    I have a 2014 keystone sprinter 299 ret 36ft travel trailer and the back wall has done the same thing. I mentioned on another one of your other videos that the RV sales person told us that it was made like this for movement. We purchased it new at 30,000$. I reside in New Jersey.... a bit far from you 😕😔 I know you guys want the customers to come in for inspections. Of course I just purchased dicor 5 tubes. Smh. We are really tricked as these companies really don't care for there customers. So sad. They should have inspections before each process moves forward. Thank you so much for your videos. I know it would be hard for you guys to give estimates without looking at the coach. This year sprinter are beautiful coaches. We maintenance ours every season but like you'all said.... The RV industries really take you for a nasty ride.

    This is all GAF brand TPO that we use for the roofing. The material is 60 mil thick structured. Structured means it has a mesh in the membrane for strength against impacts like branches and hail. The reason we use GAF solely is because they are the only commercial manufacture company that will extend a warranty to an RV. All our products we install are commercial products, not RV poor quality products. We do not use or install EPDM rubber.
    Jon, the glue we use is just under $500 for the small cylinder, very expensive. You can use 3M90, available at Home Depot or Lowe's.

      Actually, I think the Keystone Aluminum sidewall construction is one of the best.
      Their welding discipline is admirable (Google it for you-tube).
      It is mostly the fault of the owners not maintaining their rigs.
      They don't appear to appreciate the fact that they need to maintain the roof (recaulk as required) or any thing else. We have been Rv ing for 60 years and never allowed such damage to occurr.

    My EPDM or the other ruber roof looks ok. But I have a spot wear it looks like a branch poked a hole and than was calked(lap sealant). I just noticed that the ply wood it badly rotted about 1 foot across. it feels like some of the wood framing might also be rotted. Should I just peel the roof back(can it be reused ?) and replace the wood or just do the EPDM rubber roofing coating system ? I live in it and have lots of rain coming withing a few weeks. I can get a carport tent with clear tarps to work on it. I need to do some lap sealant and the EPDM rubber roofing coating. What one should I do first ?

    • @RVROOFINSTALL
      @RVROOFINSTALL  2 года назад

      No, aluminum is not better. The alloy in the material is pathetically low and makes it extremely difficult to weld with burning apart. We tried to braze a section together and it melted before the brazing rod. The rod molts at 760 degrees. If the aluminum was better quality it would make a major difference.

      You need to use a spray contact adhesive like 3M90, or staybond.. that will bond Filon to wood. Some adhesives will disintegrate foam. We use adhesives in the a cylinder not a spray can. If using a new piece of Filon I would suggest you scuff the back side that will be adhered with a sander. Get the gloss on off.

    Which is better TPO or EPDM?
    I have a 1996 Fleetwood Bounder 40 foot the roof has to be replaced And re-sealed, and I don't know which one I should use TPO or EPDM. Thank you

    • @RVROOFINSTALL
      @RVROOFINSTALL  5 лет назад +1

      EPDM it useless. I call them starter roofs because of all the 35byears in commercial construction and roof systems I have never seen one last without major detail issues. Detail meaning flashing and lap seals. It also oxidizes terribly causing streaking down the coach...in this case....needs constant babysitting. Shrinks as well and relies soley on adhesive for the details mentioned.
      TPO is a better roof and all the detail is heat weld. So unless the installer is an idiot and not follow manufacturers installation, it will last a lot longer with non-issue. At worse a commercial TPO would or could be coated with a UV reflective coating to stave off an out right replacement for a few more years. If EPDM or any other system was better than what we install... TPO.... we'd install it. RV TPO bus low budget, thin and can not handle being welded. A couple of cracker Jack's on RUclips show you can weld it but when you look at the weld it a mess sloppy and compromised. We install commercial grade TPO like you'd find in a hotel or office building. We designed the curbs and boots to work and function for an RV.

    So just figured out that we have something similar happening on our 2013 Keystone Laredo 250rl. I don’t think it’s currently leaking, and that it was the previous owner and they fixed the leak but did not fix the damage. We’re also currently full time living in it and will be for the foreseeable future. Since it’s getting to be colder outside and we don’t have a huge garage to pull it into to work on it we’re probably just going to wait to do this until spring. My father in law is a very experienced contractor so we’re going to be doing the work ourselves. We will not be completely replacing the entire roof as that should not be necessary, but will need to pull up the rear side to replace the decking. How long do you think it would take the two of us to do something like this ourselves and do you have a price estimate?

    Great video. Loved the way you repaired the wood, the scarf joint is strong. What TPO material did you use on the roof? What is it thickness. You guys prefer TPO to EPDM? Anyway, thanks for the video. Very informative.

    • @RVROOFINSTALL
      @RVROOFINSTALL  5 лет назад +1

      We use GAF brand 60 mil structured TPO. EPDM rubber is problematic. It shrinks, is not structured so it has no tensile strength , has issues with call sticking to it, and when it oxidizes it will streak the coach with black stripes. TPO is much more durable than rubber and can withstand branch drags without snag.

    Does an aluminum frame make a leak like this any less cost to repair versus the wood structure ?

    • @RVROOFINSTALL
      @RVROOFINSTALL  5 лет назад

      If it is all aluminum frame and if we do not have to rebuild, reframe , reinforce, then yes it could save some money. What we have found is the aluminum is a low grade alloy and typically not welded very well. There is also backers aka stock that is in the walls to screw things to, like cabinets and ladders. Those are usually wood that end up rotting and need to be replaced.

    • @RVROOFINSTALL
      @RVROOFINSTALL  5 лет назад

      Good question...well EPDM is rubber. Rubber is literally the cheapest product in the planet and RV grade is cheaper than that! Even RV grade TPO is cheap quality and too thin to weld to. We have 35bywars in commercial roof systems and in all that time we never install one roll of rubber. Rubber will shrink and oxidizes terribly which will streak the coach with carbon residue. We use commercial grade TPO. But no matter what you select if you do not have proper curbs, flashing and counter flashing, the roof will leak. PVC is another option but it is generally more expensive and used for industrial application where chemicals or other fall out around the plant may otherwise have an adverse effect on rubber or TPO.
      Does that help answer your question?
      We use GAF TPO because they are the only commercial manufacturing company that will extend a material warranty on a coach. This is the same product you would find on an office building, restaurant or hospital, with the same installation proxedure
