you for subscribing
Well, it was a choice between buying the DRV or the Riverstone. DRV just lost a sale. Since the beginning (2016), Riverstone has used TPO (thinner than yours, but still TPO). I live (full-time RV) in Tehachapi, Ca. (snow zone) so I need the 3" thick insulated walls, slide boxes etc., not a whole lot of choices out there.
Will Rogers said: "If a man wants to become wealthy, find a need and fill it". RVs need better roofs and your company is "filling the need". Cheers!
DRV claimed they used 1/2 inch decking , glued and screwed. Obviously not the case. Seems like fraud to me or at the very least bait and switch.
Thanks for watching.
$140K+ RV, supposedly one of the best in the industry. How sad. Wonder how Luxe is? After this video, I'm no longer a DVR guy......
That vent up in the front is solar prep, it has wires that run from there to the battery compartment.
You are correct. They are access to solar or for running something else. However, they do appear to be a vent,
We have since found that out on another. MS we did however they used a plumbing cap instead.when we removed the plumbing cap there was no plumbing, so we call MS to see if they forgot something...lol
Thanks for sharing, thanks for watching.
you guys save a lot of people headaches very much appreciated what kind of plywood do you replace the roof with thanks
Sometimes we use plywood...BC grade or we may use radiant barrier OSB. I prefer the plywood. But the radiant barrier really no pushes back UV Ray's and keeps the coach cooler.
Thanks for watching.
I have a 2004 DRV 36’3 slide and the back ends of the plywood we’re it come to the radius corners. The membrane is lifting on both sides and it feels like the radius corners are lose going forward from the back. I do have pictures. I just don’t want to jump on this unless I know what I’m doing. The roof looks Similar except mine has more of a dip over the radius to roof. The roof is solid no side spots.
Nice work.
I had a brand new Arctic Fox that needed restructuring (they fogrgot brace for second AC) and a new roof.
The factory took it back and did it in ONE DAY. Unbeliveably crappy job with so many shortcuts.
The RV industry has a great Moto....Get em built, Get em no out...Get em sold!
Thank you. We don't want to do the job twice.
You're going to have to make sure the new roof lens is sealed. You will need to prime it and you will need to make the holes in the new lens larger to allow for expansion and contraction. Lens needs to be primed. Holes in lens need to be primed. The thin edge needs to be primed. Anywhere caulk will contact needs to be primed. Then you can use a good quality caulk to seal it like Through the Roof by Sashco wi work. We use a commercial product but Sashco will work. Be generous with the caulk on the flange so when you screw it down it will burp out the edges and you need to make sure you do not over tighten. Just snug it down. Make sure there is caulk coming out of the screw holes so when the screw is installed there will be a small ring of caulk around the screw head like a grommet. We use all weather screws the kind you would use for metal roofing. Those screws have a small rubber washer which helps to seal and bond to the caulk.
Good luck. Merry Christmas!
A+ work guys.
First thing to do when buying any RV is jump on the roof. Any saggy ness, walk away
Nice work
Your video shows how the wood is fastened but you didn’t address the sheet metal on the sides where it had raised. How should it have been fastened.
The metal has raised on mine and I was curious how it should be done.
The sheet metal you are referring to is the shoulder. They pop loose because they were merely stapled and the work loose because these coaches rack and flex quite a bit. We use adhesive to glue them to the roof deck. We do staple and we also screw them....depends on the roof. Keep an eye on yours so it doesn't rio the roofing.
@@RVROOFINSTALL that’s exactly what I’m dealing with. Both side on the back the shoulder is loose about half way up the coach and it’s lifting the membrane.
I also tore out the back right wall because it has a leak in front of the oblong window. I took all the self leveling off the back and read laced it but I didn’t remove the metal strip and I think they herself leveler was the pd that I brought at camping world because it didn’t lay like it should. So I guess I will go back and remove it because I still have that leak. I have been all over that roof looking for leaks. I replaced slide covers and I recaulked the entire unit. I replace both A/c with new ones.
