The most amazing artist of my life time. I began listening to Joni when I was 15 I am now 63 and I have never been able to stop! This amazing woman turned 80 years old yesterday! And she recently started to perform again and she still amazing. Joni wrote this song when she was 21 she is the ultimate artist. My favorite poet my favorite singer songwriter my favorite musician and my favorite painter. She absolutely the greatest
Beautiful, of course... but fyi this is Joni revisiting the song many years after her original version - the original being more simply delivered and to my mind equally touching. Love your channel.
Her 'advanced' aged voice is so beautiful and makes the song even more poignant. Check out her jazzy tunes. Joni delivers lyrics to match her amazing voice and music. Such a talent, as you hear. 'A Case of You' and 'Amelia' are special.
I absolutely love this version of this song, the moody, heartfelt lyrics are captivating and reminisce with my own life personally, I can relate . As a 58 year old gay man living here in the UK, my life as a gay man, as with many I'm sure... Has been an emotional journey, starting with childhood,, i will spare you the details my dear. Thank you so much for allowing me to sit quietly and reminisce again. You are young, I believe youth cannot fully understand the true meaning of life's journey if you have not lived it yet? Jodie Mitchell is one hell of an artist, with an incredible talent. Take care handsome man. Greetings from the UK ❤
Her "Blue" album is extraordinary---no hyperbole here. IMHO she is the greatest songwriter ever! She literally paints a story for you. When Blue was released, I think I listened to it for days over and over.
I highly recommend also listening to her original version from when she was very young. Both versions are great! For more Joni Mitchell, you might delve into her masterpiece album Blue (River is from it). The entire album is incredible, but if I had to choose one song from it to recommend, it would be A Case of You.
Awesome performance. I like your heartfelt comments, without commenting. ...it's rare that people 'listen' to each other any more. Music like this still exists.
when she sung it young she still had the rest of the journey to walk then you hear the later version you hear the reminiscing about the journey, that's how I like to think of the two
She said she got a lot of flack from people at the time for the song. Because people thought it was laughable that someone so young and presumably naive would write such a song, having not experienced much of life yet
Lifelong Joni fan here. Favorite albums: Court and Spark, Hejira, Hissing of Summer Lawns, Blue, Wild Things Run Fast, Turbulent Indigo. She so great, I have to speak in terms of favorite ALBUMS not just favorite songs!
Such a good surprise to see a Joni reaction today. I’ll second the recommendation for “A Case Of You” and also add “Free Man In Paris”, “You Turn Me On, I’m A Radio”, and “Chelsea Morning.”
This is the version she recorded as an older woman…..You must listen to her first version recorded as a young woman in her twenties. The two versions show the way a young woman is just beginning to experience life. This version is an older more mature woman, reflecting back over her life experiences. The comparison is so amazing, just the fact of how her voice changed over the years.
I know there are two versions of this song but I prefer this one. It literally brings tears whenever I hear it. First heard it in a beautiful but heartbreaking movie called life as a house. Its worth a watch in your free time or if u start reacting to movies😊
You should watch her performing this as a younger woman before the cigarettes and age had taken their toll as her voice was so pure in younger years. Also Glenn Campbells version is very good.
Vocally, amazing and her tone is incredible, but I think I still prefer the original version because she shows more of a vocal range. Obviously, we're talking about recordings that are 3 or 4 decades apart, so everyone loses a step at some point and she's still awesome, but I still prefer the nuances in her voice in the original. Where this version works is in the fact that she sounds tired and weather-beaten. Like she's been through every last thing she's singing about more fully and she's almost too exhausted to sing the song. I'm glad both versions exist because they paint a bigger picture than the original song already did. Some artists are just good or great singers, but they don't add a lot of character to their vocals. Joni Mitchell, regardless of what version you're talking about, always makes you feel something with her tone beyond just her fantastic lyricism. Songs like these, especially in the folk music genre, should tell a story, and you can tell that story through lyrics and your vocal style, and she does both in both versions. She epitomized the late 60s and early 70s. And as it's been said about famous Canadians who either talk, sing or just work in America, you live in the trees, but I can see the whole forest.
Heyyy PancakeMarshmallowDude, every one of her many Albums from the late 60’s til now are chalk full of Masterpiece after Masterpiece. For You PMD i would suggest not playing the ones everyone is recommending and requesting , rather play her ( what we used to call ‘B’ side songs) to remind even her biggest fans that Joni sang more than 5 songs in her 80 years revolving around Our Sun . ☀️ 🌎🌍🌏 ☀️. Thanks 😊 Namestey Ji 🙏 ☮️&💟
You should definitely do more Joni. But don’t do stuff from the 2000s; do her prime period of the 70s. I suggest reviewing an entire album of hers, such as Court and Spark, which is her most acclaimed album of them all. Hejira would be another good choice
In future, perhaps you should do a 'Comparison Reaction' with the 'late-sixties' Joni Michell vs. 'early-2000' Joni Mitchell recordings. As Joni's voice matured, I believe the Lyrics become more poignant. Otherwise, Good Reaction!!!

