I like the way you eliminated that top bar and went over the edge with the TPO to prevent pooling. Mine pools and I suspect that’s what cause my deck deterioration. I have my Sunseeker scheduled for March with you! Ed
Sometimes we roll the roofing over the shoulder and secured under the gutter. If the coach has a paint and decals shoulder we heat weld the top edge in the roof. We'll get you fixed up my friend.
I have watched a few of your videos and noticed that you are reluctant to show how you weld the material around vents or AC's!!!
He has a short video showing how that is done on his RUclips channel.
I agree. Its poofy and not puffy. Another great video.
Another great job by Dr. roof !!!
that's why you guys are in demand you do the job right start to finish
Thank you so much for this video, I tried looking everywhere for something like this do to the rotted wood and water damage on my sunseekers roof I had water damage also in the front cab bedding area
Very welcome, maybe you can get a tip just an fyi... the vids are not intended as tutorials or DIY. Thanks for watching.
You keep stressing that Dicor doesn’t work. I see the evidence and believe you however what should I use. I have a brand new fifth wheel and can not afford a new roof so I need to protect the one I have as long as I can. I keep the unit in a enclosed garage when not in use.
Not sure it is the Dicor material thats the issue. More like the owners do not clean and reseal them properly, Or they use the wrong cleaning/sealing materials which cause roof material to degrade, crack or separate.
Another great video! Enjoy your channel.
that front corner is where mine is rotted too. 2012.
That's a common spot on class c coaches. The term bar may be loose and causing compromised.
Thanks for watching.
What did you guy use for glueing the first layer of plywood down to the foam
Hey, I'm trying to repair my roof and watching your videos is the first time I've seen or heard to use a primer before applying your sealant. I've tried looking up what to use but found no info on it or even to do it. What kind should I use sirs?
Are you gluing (2) 1/8” pieces of plywood on? Could you use 1/4”?
You can use as thick as you can get away with. Need to be certain all the pieces of trim will come together properly. On class Cs, you may be able to get away with 5mm, which is just shy of ¼ inch.
There is a video titled Heat Welding on our channel.
Ok, so you don't like dicor, enlighten me, what should I use. Sika flex? What?
What glue do you use to glue down the ply wood on the roof? And what do you think about OSB?
Rapid at Home Depot is a great product. I lean more towards plywood than OSB. I have used OSB on some roofs only because the Width was over 8 ft. If the roof is done properly then there shouldn't be any issues with either panels.
Thanks for watching.
Like your videos. Always something new to learn. My question is, if you don’t like dycor then what would you recommend for the home touchup? Or when I replace a vent or cover? Also, you say you always dump the batwing antenna, what do you put in its place? Thanks
Leak Stopper I'd a water based product for home touch ups. You can buy it at Lowe's in the roofing section, not caulk section. The shaft on the crank up antennas are to short to build a curb for. Any antenna will work. The crank ups usually don't come in well. Winegard and King both make antennas.
you alluded to the filon that was stuck down and the wood was still in good condition. Did you scrape/remove all of that filon material or did you scrape it all off, but replace only the rotten wood?
Yes, we do our best to salvage the Filon. We try to make our repairs as less intrusive as possible. New pieces attract attention, and if someone were to sell the coach, it raises flags to what happened, how that he repair done, was the repair done correctly. We do scrape the Luan off. Sometimes, you have to sand off what doesn't scrape off. This is a patient undertaking.
Thanks forr watching.
@@RVROOFINSTALL Thanks. I'm in process now. Some of that Filon is SERIOUSLY glued down to the Styrofoam.
@@matthewmontgomery4499 should be glued to a piece of ⅛" luan. The luan is glues to the foam. You don't want to tear the foam apart because then you'll have to patch it back in. You may opt to just cut the siding I stead of tearing all the well stuck sections off. If you do decide to cut it, try to figure a good way that you could conceal the cut with a decal or some vinyl wrap. Don't poke a bear.
@@RVROOFINSTALL I misspoke, the filon is seriously glued to the lauan...tomorrow going to try and scrape it up. the front section was so bad I removed the lauan down to the foam...the foam was damaged up over the cab so time was spent with a hot knife rebuilding the entire front roof section. Honestly if I lived closer I'd bring it to you...but here in utah i'm 8 weeks out from any shop, and 10k....
@@matthewmontgomery4499 the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
Could you give me a rough estimate to do a 26 ft. camping trailer, redecked , new roof and sealed?
When I asked about “home” I meant a person like me changing out a vent on my RV at home. Does Lowes have a product you would recommend for RV sealant?
If you are changing out a vent not in our roofs you can use Leak Stopper. Our roofs use M1.
RV ROOF INSTALL thanks for your response. May I ask what it is that you don’t like about dicor? One reason I ask is because stop leak looks like it’s black and while this seems to be petty it would look bad on a nice white rubber roof with all the new white vents etc on my roof. However I want something a professional as yourself would use if you couldn’t get M-1.
@@MoParRus340 leak stopper is clear, goes on white and then turns clear. Dicor is a cheap blend of acrylic latex and butyl, from what I can figure. The acrylic cracks because the butyl expands differently and that's why you have to keep slobbering more on. Great marketing by Dicor on a crappy product.
how much does your repair cost
@@andyalbarez2167 it would be hard to price a repair. You'd be better off giving us a call so we can discuss all the concerns you have
what is your opinion on manus bond or bp300 that's what we used on giant walk in freezers in between the walls as we put them up
manus bond is butyl
Mr. Baron it is a lot easier to go over pricing in a phone conversation. We will have quite a few questions that will wear out my thumbs...lol. Give us a call. 423.475.7663.
Thank for watching and looking forward to hearing from you.
We are open 8 to 5 MF and usually there in weekends.
I have alpha 1021 caulking shelf leveling that came with the alpha roof kit. What should I use for caulking for vents/ turn bars. What do you guys use for caulking for pvc roof?
Trying to get this roof done before the snowflys!
We use commercial materials. You can use M1 by Chemlink.
@@RVROOFINSTALL alright thank you so much for answering all my questions! You guys rock enjoy watching your videos
What is the name of the adhesive you use to hold plywood to roof joists?
You can use any subfloor adhesive. We use great stuff follow and wall. But you can buy subfloor adhesive anywhere and it comes in a caulk tube so you won't have to buy a dispensing gun that you would need for the foam adhesive. Thanks for watching!
Why dont they make a roof that wraps all the way down to the molding a one pice of a 1/16in aluminum roof then put a glue that a hell of a lot better than they are using but run roof seam tape the 6 in you want the water to runoff the roof with no molding
RV manufacturer have a motto.... Get it built, get it out, get it sold. If they can save one extra penny, they will. For example.... The red plastic protectors I put in the ferrells that the wires go through are about a penny.
Thanks for watching.
What do you use to seal a rubber roof if not dicore?
Carlisle's EPDM lap sealant.
What is the primer you use? Just the glue you use to glue down the membrane?
Primer is not glue. Any TPO primer will work.
Even for a pvc roof? can I use pvc primer for that or should I still use tpo?
@@bam18333333 ovc plumbing primer?
You can use a generic membrane primer for EPDM, TPO or PVC.
Ok
Sorry but you would either remove that off my paid roof or be paying me a monthly advertising fee.Thats going to far....
Well you might as well take the logo off your truck/ car and appliances too. Or call them for advertising fees. This isn't a channel for you obviously. There are plenty other channels for you to go to.