Should I take the termination strip and membrane loose and redo the shoulder and reglue. Also should I take the back termination strip loose and do the same as you. This thing is driving me nuts.
@@brendalee878 I'd you ha e a tear in the roofing file a claim with your insurance company. That's the easiest way to help pay for a new roof I wouldn't be surprised if it the leak was coming off from the ladder.
So I'm curious, with a unit this new, why any issues wouldn't have been dealt with under warranty by the manufacturer. It's not like DRV is one of the low-priced operations.
The roof wasn't leaking. It would've leaked.... but it wasn't at the time. They only extend a 1 year warranty.
RV ROOF INSTALL I would just be surprised if gaps in the seals and that kind of thing would not have been fixed by the manufacturer. Also, maybe I missed it, but what did you do at the scissored metal edges with masking tape over them? The masking tape and lack of adhesives used are what surprised and concerned me the most.
@@ReflectedMiles we put protective strips over those edhges....basically it's the remnants of the roofing. MS did step up and pay for the caulking, but not the roof.
RV ROOF INSTALL Okay, thanks. That makes sense.
So why was the Dsuite brought in initially, if like you said the roof is not leaking?
The customer had 2 fifth wheels previous this one and watched them fall apart due to bad roofs so they did not want to even wait for this expensive one to get ruined and decided to get the roof done properly right off the rip. As you can see we uncovered problems that would have caused leaks real soon. On the second MS video you will see all the caulk was mislaid and the slideouts had drainage issues.....You'd think for $120,000. you get much better quality.
Thanks for watching...share.
and that is how it SHOULD be done from the factory. smh. that was pathetic when it came in your shop. Glad to see it was in good hands.
I want to cut a bigger hole where my shower skylight is to make more room inside the shower, then put a taller skylight on it. The travel trailer is in a permanent location (never to be towed again). Is there much of a problem making the hole larger if I structure the hole properly?
Why don't you just get a taller roof skylight and interior lens and save yourself the trouble. You can order them in different heights.
@@RVROOFINSTALL Because the hole in my roof is so small... about 12" by 18". My shower head is so low I have almost get on my knees to get my head wet. If I can open the hole and make more height, I can get wet without doing squats in the shower.
@@tomjones4093 you can enlarge the hole. Some of the videos show the roof open so you can get an idea of how to strengthen the framing. You'll see when you start taking things apart.
@@RVROOFINSTALL Thanks... I'll let you know how it turned out.
What kind of primer do you use for your Caulking.
We use GAF TPO primer because we use GAF products. You could use a universal EPDM / TPO primer. Thanks for watching!
i thought i wanted a rv until i found this channel they are all junk some just cost more than others
I don't have one either. Thanks for watching!
It's truly depressing to see how bad (and I'd bet this isn't the worst) some manufacturers QC and design can be. BTW, (to paraphrase Jaws) I think you're going to need a bigger shop door!
I've moved r times in 6 years. We are now in a 10k sq ft building and I'm busting the seams again. Thanks for watching.
Soon I'll be living in A trailer It's a 2014 moble suites trailer That is 42ft Long trailer.
Why? Better ways to throw your money away.
We’re are you located?
There should be a card on the video....we are in the fine city of Fort Oglethorpe Georgia just a few minutes south of Chattanooga TN.
I'm hoping to bring my 1990 Foretravel Grand Villa to get a new roof within the next 4 months, how long will it take and are there fairly cheap and big dog friendly ? Thanks and God Bless.
it takes about a week to put the roof on.
The best way for us to price the roof would be to call. There are some questions that we may have that may effect pricing so as to stay in your budget.
Thank you for watching. Share.
Embarrassment for the OEM. Unreal.
Please give us a call so we can answer your questions properly. 423-475-7663
An absolute joke people spend a fortune on these riggs & the roofs fail in 5 years or less?... If I was a rich man I wouldnt buy any rv of any manufacture they are poorly constructed & much the time the guys at the factory have no clue of what they are doing when they build these failing piles of junk on wheels..
I don't own one. Thanks for watching.