Gowan! wow Any relation to Lawrence? Did you ever get to meet Joni?
The wisdom. And to think she was so young when she wrote it. One of the best written songs ever - and it’s not even her best written song.
This is the older Joni really understanding the lyrics after a life of experience.
Her 'advanced' aged voice is so beautiful and makes the song even more poignant. Check out her jazzy tunes. Joni delivers lyrics to match her amazing voice and music. Such a talent, as you hear.
'A Case of You' and 'Amelia' are special.
BTW she does the self portraits for her album covers.

A balm upon your soul
Love the reaction, your face, eyes and smile said it all without words....
Hauntingly beautiful.

Yeah, this version is not great, it's too plodding to follow the message.
Awesome performance. I like your heartfelt comments, without commenting. ...it's rare that people 'listen' to each other any more. Music like this still exists.
Thank you very much!

Amazing song, sheer poetry, always makes me cry without fail even on the unoteenth listen.
How did a young girl write such lyrics? Extraordinary! Utterly EXTRAORDINARY!
She said she got a lot of flack from people at the time for the song. Because people thought it was laughable that someone so young and presumably naive would write such a song, having not experienced much of life yet
Revisiting again. Cannot keep away. Greetings from the UK.
Try lesser known Two Grey Rooms, Cherokee Louise and The Last Time I saw Richard. All beautiful in different ways.
Really enjoying your channel. Thanks for getting to Joni. Brilliant artist. I like this second recording of her famous song.
Thank you!!
Lifelong Joni fan here. Favorite albums: Court and Spark, Hejira, Hissing of Summer Lawns, Blue, Wild Things Run Fast, Turbulent Indigo. She so great, I have to speak in terms of favorite ALBUMS not just favorite songs!
As you listen to more of Joni's music, you will probably be taken by some of the tracks on her Hejira album. What a fusion masterpiece!
Such a good surprise to see a Joni reaction today. I’ll second the recommendation for “A Case Of You” and also add “Free Man In Paris”, “You Turn Me On, I’m A Radio”, and “Chelsea Morning.”
Oh, Joni Mitchell's one of the great songwriters. A towering figure in music.
You should watch the Love Actually scene with Emma Thompson with this playing in the background.

I love this song... little extra treat... Billy Porter does a epic cover of this live.... just a raw gut retching emotional performance!
Joni wrote it when she was 23.
One of the most covered songs and so many great versions of it.
I love the original version done years earlier by her slightly better imo
This is one of the "biggest" songs I know - it just contains everything lyrically and musically. In fact I might even dare to call it a perfect song.
I know there are two versions of this song but I prefer this one. It literally brings tears whenever I hear it. First heard it in a beautiful but heartbreaking movie called life as a house. Its worth a watch in your free time or if u start reacting to movies😊
I recently listened to the original, and I also prefer this version 😊
Used to great effect in Love Actually.
Everything you said is oh so true but one thing… 23!!!!!!! You make me feel so old LOL
The song is haunting and emotional at the same time. This is a later revised version, but in many ways, I like this one better.
I'm more partial to Judy Collins' version, but I love Joni for writing it.
Beautiful , depressing and perfect
Have u reacted to disturbed version of sound of silence. It is stunning ❤❤

The original version is superb, but this one … seen through the lens of a woman who has lived …. is beautiful …. genius.
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you! Time for Duran Duran episode 5?
You should watch the recent live version with Brandi Carlile and Wynonna.
She painted the cover.
Wow. Didn’t know that. Thank you
Amazed this song is not in a disney movie or is it?

I’m more familiar with the original version, but this song is incredible either way.
Here's the original hit. Much better. ruclips.net/video/8L1UngfqojI/видео.html
Different, but better only when you want to receive it that way. Sometimes this version is more what I prefer to hear.
I really prefer the original version. I dislike the jazz treatment of this song.
Her voice has dropped some way since as she has aged. Prefer the original.
Such a contrast to those that pause every twenty seconds and over narrate, I've subscribed and liked as a result; keep up the good work....
Thank you!
