This is a musician's musician. She influenced scores of artists. Her unique tunings are a model for guitar players wanting to get out of the rut of standard. She is the girl from "Going to California", with flowers in her hair, that Robert Plant sang about.

This album just celebrated 50 years in 2021! David Crosby said she is a better songwriter than even Bob Dylan. One of my, (and a lot of other people's), favorite of hers is A Case of You, lyrically amazing, and that VOICE! She plays an Appalachian dulcimer on it, and when the guitar comes in after a bit it's being played by James Taylor, another great talent of those days! Thanks so much for another amazing reaction to an incredible artist and song!!

Joni's Blue album was voted the 4th greatest album ever recorded by Rolling Stone magazine. She came out of Canada and headed for the place that music was exploding and never looked back. She wrote the classic Woodstock, though she was not able to get to that epic gathering because she was booked on the Dick Cavett show in New York that same day. She performs that song on the Cavett show while the festival was just beginning. She became one of the greatest stars in that age of Rock and Roll, romantically involved with all four of the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young singers over time and wrote and performed music until she was old and gray, which is now. Joni was something special and still is though she now resides in her native Canada once more and keeps a home in Hollywood just to go there and see what award she must accept now. Along with Miles Davis and Eartha Kitt, she is the one that I still listen to in my car, in my parlour and in my head as I head toward 77.

The belle of the Saskatchewan plains. Best living songwriter, imho. This is probably the best written album ever. It is consistently listed in the top 3 of all time greatest albums and mentioned as 1 of the most inspiring/inspirational among other top tier recording artists. The whole album is a masterpiece where she lays her heart bare for the world. I recommend "A Case of You" off this platter, or "Raised on Robbery" (with fellow Canuck Robbie Robertson on guitar) for a more up-tempo, fun tune. Her work with Charles Mingus, late in his career, is also outstanding. And yes, it is her playing the piano. She is also a very influential guitarist (her use of alternate tunings), and plays the dulcimer, as well.

I believe some of the songs on Blue were influenced by her breakup from Graham Nash and her romance at that time with James Taylor (he plays guitar on some of the songs on the album). So you guys would probably appreciate the lyrics from a couple of her later albums, Turbulent Indigo and Taming the Tiger. Both are just crammed full of songs that are unflinchingly a commentary on humanity and the human trutha we all experience. MAGDALENE Laundries, Crazy Cries of Love, Sex Kills, and more. In these days we are living in, I find myself thinking of her song Borderline. Her voice had deepened and matured by these albums but I love her voice then as much as do the clear high soprano of her youth. The rasp and age lends a certain gravitas.

This one (or any of her other 70s albums) is worth a whole album review. I've noticed along with Steely Dan, that she's become gradually hipper and hipper over the last couple of years. It's long overdue for both of them.

The album is a masterpiece. I think it's number 3 on the latest Rolling Stone top 500 list. Check out A Case of You next. She's up there with Dylan, Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Paul Simon et al as a song writer. And what a voice. Sublime.

Here's another suggestion for another one of her songs, if interested. "Joni Mitchell - Help Me (Live in London 1974) HQ" (by the channel: Lagaletteinfernale) [Here's the link] 👉ruclips.net/video/UTT54TEbolE/видео.html --This song "Help Me" was on the Billboard charts in 1974 for 19 weeks reaching #1 on the Adult Contemporary Charts and hit #7 on the Hot 100.

It is her on piano. This is a song to her daughter that she gave up to adoption as a baby.

I'd never heard that about _Blue_ . I did know _Little Green_ was, though, and she makes reference to the child she gave up in _Chinese Café/Unchained Melody_ .

Enjoyable reaction as usual. I was gonna call back the other "Full Circle" moment (Janet Jackson) from Joni you gents had, with the "Big Yellow Taxi," but you beat me to it! Major influence on so many, and I'm sure even more than my casual fan-bein' butt knows. I do know there's damn good reason Robert Plant basically wrote and performed the lyrics for "Going to California" with her in mind. Jimmy Page also crushed hard on her, but she resisted their god-tier charms, lol! (Which is maybe yet another reason they crushed so hard on her!)

My suggestion is to play every song of this album (also called Blue) and Court and Spark. As for live recordings, Woodstock from a 1970 BBC concert and California from her in-studio performance from 1970. and from the 1976 Last Waltz concert with the Band, Coyote.

You got three things to do guys. 1) React to the rest of this album, 2) watch her BBC TV show from 1970 (?) and 3) react to her "Court And Spark" album
I'm a soul and blues fan, my son is a metal fan but we both agree that Joni is the business 💯
