To be fair this is indeed a very expensive product to manufacture from what I've read, the optics alone are really expensive and more or less unique to the market.

They need to implement the feature when multiple headsets connect to a " main " one and all of them see the same thing shared by THAT main one. I imagine could be used in multiple things like medically or military, schools etc.
Meta Quest Pro Can already do this… Called Meta Horizons work spaces.
SharePlay exists for existing Apple products :) So no doubt this feature will be supported!

They really missed an opportunity to have a large internal screen. Just two small eye holes is not gonna be as immersive as they showed. It should be like looking through ski goggles with a screen that wrappes around your eyes peripheral view.

It's not a VR, they've just sandwiched an AMOLED layer in the glass.
It's no different than those transparent TVs except that this VR can strech the image, nothing special.

You guys have no idea the amount of tech involved even including LiDAR sensors in self driving cars on a miniature scale 8k OLED 2 chips custom circuit boards, expensive design, years of cutting edge software development and more. Also realize that just because they release a product doesn’t mean it is targeted for you (the average consumer) and rather the high end consumer and workplace market.

it lacks a top strap from this video, its compressing your head into itself, It wont be comfortable like a Valve Index or Quest

You will definitely get used to it. It may be a minor inconvenience at the start, but you’ll get used to it. The problem with Apples Headset though, is the disappearance of a top strap. Hopefully it’s not a big bad change, and still feels comfortable
They are all uncomfortable for longer periods. I could only wear the index for a few hours before I had to take a break. Biggest waste of money of all time, tbh.

2023 is really surprising me now that Amazons AMZT30 hit the road. That's great, it's an augmented reality headset. The main issue I see is the massive tether running from the back of the device. In every situation the user is sitting, so it's not really replacing the phone, but more the tv or computer, but running as a mobile OS. Not sure it's ready for primetime (come back when you have the contact lens version).
I bet if they make a conact lens version, people are going to have bug-like eyes 😭
They showed them walking around, there is a tether but it goes to something in the user’s pocket
There is a tether, but that's because you have a mobile battery pack connecting to the headset, while still being able to move around. In the 9 minute presentation, you can see people having it in their pocket and moving around freely.
It’s not designed to replace the phone. For instance, there was no mention of AR maps. It’s a new thing.
This was underwhelming. Other companies have been making these for several years. Meta (i.e., Facebook) has a very good set -- and they are much less expensive. Microsoft has some of the best. There is no way that I am going to wear some ski goggles out in public. Apart from an occasional game, I don't really want to wear them at home either.

Apple has innovated in several areas here. The focus on AR, providing a pass-through experience that's going to be the best in the industry is quite an accomplishment.
The 5k per eye is also huge.
They're going to have a hard time selling this to enterprise, though I would consider using this for development work if it could enhance my workflow.
The spatial video and photos are an awesome feature.
But they're going to need to drop the price by at least 2,000.00.
As you note, there is a lot of competition. But they're going to have a hard time beating Apple on features. They'll just be the runner ups at a much cheaper price points.
I wish the M2 had stronger GPU, but this was never intended to compete with desktop PCVR.
Maybe in a decade they'll have a chip that can take nVidia on.
@@jklappenbach - Yes, I have used the Microsoft HoloLens. I'm not saying that the Apple Vision Pro isn't an improvement. However, that is ALL that it truly is -- an improved rendition of existing tech. I'm not sure that Apple has actually "innovated" on any areas. They've simply taken already-existing tech and spent a lot of money to improve it. However, they are charging a premium for that improvement. Microsoft's HoloLens is 1.0 technology for this; and, I would love to see what their 2.0 generation would look like. Meta has the potential to bust into this sector and undercut Apple's premium price tag too.
I do think that Apple stepping into this sector will make it more viable for others to jump in as well. Hopefully, this will drive down costs.

Enormous 4K TVs are available for like $600. The only item I have ever spent more than $3500 on is my car. This is far out of reach for 95% of people, including people who are normally happy to splurge on the Apple brand.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure how this is an improvement over what I can do right now in the Quest 2. Although it doesn't have color passthrough AR, everything else shown here I can do right now with my $300 device.

@@lesleyhaan116 I'm mainly referring to using the device for work, as shown in this sample vid. I can use my regular mouse and keyboard to do work on the Quest 2, I don't have to use the controllers.
The Quest 2 also has hand gesturing for control. The only thing I see of appeal here is the better screens, but will the resolution be better than the upcoming Quest 3?

I’m a big Apple fan and I wear glasses How does it compensate for users who wears glasses? Can you put the vision pro over eyeglass frames?
The lens system has to replace your glasses, which is most likely not a problem, unless you have astigmatism... I am not sure they can compensate for that. In that case it's probably contacts for you, unless they have a solution to fit a custom prescription lens into the goggles that you will have to order from them.
They jumped the gun on this one. Imagine this amazing tech in the form of everyday glasses, or shades (which I'm guessing is the goal).
They really brought The Oasis to the real life😅

Okay, hear me out, the price is not crazy. It literally has like 10 cameras/sensors, built in headphones, two 4k displays, and a frigging computer chip on the inside. Its also gen 1 and a completely new product category. so its definetely not for everyone, but the price is understandable IMO.

This is something you will use a few times until the novelty wears off. The price point will prevent mass adoption, but that is even not it's worst feature
This is more of a long term play. 10 years from now the device will look completely different and will likely just be a pair of glasses than a full headset. But they are getting started now to evolve the software.
This looks worse than Google Glass did 10+ years ago but I do think they will evolve the design and use cases. It looks like it currently has to be tethered via wire but having a small, sleek device that you could easily wear around was tethered to a future iPhone, for example, would be ideal. That’s probably what they are working towards with this.

So when ur on a video call u see everyone without the glasses how do they see you ? Cause it would be a really weird close up view like a selfie of your nose type of thing. Or how is that supposed to work ?
They see a digital persona of you. Basically your face is scanned with the headset and then when you make a FaceTime call it will use the digital version of you by tracking your eyes mouth and all your facial movement. Pretty much a realistic avatar of you. That’s what they’ll see
I hope they don't pull a hololens where you get a stamp and everything outside of that stamp the AR stuff doesn't work

Wow! I honestly thought it’d be closer to 8k. It’s expensive, but for what it does I would say it’s a fair price. I’d buy it! I know since it’s Apple, they have perfected it and will continue to make it even better as they release newer models. All the other companies will copy it and make it better and a little cheaper (that's what I'll wait for..an andriod version). There's also a reason for this release....apple probably knows about a powerful Ai software that will make use of this tech. Metaverse will also sneak it's way in there too and finally make its move.
